George asks…

why do we have recycle symbols when recycling is so low on our priorities?

seriously everything ends up in the landfill when landfills should be empty like a desert

The Expert answers:

Not everyone’s priorities. The symbols are there so those of us who care can take advantage of them. It’s like you going to school. If you want a good education, you can get it. If it’s as low on your priorities as recycling is, practice saying, “Would you like fries with that?”

Donna asks…

Why are the recycling symbols so small and hard to read on bottles?

The Expert answers:

I worked in plastic molding factory’s for a few years . Well it’s not a big issue to most people to see the symbol but the molds are small the same size as the bottle or object and it cost like $150,000 dollars to make a mold the more detail in the metal mold the more money it costs.

Laura asks…

Can i recycle a container that is marked Recycle symbol 6 ps?

if i can help the earth by a little bit itd be great 😉
thanks

The Expert answers:

You’ll have to check with your local recycling center. Where I live we can only do #1 & #2 plastic.

Susan asks…

What does the recycle symbol with a tick in the center mean? This symbol in on the base of my electric kettle?

The Expert answers:

Just means that its recyclable.

I assume the base of the kettle is plastic? Also the metal inside would be able to be recycled.

Joseph asks…

Can anybody tell me where I can get the recycle symbol to use in a document?

The Expert answers:

Here take a look at these

William asks…

Where do i buy the blue recycling bin from?

I am looking for the blue recycling bin, the typical blue kind with the symbol on the front, i want a narrow kind, for the house. i would prefer to buy it at a store instead of online, but if its cheaper online i dont mind buying it from there as well. 🙂
thanks!

The Expert answers:

Home Depot carries various recycling bins in different sizes.

Richard asks…

What does the recycle symbol with a tick in the center mean. Many thanks?

The Expert answers:

It is most likely either a number 7 designating the type of plastic or a marketing tool indicating the material is recycleable.

Paul asks…

What number plastic is a container with multiple numbered recycling symbols on it?

I have a yellow Tidy Cats Scoop for multiple cats 35 lb tub that I’d like to recycle… but it has multiple numbers on it! It has a number 5 (PP) in the triangular recycling symbol, then it has an arrow pointing downwards to another triangular recycling symbol with the number 2 (HDPE) in it. Then on the other side of the bottom, it has a clock-looking symbol numbered 0-9 with an arrow inside pointing to the number 0. It has another clock-looking symbol numbered 1-12 right below it with an arrow inside pointing to the number 11. Can someone please explain to me what number plastic this is and what the heck these symbols mean? I was thinking perhaps since the container has a handle with a grip and they’re too small to put numbers on, they decided to put the numbers on the bottom instead. The lid was a #5. There are three separate places that I go to in order to recycle different plastics, so I have to have them separated by number.

The Expert answers:

I find them useful for storage, The handle is likely polypropylene, and the lid and main portion are likely to be HDPE.

HDPE has a slight oily feel to it.

The other info there is just specifics on the plant that made the items, the day the time, etc. Just quality control noise that leaks through sometimes.

Mandy asks…

what are names of recycling companies with websites?

I need to know the name of a site I used to write a paper a long time ago, the site talked about recycling paper – breaking down the fibers-, recycling car tires into new tires and rubber powder used in sidewalks and artificial sports pitches. I don’t know the name of the website but it had a symbol of a sphere shaped like the earth with latitude and longitude lines marked on it. i need help as soon as possible.

The Expert answers:

There are tons of recycling companies with with websites. It would help if you said what area you are in.
