Michael asks…

I deleted my recycling bin! 😐 …?

Ok so I had a real blond moment, I meant to delete what was inside of my recycling bin..but I somehow managed to delete the entire recycling bin, like icon and all….how did I do that and how can I get it back?

The Expert answers:

Yea, you have a windows vista right? You most likely right clicked on it and selected DELETE instead of remove contents(or something similiar).

To get your recycle bin back, right click on any blank space on your desktop, and click personalize. On this new menu to the left hand side there should be writing that says Change Desktop Icons. Click it. Now check recycle bin. Click ok and you should have your recycle bin back. Hope I helped. =]

Linda asks…

does anyone know how to retrieve the original recycle bin on the desktop?

i accidentally deleted my recycle bin on my desktop…i was able to drag an instance of it from the start menu onto the desktop but now it’s just a short cut and it is no longer auto-animated…does anyone know if there is a way to get the original animated shortcut back..and by animated i mean full basket on desktop when the recycle bin is full and empty basket on desktop when the recycle bin is empty?. Your help would be greatly appreciated…
oh btw…i know i am not the first person to ask this question on yahoo answers but there isn’t an answer for Vista users…so please only answer the question if you know how to do it in Vista…thank you again for your help.

The Expert answers:

The Recycle Bin usually appears on the desktop. If you prefer, you can hide it.

To show or hide the Recycle Bin on the desktop
Click to open Personalization.

In the left pane, click Change desktop icons, and then do one of the following:

To remove the Recycle Bin from the desktop, clear the Recycle Bin check box.

To display the Recycle Bin on the desktop, select the Recycle Bin check box.

Click OK.

George asks…

deleted recycle bin!?

i just deleted my recycle bin from my desktop and don’t know where to find it. please help. i have windows vista if that helps any. thank you

The Expert answers:

Start, search, type recycle bin, & drag it to ur desktop!!(^_^)

David asks…

where is my recycle bin ?

i sent something to the recycle bin and then i pressed ok before i read what the message tell me , then i could not find the recycle bin any more . how can i restore it ?

The Expert answers:

You mean it vanished right after you sent stuff to it? What OS is it Vista or XP? Did you drag the file to recycle bin or did you delete the file from where it is. There are so many questions to figure out what happen but depending how you handled the file is one. The best easiest thing I think is to do a system restore to the day before or even maybe the hour before you deleted the file. It will not bring the file back but it will bring recycle bin back. Oh doing a sys restore is easy google it** see below.

Or try this but only if you are using VISTA the XP fix is for experts.

**SYSTEM RESTORE
Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. System Restore starts.
On the Welcome to System Restore page, click Restore my computer to an earlier time (if it is not already selected), and then click Next.
On the Select a Restore Point page, click the most recent system restore point in the On this list, click a restore point list, and then click Next.

Lisa asks…

how to open recycle bin?

I’m wanting to open my recycle bin to clear a program,so I can delete the temporary internet files

The Expert answers:

Um… The recycle bin has nothing to do with your temporary internet files and to open it you merely double click the recycle bin icon. To delete your temporary internet files you click tools, then click delete browsing history, and finally you click delete files which will be next to “temporary internet files”.

Susan asks…

Windows Recycle Bin!?

I deleted my recycling bin from my desktop accidentaly and now I am unable to locate it within my computer. Where can I locate it?

The Expert answers:

For Vista (and maybe W7):

1.Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize.
2.Click the Change Desktop Icons entry in the left pane.
3.Check the Recycle Bin checkbox.
4.Click OK.

That should do it for Vista. With Windows XP:

There may be a more direct way, but here’s the only one I know of:

1.Download and install a freebie from Microsoft called TweakUI (see below for the URL). Install it on the desktop. It happens to be a nice tool, by the way.
2.Run it.
3.Click the Desktop entry on the left.
4.On the right, a series of check boxes for desktop icons should appear. The Recycle Bin should be one of them. Click it.
5.Click OK.

That should do it for XP.

Hope that helps.

Ken asks…

Recycling Bin!?

I accidently erased the recycling bin icon off the computer, Can I somehow get it back and how can I?Thanks for any
help on the matter.

The Expert answers:

You can’t delete it….. You can hide it though….

If it is not on the desktop…. IN XP,

right-click on the desktop and select properties…

Click on the desktop tab and hit hte customize button at the bottom… Check the box for hte Recycle Bin and it willl appear….

Mandy asks…

recycling bin?

items deleted in recycling bin
can you get them back?
or are they deleted for ever

The Expert answers:

It is possible to recover files with file recovery software. I reccommend Recuva (pronounced “recover”), it is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses!

Maria asks…

how to recycle waste paper?

in market their is lot of used waste paper. what are the products that can be made from this paper.

The Expert answers:

Waste paper recycling is the process of converting waste papers into various useful forms. We know already paper is made from the pulp of trees. For the making of paper large amount of tress are destroyed as well as huge amount of water is required. So to conserve nature we must reduce wasting of papers and reuse it. After collection the waste papers are sorted according to its quality and type. The waste papers are soaked in water separately to attain the pulp state. Then chemicals are added to remove the ink on the paper to avoid the dull colors. The pulp is then flushed to make it free from ink. After this process raw material are added and pulps are pressed into sheets. Sheets are then dried up and send for secondary uses. Recycling of paper reduces deforestation. It saves our green environment and makes the earth a heavenly place to live.

Lisa asks…

Recycle Sea Water?

Tell me this, the ice bergs are melting and the sea level is rising yet in the UK we have hose pipe bans because there is not enough water. Waste water gets cleand and recycled so we can drink and wash with it, why can we not do the same with the sea? there is so much of it and it would solve so many problems. If they can clean and purify other water why not the sea?

What are your views?
I appreciate there is marine life in the sea and i’m not suggesting we use it all as the mammals need to survive. But that there be a limit to the amount used,

The Expert answers:

Every ship uses desalination for there drinking and shower water. It is simply salt water boiled and the steam separated then cooled from evaporation into fresh water and treated with the normal chemicals used in every day water consumption. It’s acutually cheap to do and produce. You can do it at home. I was a boilerman and a water tester in the Navy for six years. But just try to get the Government to do something cheap for the people and not receive a lot of revinue from it and you got world war three started.

Donna asks…

Should recycling be mandatory?

by this i mean should communities make everyone pay for recycling services?
and possibly reject your trash if it looks like too much recyclable material is in there?
Do you think this kind of program would be helpful or harmful?
btw, I am trying to get views from both sides for this question- i have to write a paper on it. Thanks for your help!

The Expert answers:

Recycling has to be done, but the problem is that in many communities, WASTE is subsidized, that means it is paid for with hidden taxes.

People should pay for the hauling and disposal of the amount of trash they generate, just as you pay for water and electricity. Wouldn’t it drive you crazy seeing your neighbor changing the water in the pool every other day while everybody is paying the same amount of money for water? In the same token, if someone dumps more, that someone should pay accordingly, because actual resources like trucks, gas, and land space are being spent on taking garbage away from a home.

As I see it, the problem is that garbage is being hidden from people literally and in terms of cost, so there is a negligence in the liberal consumption of disposables and poor waste management. We have huge bins where I live, yet some people dump water bottles with water still inside, and cardboard boxes that have not even been flattened, because they are too lazy to put them in the recycling bin or make a minimal effort to produce less waste.

People like that are pigs and I would not trust they wipe their rear ends when they go to the restroom. The only way these pigs will take notice of their stench is by charging them for what they waste.

Should they be forced? That is not the problem because they are not intellectually capable of understanding reasons. Let them waste but have them pay. I don’t want my money to go subsidize lazyness, ignorance and filth.

Charles asks…

How Is it Possible to Waste Water?

I’ve heard countless times not to waste water. But doesn’t all the water just go back into the sky in the end? I mean, it’s water. Water goes down the drain and into the river again right? How are you wasting water?

I’m a very Green Girl but I don’t understand how it’s possible to waste water. Help?

Thanx!

The Expert answers:

We have a very small percentage of water on the earth that is suitable for drinking water and the amount is getting smaller. When I think about wasting water, I think about wasting drinking water. The water that goes down your drain can not be consumed by humans until it goes through the natural recycling system, meaning either being absorbed into ground water or evaporated and coming back as precipitation. In many areas, like where I live nature can’t replenish it fast enough, so we are suffering from another drought. We don’t have enough water in the lakes, rivers and underground water supplies to provide all the water for all the people in our area. We have to conserve. That means using less when possible, turning off the water while brushing teeth, or spending less time in the shower, removing lawn or watering less. It is so bad in CA that farmers are being told they will be allotted 25% less water next year which means 25% less food, that will result in higher food costs across the nation.

You may not think this applies to you where you live, but the problem is spreading and getting worse in many areas. This nation has no more water than it did when the first Europeans arrived, In fact is has less fresh water, but we are continuing to grow our population. More homes, more people all mean our water supply has to do more. Many scientist say we will be fighting over fresh water instead of oil or food in the future.

William asks…

can youhelp me write an essay on recycling… in 550 words?

recycle,,,,,

The Expert answers:

Today, recycling, maintaining our sustainability and taking care of our environment is a big thing. While the best method is to reuse our wastes, this often cannot be done. Therefore, the only way to go seems to be to recycle, to use the same materials to make that same product again and again. While this seems to be a great idea, it is not always the case.

I usually carry a water bottle in my bag. I drink bottled water not because I believe it is safer or cleaner than tap water; but rather merely out of convenience. It allows me to have quick access to water when I’m not near a bubbler or a fast-food restaurant. I also refill my water bottle whenever possible. This is reusing waste products, and therefore the best way to sustain our environment. However, water bottles break. When it is broken, I throw it in the rubbish bins provided, NOT the recycling bin. Why?

I think that recycling is somewhat a pointless exercise. It is not totally useless though. I recycle aluminium cans and such. The reason why I recycle aluminium cans and not plastics bottles will be discussed later.

In the New York Times, John Tierney wrote an article called “Recycling is Garbage”. In that article, he declared that “Recycling may be the most wasteful activity in modern America: a waste of time and money, a waste of human and natural resources”. In the article, he points out many things. For instance, packaging saves resources, reducing food spoilage. Fast-food meals generate less trash per person than home-cooked meals. Also, the cheapest way to dispose of garbage is in a landfill.

Recycling, however, costs a lot of money. The time, effort and money spent on picking materials and sorting them out costs more than it would cost to dump it in landfill. Then it would have to be re-processed. Tierney figures that the value of the labour of recycling to be literally hundreds of dollars per ton more.

People might say that landfills are taking too much space. However, it is a common myth. A. Clark Wiseman of Spokane’s Gonzaga University figures that, at the current rate, Americans could put all of the trash generated over the next 1,000 years into a landfill 91 m high and 56 km square or dig a similar-size hole and plant grass on top after it was filled. America has an area of 9,631,418 square km. I doubt they will have trouble finding an area to dump their rubbish. Some people might be worried that this landfill is hazardous and potentially lethal to the environment. An easy solution to this is to shoot off the rubbish into space. All we need to do is provide that much space for rubbish and shoot it off to space once every a thousand years.

People also say that we are going to run out of resources in the near future, they are wrong. Resources on earth are not scarce at all. WorldWatch, a group which has constantly predicted the near future when humans will run out of resources, now acknowledges: “The question of scarcity may never been the most important one”.

People think that recycling paper saves trees. This is wrong. Paper is made from trees which are specifically grown to be chopped down to be turned into paper. It has the same concept as a chicken farm. Australians eat 1 billion chickens every year. And yet, chicken is not an endangered species. This is because we farm chicken. If we are to hunt chickens from the woods and still eat the same amount of chicken, chicken will be extinct in a matter of hours. The same goes for trees. We ‘farm’ trees the same way we farm chickens. Recycling paper doesn’t save trees. As a matter of fact, recycling paper does more harm to the environment than to just make paper freshly from trees. The process of transporting used paper, sorting different types of paper and many other processes involved in recycling paper produces a lot more pollution than just chopping down trees and turning them into paper. The only real way to reduce paper consumption is to read the content of the paper over and over again. A fully-grown oak tree soaks in about 380 L of water a day. That is a lot of water. However, this oak tree does not only consume water, it also eats greenhouse gases and helps purify the air. On the contrary, if everybody stops using paper all of a sudden, we will eventually destroy those trees and use the area for something else. So in fact, throwing away paper saves trees. More paper demand means more trees will be planted and therefore cleaner air.

People also think that we are running out of water. But truthfully, water does not run out. Where would water go? We don’t shoot water off to space. The water that we use is contained inside earth’s gravitational pull. In fact, we have more water than the dinosaurs, since the icecaps are melting. The dinosaurs lived for 115 million years and they didn’t die out because they run out of water. Humans have only been around for 2 mill

Daniel asks…

Does taking an hour shower waste water? Does the water recycle itself thru companies?

Does taking an hour shower waste water? Does the water recycle itself and get cleaned and then sent thru showers again?

I hate my roommate who takes 2 showers a day for an hour each and doesn’t go anywhere. What can I do about it? He says that the water is being recycled with chloride so it doesn’t matter anyway.

I disagree, but what’s the truth? Is there any articles or proof out there?

Thanks for your thoughts

The Expert answers:

Chloride has literally nothing to do with water. Your water comes from the water table (probably) and if the shower runs for an hour at lets say 5gpm thats 50 gallons per ten minutes which is a lot. The spent water is an effluent elsewhere and will not replenish the water table, he is adversely affecting the local economy and environment in a larger way than he would think.

James asks…

how to recycle water?

The Expert answers:

Waste water i assume? Its called a water reclaim system. It’s usually used in car washes and involves treating the water with ozone and passing it through a series of screens and strainers. I wouldn’t drink it though. The only other way is to run it through a waste water treatment plant, and then a water treatment plant for drinking. You could also just distill it.

Chris asks…

water cycle method of water conservation?

The Expert answers:

Industries can recycle their process water or retreat their waste water so that it is easier to purify for drinking water and other purposes. Communities can educate residents about local water resources and work together to implement land use strategies that will protect and sustain water supplies into the future. They can develop plans to handle water shortages without waiting for a water emergency and can help residents dispose of harmful products properly by offering hazardous waste collection days. By behaving responsibly in our use of water.

Jenny asks…

recycled water?

if people eat pork and it goes into sewage after there bodies have finished with it,
the sewage gets recycled into drinking water
is it then ok for persons of a religion that does not consume pork to drink recycled waste water
as the water is not pure
and is it not halal

The Expert answers:

If a stream runs through a pig-farm in Nebraska, then empties into a small lake where it is vaporized into a cloud that eventually flies over Iran and drops as rain into an Iranian water reservoir,…should the Iranians die of thirst rather than drink that water??

If your answer is “Yes!”, Why don’t we have our government subsidize pig-farms along all the streams in Nebraska?

Thomas asks…

How does your recycling eventually get separated?

When I put my recycling out every 2 weeks, we can put all of the different types of recycling together. But how does the paper get separated from the plastics and glass? Does someone manually do it, or is there a machine?

The Expert answers:

Your rubbish go to what is called (MRF) this stands for material recycling facility. At these site some of the recycling is done by hand and by machine.

Check your local countcil web site?

Lisa asks…

What are major benefits of curbside recycling?

I am writing a persuasive essay on why our community should keep our curbside recycling program.

Please list your sources. Thanks.

The Expert answers:

Convenience – No need to haul stuff off to some distant recycling center results in more people actually recycling.

Conservation – The amount of stuff going into landfills is reduced and the recycled materials result in less “new” stuff being mined/harvested/manufactured.

James asks…

Has there ever been a study on the carbon footprint caused by the so-called green recycling industry?

Recycling is supposed to be the green, environmentally friendly option, but is it really?

Huge fume belching and gas guzzling lorries are used to transport your recycling material from your door to the recycling place.
Hundreds of cars drive every week to their recycling centre, usually with only one person in the car and a box of only half a dozen wine bottles and a few newspapers.
The waste processing plants have lots of heavy machinery which all requires greedy amounts of power.
Some recycling procedures, such as glass and plastic require huge amounts of heat to melt the materials before they can be re-moulded.

All of these things consume vast amounts of our planets natural resources.
But do they consume more or less than they save?
Has there ever been an official study into this?
Kelly L
Firstly, Don’t brand me as an anti-environmentalist. I am simply asking a question to poll peoples opinions. It’s not as if I am not burning down woodlands and pouring bleach into rivers.
Secondly, Don’t assume I am American. I posted this in Yahoo UK & Ireland Answers.

The Expert answers:

I believe it’s long been known that the energy used in cleaning the printing off paper so that it can be recycled far outweighs the energy involved in making new paper. But recycling paper does save a lot of trees. There’s always some trade off.

Helen asks…

Tyre Recycling?

How does tyre recycling work?
Such as recycle to what kind of products, the recycling process……
I want any information about tyre recycling!
tire and tyre are the same things!

Tires or tyres (see American and British English spelling differences)

The Expert answers:

Tires are recycled typically in several ways. After tires are delivered to the recycler, they have the bead removed. This is a tough wire along the inside surface next to where the tire is mounted on the rim. It’s mechanically cut or pulled out. The tire is then fed into a device that cuts it into large chips. The steel belts are removed (though not easily recycled due to the amount of rubber stuck to them) followed by removal of the nylon cords that are also part of the construction of the tire. The remaining rubber is then ground into smaller pieces. Where the two methods differ is that in one method, this is done at room temperature while in the second method, the tires are cooled in liquid nitrogen and cryogenically ground into various sizes from several millimeters in diameter down to a size similar to talcum powder. Larger sizes are often used as-is for ground cover (mulch) or subsurface fill. In the latter case, a layer of tire crumb beneath the topsoil and grass of a park allows the water to percolate quickly from the surface and reduce puddling after rain. Outdoor amphitheaters often use this material. Other sizes can be blended with fresh rubber (non-vulcanized) and fashioned into new products. Things like door mats, floor covering, inexpensive rubber goods can be made in this way and the tire is merely a compatible filler. Several years ago, a trio of companies (ATR, Praxair and Sti-K in Canada) explored methods of revulcanizing recycled tire material. There were some Russian and Malaysian patents on this topic. By careful blending of raw isoprene with finely ground tire crumb along with some other ingredients, and subjecting it to severe shear forces, the rubber from the tires and the fresh isoprene can be combined in a manner that allows it to be revulcanized into more sophisticated rubber goods. To my knowledge, this process has not been commercialized in a large scale but holds the prospect of being able to convert large amounts of tire material into useful products. One use of cryogenically ground tire has been banned in some locations – the use of the material as road or highway fill. Because small amounts of metal may remain in the tire crumb, it is prone to catch fire if compressed in large quantities and in contact with moisture and oxygen. One spectacular case of road-bed fire was reported in the western US several years ago. The only other use of tire material in large quantities is energy recovery where tire material is burned to produce electricity in much the same way coal is burned. Because of sulfur content, this is not a clean process and special care must be taken to prevent excessive air pollution when using tire material in this manner. Another product developed in the late 1990’s was a high-impact composite of recycled tire crumb and resin to produce a tough, chemical and fire resistant – essentially bullet-proof plastic. This formula has been placed into the public domain by NIRIS, Inc. To promote the recycling of tire material into useful products. (It free to use without payment of licensing fees as long as NIRIS is credited with the discovery of the formulation.)

Daniel asks…

What metals are recycled?

What metals are most commonly recycled. Just gimme a big ass list 😛

The Expert answers:

Most commonly recycled metals include iron (and steel), aluminum, copper, lead, silver, gold, zinc, nickel, manganese, titanium, and mercury.

The most commonly recycled metals from household recycling efforts are steel food cans and aluminum beverage cans.

Scrap metal recyclers process primarily scrap iron, steel, aluminum, copper, and lead. Other recyclers specialize in higher-value metals like silver, gold, and mercury. Smaller amounts of metals are recovered as part of the purification process in primary metals recycling.

Nancy asks…

recycling is good or bad?

my family recycles a lot but sometimes i wonder if we are recycling things that shouldn’t be recycled cans that still have remnants of food in them, or milk jugs that still have some milk left in them. Is this bad

The Expert answers:

Recycling is very good but you should take measures to clean up the things you do recycle. My local waste management here has a rule about that. You can’t recycle things that had raw meat in them, or food remnants of any kind. It draws rats and insects to the recycling plant. So try to rinse out the milk jugs and cans. It only takes a few seconds and is worth it.

Charles asks…

the aeroplanes can be recycled?

yes it can be recycled

The Expert answers:

Airplanes are recycled. After an aircraft is removed from service, all parts that can be used for other aircraft are removed, some of them overhauled and installed in other aircraft. The metals are also recycled (aluminium, steel, titanium). Of course not all parts and materials are recycled but a great portion is. Crashed aircraft, depending on the extension of the damage, have only metals recycled and after the crash investigation is over.

Mandy asks…

causes,effects&solutions of recycling?

speech on causes, effects and solutions of recycling.

The Expert answers:

I think recycling has no causes, since there are no causes we don’t need solutions. Yes recycling has effects. It is beneficial for natural resources, environment, humans and it saves energy as well as water. If you want to know why recycle has no causes just prefer some recycling stores. You may check out the following online store:

Linda asks…

Why is recycling so important?

It is hard for me to recycle because I don’t have a car to get to the recycling place.

The Expert answers:

Recycling is very important
1. Our earth is running out of resources. (ex. Trees are being cut down for products, recycle paper to be made into more paper and less are cut down. More trees means more oxygen, more oxygen means cleaner air)
2. Our earth is running out of places to put this trash.
Open air dumps have been banned and landfills take away space for essential buildings so they cut down trees and build building there.
Recycling however also requires a lot of energy to do, but in the long run its worth it.

Summer job involving physical fitness?

Im a college student looking for a summer job. I’m into working out and I’d like to do something that involves physical labor. I had landscaping work in mind. I was wondering what other types of jobs I could do in order to improve my level of fitness and stay active?

The Expert answers:

Newspaper boy, Sweat shops and factories, Recycling, Mcdonalds (Do it in daytime. No other fast food restaurant get you running around like this place does),

David asks…

Is it ok to recycle bottles containing liquid?

A while ago I started recycling my bottles and cans, and I was wondering, is it ok to throw bottles containing water for instance in the recycle trash? and what would probably happen if I accidentally threw some waste in the recycle trash, are there people responsible to make sure it’s all just recyclable things, or do they just throw it all along with the waste?

One last question: are fast-food restaurants cups recyclable too? like McDonald’s cups for instance.

The Expert answers:

I think it has something more to do with common courtesy. How can you recycle left over water from a plastic bottle? Why would you put waste in the recycle bin when it isn’t recyclable? Why would you give the people already doing this job a harder time?

Most places don’t take recyclable bottles when there’s liquid inside, you have to empty the bottle then you can get a refund on it.

I don’t know if those places recycle their cups. Check their waste bins, if you see the recycle sign, then you’ll know. I think those cups are recycled material though.

Sandy asks…

two examples of how conservation and recycling can extend the life of our natural resources?

if possible a sentence for each

The Expert answers:

Here’s a clue from the U.S. Dpartment Of Agriculture’s Natural Resource Conservation Service:

“NRCS’s natural resources conservation programs help people reduce soil erosion, enhance water supplies, improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat, and reduce damages caused by floods and other natural disasters. Public benefits include enhanced natural resources that help sustain agricultural productivity and environmental quality while supporting continued economic development, recreation, and scenic beauty.” [from: http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/main/national/programs ]

or from the entry for “conservation of natural resources” in the 1968 Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences at http://www.encyclopedia.com/topic/conservation_of_natural_resources.aspx :

“In the 1950s conservation was linked to plans and programs to insure the adequacy of raw materials to meet the needs of the free world. The report of the President’s Materials Policy Commission, which articulated this approach, was concerned with how to “avert or overcome materials shortages which threaten the long-run economic growth and security of the United States and other free nations” (U.S. President’s Materials … 1952, vol. 1, p. 2). The public policies recommended by the Materials Commission were radically different in kind from those that had been associated with conservation in earlier years, among them policies for influencing the rates of technological development in American industry and for guaranteeing private American investments for the processing of materials in foreign countries.”

As for recycling’s extending the life of natural resources, try looking at statements like:

“The Benefits of Recycling
Recycling has numerous environmental and economic advantages. Recycling:
Creates more jobs than the landfilling industry.
Saves energy and reduces pollution by reducing the need to extract and transport virgin resources.
Allows for reuse of materials and finite resources thereby conserving resources for future generations.”

from the Colorado Association for Recycling’s webpage at: http://www.cafr.org/resources/recycling101.php ,

or statements such as:

“Recycling conserves natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals. Recycling helps sustain the environment for future generations.” from the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s webpage at: http://www.epa.gov/osw/conserve/rrr/recycle.htm .

Websites like these should give you plenty of material for a couple of sentences on conservation of natural resources. Best of wishes.

Im 13, I really want a job. HELP?

Ok i really need a job. I don’t care if it is online…do u know any websites? Also is there anyway I can get an actual job at 13? what is there? and how do i find if it is legal in my state?

The Expert answers:

You can’t really get a job at 13, it’s not legal in most cases for you to be “hired.” But you can make money.

Yard work and gardening is a good idea. Offer your services to cut grass, weed gardens and do general yard work for people, seniors especially can use the help in the summer.

Hold a car wash! Get a group of friends together and with parents permission start your own car wash.

Have a garage sale. Clean out your closets, toy chests and basements of all the toys/books you no longer use. You’d be surprised how much stuff you no longer use.

Check with the local employment agencies to see if they have any listings for youth. Occasionally camps and other organizations are looking for youngsters to help out.

Unfortunately there are laws about kids working so you have to be creative when you are young to earn a little extra cash. Get your parents involved too, they may have some good ideas. They may even be more encouraged to help you out if they see you trying to make your own cash instead of just holding out your hand.

Charles asks…

jobs that have to do with the enviorment?

what are some jobs that have to do with the enviorment?

The Expert answers:

Here are the Green enviornment jobs of the future.

Designing and managing landfills that recapture exudates and turn them into energy.
Designing energy generators that do not use coal or petrol.
Designing home recycling contraptions to reuse human waste, kitchen waste, and waste water and rain water.
Designing waste water treatment facilities that make pure drinkable water that doesn’t need extra filtration because of drug and chemical contaminants.
Designing human lifestyles and diets and occupations that prevent early and rapid decay of the human body.
Designing factories and plants and businesses that have zero pollution.
This about sums it up.
Do this and you will have a beautiful planet.

However, none of this is possible unless you first you get rid of politicians, lobbysts, and golden parachutes, and Wall Street crooks.

John asks…

What are nice summer jobs for a 12 year old?

I’m 12 years old, but i’ll be 13 in november. I wanna make some money for the summer to buy stuff for ME, so my mother can’t say it’s actually her money so i have to share whatever i bought with my sisters, ect………

So what are good summer jobs for 12 year olds?
Btw, I’m a girl.

Oh, and some jobs i could work with my best friend on would be nice, too 🙂

The Expert answers:

Babysitting your neighbor’s kids, mowing lawns like that other guy said, housekeeping for your neighbors, setting up a lemonade stand, doing a car wash, collecting trash for recycling, setting up a newspaper route, and tutoring are all legit jobs for a 12 year old.

Sharon asks…

recycled furniture?

I saw some TV show where a dad bought his daughter all this stuff for her apartment for college… It was recycled wood, and it was sold in a box, you put it together yourself at home, and it was made especially for apartments, like they had a corner table that was probably a 3′ wide triangle that fit perfect in the corner then u could somehow fold it out in to a 6′ x 6′ dining table, i was jsut wondering if anyone has any clue where i can find some of this furniture… it was super cheap cause it was recycled and u put it together, and i really need it!!!

The Expert answers:

Only thing I found was this:

http://www.mercantila.com/catalog/store/Tvilum-Scanbirk_Pinage_Triangular_Accent_Table?cm_mmc=Shopbots-_-NexTag-_-Pinage_Triangular-_-1287893

Don’t know if it would do the job, or if it’s cheap enough.

Lizzie asks…

If my family is low on money, is there jobs for people underage?

i need a job to help my family! do you think babysitting will give you money for doing that??

The Expert answers:

There are lots of jobs you can do. Babysitting is one, dog walking or pet sitting as well. Have a rummage sale or start recycling. Every little bit helps! Depending on where you live and how old you are work laws are different, you may be able to work a job in certain sectors.

Laura asks…

Do you participate in your local recycling program?

The Expert answers:

At my last job, we got shipments almost daily in corregated cardboard boxes. My supervisor insisted we put the boxes in with the regular trash and actually got upset when I asked about recycling. So, I would sneak the boxes out with me every day to take them to the ONLY place in the Atlanta area I know about with recycling bins (Dekalb Farmer’s Market).

Daniel asks…

Current aluminum can prices in Phoenix.?

What is the current can prices being paid from salvage companies in the Phoenix area?

The Expert answers:

Aluminum cans are the real success story of the recycling movement. By far, the most valuable component in the consumer waste stream, they enjoy the greatest public recognition as a recycled household item. With historical values from $.35 to $.75 US per pound ($775 to $1,655 US per Metric Ton) aluminum cans are often the economic backbone of municipal and private recycling programs. The price can fluctuate with the commodity price for new aluminum, but aluminum can scrap has always had a strong price in comparison to other recyclables, Goodl Luck.

Linda asks…

Gonna Start Recycling Pop Cans For Money?

hey everyone im gonna start puting pop cans in a grocery bag and taking them every saturday to the milliron to be recycling and i was wondering how much money would i get out of recycling pop cans if i took a few bags each week and how many pop cans do i need to make 1 pound because here in ohio when you recycle you get 58 cents per pound of pop cans and im gonna start recycling pop cans each saturday.

The Expert answers:

I have been recycling pop cans for years and when I turn in 3 large plastice bags, not crushed, I always get a few dollars. I don’t know the price today. My grandson took my last batch. Unless you don’t have the space or the transportation it is worth doing for a few extra dollars and to save the landfills.

David asks…

Mountain community Recycling centre ?

how much money would you make off : 1 aluminum pop can?
1 bottle water?
1 glass bottle?

>>ok my English teacher Mrs. Berneche she ask us gr 8s, what issues and solutions there are to help save the environment. So i thought of the idea if our school became a recycle plant, so then we could send the money, we made to the school we adopted in Kenya.

The Expert answers:

Recycling deposits are different for each state. The amounts for some states are printed on the bottles and cans. You also have glass and aluminum in some states. Look up recycling in your phone book and call a recycling center near you. They will gladly give you the price for anything they accept. Yes, I think that is a great idea.

Mandy asks…

Recycling Aluminum Cans?

About how much money is one aluminum can worth?

The Expert answers:

Howdy

Well it takes about 25 to make a pound..You can of course figure it from there..We used to get about 70 cents a pound so they were almost 3 cents a piece. They bring about one-half that at this time. Just hold them to later in the year. The price generally goes up when it starts to get cold.

Good Picking.

Joseph asks…

Can you recycle vibrators?

I have a few old vibrators that don’t work anymore and I’m quite passionate about protecting the environment so it seems silly to just throw these items away because they’re slightly “taboo”! So does anybody know of any place I can send them to get them recycled?

The Expert answers:

Yes you absolutely can!!! Www.lovehoney.co.uk actually has a vibrator recycling program in place and best of all they can sort you out with a half price new one for sending one in!

Check out what happens to them here –

Mark asks…

Which recycling centers in NJ or NY buy soda can tabs?

I collect the little tabs off soda cans and I was wondering if any recycling centers in NJ or NY buy them. I know that these centers buy certain scrap metals, but I really wanted to know if they buy soda can tabs.

Soda Can tabs look like this: http://www.dosomething.org/files/imagecache/500_either_way/files/project_photos/pop%20tops.jpg

The Expert answers:

They buy the whole can ! Those tabs YOU need 1000’s of them to get just .45 thats one lb price for aluminum !

30 12 oz cans = 1 lb ! Recyclying centers all over NY and NJ they takle all kinds of Metal not just aluminum !

SEE me on you tube billybillscrapper and the 1000’s of others WE all show how you can make money doing this and I mean a lot of money even just p/t will make you $200 a week !

Paul asks…

Where to turn in cans for recycling?

I’m going to collect cans to recycle to make money.. but where do I put the cans/ what do I do with them to actually make the money?

The Expert answers:

Look in the phone book for recycling locations in your area. And aluminum is up in price per pound.
Smash the cans flat as you get them. It takes a lot to make money. But it will give you extra coins
to spend. And it helps keep the environment clean. Luck.

Helen asks…

How much are aluminum cans worth for recycling?

I live in Pueblo, Colorado

The Expert answers:

The prices can change daily. About 6 months ago it was 70 cents a pound. Currently about 55 cents a pound. Takes about 35 normal cans to make a pound.

Your Questions About Recycling

by

Sandra asks…

How can I get my neighbors to recycle?

I asked this question in the Environmental section and a lot of young people asnwered that I was nosy and should mind my own business. I believe recycling is everybody’s business, and if you don’t do it, it hurts everyone. Obviously, I can’t just tell them to recycle. Any ideas?
The town does give out bins to everyone. These neighbors don’t use them. I do NOT intended to harrass them, just looking for some way to raise the subject with them.

The Expert answers:

In my area, the department of Waste Management is going to be hiring garbage police. These would be people that check your garbage bags to make sure that you don’t have any recyclables in there. And the proposal is, that if you regularly throw recyclables into your regular garbage pickup, you would be fined $1000 for each infraction.

Recycling has been a law here for years, and there are still people who refuse to conform to the law. Why shouldn’t they be treated as criminals, when they ARE!

I live in a household of seven people. We generate a LOT of “garbage” every week. But it gets separated out into food refuse (all organics) or any paper product that has food refuse on it, which goes in a separate lidded bin. Paper, cans and recyclable plastic can be mixed into one container because the city employs companies that separate it. Yard waste (that does NOT include grass clippings). And garbage that does not belong to any of the other categories (tissue paper, old and worn clothing that is not good enough for re-sale, old pillows and bedding, bed, couches, etc.). If something is made of metal (or predominantly metal) it needs to be picked up by a special truck for recycling, and you can call to make an appointment for that one.

We recycle continuously. We separate out the recyclables and place them in their proper containers, at the time that we decide to throw them out. It makes it much easier on us.

But do you know, that since we have started recycling we regularly have five or six containers of recyclables out at the curb every second week (organics are picked up every week). And only TWO bags of garbage every second week. Recycling DOES work, and keeps so many items out of landfill that can be broken down into their component chemicals and reused to make more consumer products.

And we can help at the store, by buying those items that are made from recycled material.

Joseph asks…

How often do you empty your main garbage can in your house?

This may seem like an odd question but I’m curious how often other people have to empty their trash can. Sometimes it feels like I have to empty it every time I turn around and I’m wondering if that’s normal.

How often do you empty your household garbage can AND how many people live in your home?

Thanks.

The Expert answers:

I’m single, live alone, no pets. But I am a pretty garbage-intensive person. I have a medium sized plastic garbage can indoors, and I tend to generate about three bags a week. This counts everything that I am dumping into the garbage from the wastebaskets. It may not be politically correct, but I do not recycle cans and bottIes. I do send appropriate stuff (banana and orange peels, etc.) down the garbage disposal and usually take cardboard to recycling. I shred advertisements, bills, documents, etc. And put the shreddings in the garbage bag, too. I take my bag out when it is full, usually every two to three days or if there’s anything in it that could develop a strong smell (like meat wrappers, tuna fish cans, etc.) if left in the garbage for several days.

Linda asks…

What do you basically throw away in your garbage?

The Expert answers:

Very little we recycle no-deposit glass & plastic bottles, cardboard and food boxes, paper bags, plastic bags and aluminum foil and any cans. The county picks it up once a week. Anything that’s vegetable or fruit that is left over gets composted. About the only thing get goes in the garbage is food with bones and facial tissue. We throw out one kitchen size bag a week for the garbage

Donna asks…

Blue Grocery Bags, How Many uses can YOU List?

If you don’t recycle, how many uses can you come up with? It’s aweful to see them stuck in the trees, and all along the highway. I use them outside my socks, in my shoes when I garden, my feet stay nice and dry!
Very good! Oh, and I do use them on my head for a shower cap! Oh no, I smell a peeping tom! 🙂

The Expert answers:

Reuse clean bags when shopping,
re wrap baked goods to be kept in freezer,
in a pinch use as a hood in rain,
garbage bag,
liner for compost pail on kitchen counter,
for packing fragile items stuff newspaper in plastic bags and tie,
use as ties,
cover cuttings in flower pot for propagation with clear plastic bags,
store garments out of wool in bag taped close to prevent moths from damaging them.

Helen asks…

I need some statements on recycling!?

Its basically a brochure- 4 pages. IN each page there will be pictures and i’d like to add some statements (just any words that have meaning lol) to them.
For example: the first page will have a picture of earth and the recycling logo, then the statement will be “”A society is defined not only by what it creates, but by what it refuses to destroy.”

Page 2: A Picture of paper being thrown in the trash then a picture of a beautiful object made out of paper.
Page 3: Pictures of beautiful/usable objects made out of recycled things.
Page 4: A Picture of piled up garbage that has things that can be recycled.
I need some words/statements to pages 2-3-4..
Thanks in advance!

The Expert answers:

For page 2: “Look at what this lovely paper bag could have been.”
For page 3: “There’s always an alternative! You just need to be some what clever.”
For page 4: “Whether or not you believe in Global Warming. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a clean house? Garbage Cans alone aren’t always enough to keep your house fully clean but when you add a recycle bin into the equation, you can throw away twice as much junk. The only downside is that the recycling bin is a bit more picky than the garbage can.”

Nancy asks…

How do you pack your garbage?

What sort of garbage bags do you use, do you then throw it into bins or a dumpster, how often is it emptied?

The Expert answers:

I buy high end bags and double bag everything. First I wash as much food smell off of it as I can and then spray 409 on it. Why? Well, if I was a trash pick up person, I would appreciate it. I also have bears who know how to open the cans. So after I put it in the cans outside in the yard, I chain the lids down. It is picked up once a week. I also keep the paper garbage in a different can than the food garbage. Bears don’t go for the paper trash. Up on the mountain in the boonies they do not know about recycling yet.

Ken asks…

Where to find large tote black bags?

just a large fashionable cheap black bag.

The Expert answers:

In the supermarket, look for Hefty Garbage Bags. They come in 30 gal sizes, box of 25 or 30 cost about 3 bucks, a bit more if you want a fashionable drawstring.

If you need bigger, go to your nearest home improvement center and ask for ‘leaf bags’.

You can also get them in blue, so you can mix and match. For these, ask for ‘recycling bags’. The blue ones are usually quite a bit more expensive than the black bags. Don’t know why, except to take advantage of the libs.

Btw, you can also use them as a raincoat by cutting arm and head holes. Heck, you can wear them anytime! Be the first to set a new trend!

Good Luck.

Lisa asks…

Why don’t environmentalists volunteer to sort out recyclables from garbage?

I’m sure your local garbage company would welcome the help and cut down on the land fill.

The Expert answers:

I take it you’re referring MOSTLY to celebrity “environmentalists” who had to pick a “cause-celeb” to fill the time between their movies or albums or whatever…

I AGREE wholeheartedly, and like the answerer who mentioned Ed Begley, Jr. !! I will also point out that his neighbor “Bill Nye the Science Guy” is also a REAL and quiet environmentalist…

I happen to have been raised by a conservative environmentalist… We voted for Reagan but had a garden and compost, we recycled grey-water, and sorted all our garbage.

I’m NOW old (45), own my own ranch and consider myself a “conservative environmentalist”. SURE we own a large diesel 4×4 truck and tractor for ranch chores… But they’ve been running on home-made bio-diesel since 1999 our other ride is a hybrid. Our ranch operations and home are almost entirely powered by solar and wind… We actually get a check each year from the power-company because we put more ONTO the grid than we use.

We recycle… A family of 5 that only takes 3 bags of garbage to the dump every MONTH – compared to the 10-12 bags of cans and glass we recycle in the same time. We don’t drink bottled water. All cardboard and paper is either taken to the recycling center or shredded on the ranch for mulch or bedding for the chickens. Once a year we take our HAZ-MAT (oil, lubricants, paints, used batteries, etc) to the center… NONE of it goes in the trash.

We also happen to grow about 75% of our food on the ranch, so we have very little in the way of packaging.

And limousine liberals call us conservatives “trashers of the environment” !!

Betty asks…

recycling / earth friendly science fair project ideas?

like i need a 7th grade Level if u cant under stand its like why recycle and how much blah bla etc. thanks

The Expert answers:

Instead of throwing away things that can be recycled, set them off to the side to actually be recycled, and I mean down to the littlest scrap of plastic or paper. Before you start your project weigh the garbage when you take it out. The week that you remove all the recyclable items and compost all the food waste measure the bags before you throw away the actual garbage and note the difference. From there you can explain how every bit of what you didn’t throw away would have ended up in a landfill and now that its been recycled it can end up back in the stream of materials humans use, cutting down on raw materials that have to go into our stuff.

I have lots of wire, small gauges, 18-24, mainly strand type. Is this worth anything to a recycler?

We “inherited” a bunch of inventory from a company we bought some material we wanted from. We got a great financial price, but at a cost for the “junk” (to us) we got stuck with. There are metal boxes, pallets of wire, nuts, bolts, washers, etc. Instead of tossing this into a dumpster, any suggestions?

Susan asks…

What are the hidden system files, like the recycler folder?!

Can someone make a list or know where i can find a list of the hidden folders in the c:/ drive. Like the C:/$recycle bin and stuff

The Expert answers:

The Windows operating system is extremely complex and performs a truly incredible number of tasks. Windows is not a “mere operating system” in that it gives you a complete experience on your computer all on it’s own. In fact, you don’t need any other application except for the operating system to get useful work done on your system.

Because Windows tries very hard to be “all things to all people” and fit into many different markets, it often takes extra steps and does extra things that at first glance don’t make sense.

For example, if you went into the DOS program on Windows and looked at files that are normally hidden from view, you would see quite a few things that might alarm you. You would find, for example, that every web site you have visited in the last couple of weeks is recorded, and that many files you have deleted are still around.

Some hidden directories and files include the following:

c:windowshistory
c:windowstempor~1content.ie5

please check this link to know how to view hidden files and more: http://www.webhero.org/System/hidden_files.htm

good luck!

Mandy asks…

can you edit my essay? *copy and paste it edited?

I am not a family psychiatrist, but I do know I have some problems with my family. I’m sure everyone has some sort of unusual problem in their home but I believe mine may be a bit more extraordinary.
Ever since I was young I knew that my family was not “normal”, it was never quite as nice as the family’s I had seen on television, and in fact it was much more complex and troublesome. I live in an Arab-American home mixed with different religions, hobbies, and rivalries. The mixture is like oil and water, it does not quite work. They repel each other.
My father is always talking about success, money, and business. This is because ever sense he was young he had to support his family by himself. My grandfather moved here looking for a better life however, he found some difficulties just like everyone else. No one could speak English but my father caught on. He dropped out of collage and opened a “checkers cleaners” supporting his whole family by himself. I don’t know what he expects from us but I guess he wants us to do something equally amazing. He wants us to do the impossible.
The definition of impossible from Webster’s dictionary is “felt to be incapable of being done, attained, or fulfilled :insuperably difficult”. The feeling is so pressing, whenever I speak to my father I feel as If I am under water, the words come out but are never understood, they rise to the surface as hopeless bubbles. Today I was talking to him and said the word “actually” and I was forced to end my sentence as he began to explain through his insanity how when people say actually, they are really just trying to make time for themselves to come up with a lie. I agreed and left the room knowing that if I argued the outcome would be my father angry, and an overall waste of time.
These impossible expectations are often taken to far, an example I can remember occurred Just last year. My brother received a D on a chemistry test and my father was outraged. I was in my room trying to escape all the noise and confusion. I heard him yell things like “I paid for your college for nothing!” and “you should be ashamed of yourself but you don’t even care!” which were all common things to be said in this sort of argument but this time was different. This time there was a new demand directed toward my brother, one that I had never heard before, it was “bring me your laptop.” This laptop was not truly my brother’s laptop; instead it was barrowed from a friend. But my brother had brought it to him like he was asked. And the last thing I heard was a snap. The next morning I spotted the laptop in the recycling bin broken in half.
Another problem we have encountered in my home is religion. A few years ago I was baptized a Christian without my father knowing, witch may sound like a bad idea but was my only option. My father is a Catholic; at least he says he is. He does not attend church. He has never taken me with him to church. Instead my mother has been taking my all her life. One night my father found out about my baptism and at twelve PM he woke me up screaming furiously at me as I’m in my bed demanding me, giving me no other choice but to be a Catholic. He mentioned how I stabbed my grandfather in the back and how my grandmother was going to hate me forever. However I held strong in this argument and thought to myself that I can make my own decisions and this one he would not make for me. I remember the exact words of the thing he said that hurt me the most. He hollered at the top of his lungs “what do you know about being a catholic?” in witch I replied “clearly a lot more than you do.”
My family is not all just hatred and war. We all have love and sympathy concealed within our hearts. A weak ago my iPod was stolen. When I announced the news to my family they got angry, but soon felt sympathy. The observed the depression that the incident had put me through and that afternoon my father came and talked to me in the living room. This talk was unlike are usual“How are you doing?” “Good how about you?” talks but really had meaning. Instead it was soothing and calming and at the end my father offered to buy me a new iPod witch left me feeling relieved.
I see my family as oil and water. The mixture is not quite harmonious. It is filled with arguments, anger and sympathy but somehow still works. We encounter problems that we will get through together. We find a way to live with each other; it is not a peaceful life but a life none the less. A quote by Zora Neale Hurston that I believe fits my circumstances, is from her book Their Eyes are Watching God it reads “Well, if she must eat out of a long-handled spoon, she must.”

Well no one can really answer that. It helps if you pick out one that you feel strongly about. Try picking out like ten from that list then re-post this to get peoples’ opinions and the pros/cons.
I’m sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Good luck.

Lizzie asks…

How exactly does recycling work?

The Expert answers:

The word ‘recycle’ means not wasting our natural resources. I feel this word has been commercially overused that it has lost it’s original meaning and purpose. We need to recycle becase our earth’s natural resources are exhausted and our rubbish are getting too much that we don’t have any space for them! Don’t be fooled by commercials mis-using the name ‘recycled products’ and make you buy unneccessarily! Think about if you really need a new item, if not, use the old one, or simply forgo buying one. As for every new product designed and produced, it has to make sure that the end product’s material can be recycled in a cost efficient way. You noticed the three arrows forming a triangle shape at the bottom or back of some products, that means those are able to be recycled. I read somewhere that Amsterdam recycles >70% of it’s waste, and it is a country worth studying. By the way, Amsterdam is also the headquarter of Greenpeace International that strives to protect our environment.

Many items can be recycled. Example, plastic comes from crude oil deep in earth. It goes through various processes (heat + chemical reactions) to form long chain of polymers call plastic. It takes 1000 over years for plastic to degrade. The long years needed for plastic to degrade is one reason why plastic is the number one product that need recycling, the other reason may be the rise in oil price, or rather the dimishing oil in our earth due to over drilling. Recycling of plastic may cost more time and money in terms of more man power needed in collecting the used plastic, and more processes are involved in breaking down the polymer and ‘re-chain’ them into usable ones. But with time and advance in technology, the processes will be improved and refined. However, the collection of used plastic requires people to have the right mind-set and throw what can be recycled and what not into the right bin.

Another example is paper and wood. They comes from trees, and trees help balance the ecosystems in terms of oxygen/carbon dioxide levels. Not only that, it is food and home for many species of animals. Ever since the commercialization of paper began, people over-cut trees to the point of extinction. Only recently human realised this mistake and begin reforesation. Sadly, the original forests can never be remake again.

Besides the above two common items, another ‘non-visible’ item is energy, which is under the world’s top most important item to conserve. Energy comes from burning of fuels, and from more ‘environmentally friendly'(depending on how the sources are extracted) sources like wind, water (hydro) and sun (solar). Again, due to increase in oil price, many countries are looking into the green sources. Recycling of energy takes the form of conservation. For end users, that means switching off whenever not in use of the electronic items. Keeping electronics in top working conditions will save the amount of energy used too.

Electronic items like computer, tv, etc can be recycled but not many companies want to do that because it is costly and not commercially viable. Hence, we the end users can play a part by prolonging our electronics’ life span. Do maintain them regularly, and repair them whenever possible instead of throwing away.

Clothes/garments are made of either man-made or natural fabrics. Examples are cotton, linen, silk and wool for natural; and polyester, acetate, and nylon for man-made fabrics. Natural ones come from plants, except for silk which is from worms. As for man-made, again, it comes from crude oil/chemicals. So, it is important to recycle clothes as well as they uses natural resources. I used to study fashion design and worked in the garment industry for many years, until it comes a time when I realise tons and tons of garments are generated and dumped, and this means so much natural resources wasted just like that. Do we really need to wear so many clothings? True beauty is in the mind and body, not the clothes. We just have to dress appropriately and suit our individual styles, but we do not need to change our dressings all the time.

Water is also important source that many countries are recycling. The one I know of is treatment of home or industrial waste water and reuse them for flushing toilets, or for some more advanced countries, drinking water! One way home users can recycle water is use a basin to wash face, a cup to brush teeth, instead of using hands to cup the water while the tap is running all the while. Property developers play a big part in making sure that the buildings or houses built come with water recycling system, whereby the used water is reuse back as flushing water at least once before going into the nation’s treatment plant.

Not sure if this is the answer you are looking for, but your question sure prompt me to think about all the above. Conclusively, whether recycling works depend on consumers and of course the individual organizations and government to work together.

Michael asks…

What do I need to do and know to open a waste vegetable oil recycling business in Florida?

I am currently making biodiesel and would like to expand to include grease removal as a business. I know I need some pumps, tanks, and the proper vehicle such as a flatbed truck. What else would I need and more importantly, what do I need to know about oil recycling. Additionally, where can I find the information neccessary to be legal in Florida?

The Expert answers:

You should definitely check with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. They can guide you through the permitting process for creating an “active” facility. Also, they sponsor a low interest recycling loan program. If I remember correctly (and it may have changed..) the interest rate starts at the current prime rate and goes down based on your credit rating.

Florida is a very good state for looking at increasing recycling in (I know…I live there!). Regarding the business side of things, you need to check with the Deparment of Business and Professional Regulation about getting an “official” business created. You’ll also need to check with your county for a permit as well.

In terms of getting material, you would best be served checking with the local restaurants and seeing what they are doing with their grease/oil now. If they are charging, you should look to see if you can charge less (and you should charge….garbage removal is a valid service that businesses should pay) but enough less to entice them to choose you over their current solution.

You should also check into the new energy bill that was signed by the President. Despite the negative publicity around it because it doesn’t do much (and it really doesn’t…) I believe it did re-fund certain programs through various Federal agencies (both grant & loan) that are focused on alternative fuels production/infrastructure.

Hope this helps!

Joseph asks…

cracking waste motor oil?

i like to know how to crack waste motor oil into use able products. a home setup, not very costly?

The Expert answers:

Go to college for four years, become a chemical engineer and then pony up about a million or so dollars for the hardware and raw materials to build the world’s smallest cat cracker that might produce a cup of gasoline per day. Oh, and don’t forget to tell the EPA and the other regulatory agencies so they can inspect your facility for safety and environmental control.

There’s a reason that catalytic crackers are huge (and very expensive) affairs. They wouldn’t make any money if they were small.

But, basically, they are stills, using special materials as surfactants. They also require a great deal of maintenance and waste disposal.

If you want to do something useful with used motor oil, send it to the oil-change place for recycling – you’ll be doing everyone a favor.

George asks…

What is a household waste that is commonly thrown away and could pollute the ground water?

And give an alternative to dumping the waste in a landfill?

The Expert answers:

One common waste stream includes plastic quart containers from do-it-yourself (DIY) oil changes. When DIYers do not drain these containers sufficiently, there remains an ounce or so of oil inside the container after the DIYer empties the container into their crankcase.

Then, because most municipalities cannot recycle these containers – the residual oil contaminates the batch of recyled plastics, the only alternative is for DIYers is to throw the containers into the trash. Then if the trash is landfilled, the oil can potentially reach ground water, if the liner is breached.

To reduce the amount of oil in the containers (and therefore the amount going to a landfill) would be to invert them and allow them to more fully drain – this might take 12 hours – there are actually devices that are designed to hold 4 or 5 inverted containers that conveys the drained oil to a collection vessel.

Another solution is for municipalities to adopt recycling pre-processing that can separate oil from the plastic container – some are cryogenic-type processes.

Charles asks…

OIL CHANGE: I rarely drive my car, about 1000 miles a year. How often should I get an oil change?

I rarely drive my car, about 1000 miles a year. I bought it new in 2005 and it currently only has 8000 miles. It goes several months without being driven.

How often should I get an oil change?

The Expert answers:

The 3,000 Mile Oil Change MythBy Bill Siuru, Greencar.com provided by: According to a recent study by the California Integrated Waste Management Board, 73 percent of California drivers change their oil more frequently than required. This same scenario no doubt repeats itself across the country. Besides wasting money, this translates into unnecessary consumption of $100-a-barrel oil, much of it imported.
Using 2005 data, the Board estimates that Californians alone generate about 153.5 million gallons of waste oil annually, of which only about 60 percent is recycled. Used motor oil poses the greatest environmental risk of all automotive fluids because it is insoluble, persistent, and contains heavy metal and toxic chemicals. One gallon of used oil can foul the taste of one million gallons of water.
» Article provided by GreenCar.com
It’s been a misconception for years that engine oil should be changed every 3000 miles, even though most auto manufacturers now recommend oil changes at 5,000, 7,000, or even 10,000 mile intervals under normal driving conditions.
Greatly improved oils, including synthetic oils, coupled with better engines mean longer spans between oil changes without harming an engine. The 3000 mile interval is a carryover from days when engines used single-grade, non-detergent oils.
For several years, automakers like General Motors, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz have installed computerized systems that alert drivers via an instrument panel light when it’s time to change oil. As an example, the General Motor Oil Life System (GMOLS) analyzes the engine temperature, rpms, vehicle speeds, and other driving conditions to calculate the rate of engine oil degradation. Then, software calculates when the oil needs to be changed. Other systems work similarly.
Because of the many external conditions and parameters that have to be taken into account, calculating the precise maximum service interval using mathematical models alone is difficult. Now, Daimler AG has developed a more direct and precise way to monitor oil quality directly on board a vehicle.
Daimler uses a special sensor integrated into the oil circuit to monitor engine oil directly. Oil doesn’t wear out, but rather dirt and impurities cause oil to lose its ability to lubricate properly, dictating the need for a change. Daimler uses the oil’s “permittivity,” that is, the ability to polarize in response to the electric field. If the engine oil is contaminated by water or soot particles, it polarizes to a greater extent and its permittivity increases.
To evaluate the quality of the oil, permittivity is measured by applying an AC potential between the interior and exterior pipes of an oil-filled sensor to determine how well the oil transmits the applied electric field.
Because not all impurities can be measured with sufficient precision via the electric field method, Daimler also measures the oil’s viscosity to detect any fuel that may have seeped into the oil. Daimler researchers measure viscosity while the vehicle is in motion by observing the oil’s side-to-side motion in the oil sump. The slower the oil moves, the higher its viscosity. This movement is registered by a sensor and the viscosity is calculated on this basis.
A single sensor, along with the information already monitored by on-board computers, is sufficient to determine the various parameters of the engine oil. Daimler will likely use the technology first on its commercial vehicles. Here, large oil reservoirs mean larger quantities of oil can be saved. Plus, a predicted 25 percent increase between service intervals and reduced downtime will be of interest to fleets, and thus justify the added cost of installation.

Does anybody know any Metal Recycling Centers in Pittsburgh?

I live in the South Hills so preferibally somewhere closer to there would be nice.

I’ve got an old aluminum radiator i’m looking to sell as scrap.

Carol asks…

NO search engine has helped me find recycling centers or programs for jeans, does anyone know of any?

Maybe I am inept at the web surf thing, but my jeans are ripped and wont sell and I’d rather take them some place to be recycled rather than throwing them away.

The Expert answers:

Try finding your local freecycle group at www.freecycle.org. You can post that you are offering old jeans. I’m sure a lot of people would like to use them for fabric for clothes or quilts or crafts. You could also offer them up in the free section of your local Craigslist at www.craigslist.org. Craigslist is probably easier to use for a one time listing, as joining freecycle can take a few hours and is somewhat confusing.

Recycling Centers?

I had the idea to recycle plastic and glass bottles and get the money out of them to donate it to the Children’s Miracle Network and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital but as of yet haven’t been able to find a recycling center that will do that.

Does anyone know of a recycling center in the Ohio area that will recycle plastic pop bottles and glass bottles in exchange for money?

The Expert answers:

Plastic and glass are not high-value materials. You would need to recycle a LOT of each of them to make much cash.

Recycled glass (or rather pieces of glass containers) are known as cullet. The only pricing data I could find for glass cullet is rather old, but it was in the range of $25 to $50 per ton for clear glass. Amber glass was somewhat less, and green glass was half or less than half the price of clear.

The apparent pricing of recycled pastics actually surprised me. It is measured in cents per pound for clean, sorted, flaked (shredded) plastics and ranges from up to $1 per pound for some types of plastic, down to 25 cents a pound for other types. I’m doubtful, however, that you would be willing to wash, separate and shred the plastics before selling them.

If, armed with this knowledge, you are still excited about trying to sell your bottles, then I would look in the yellow pages for metal recyclers and give them a call. They deal in the commodities market, and probably know who in the area handles plastics and glass.

Good luck.

Sandy asks…

Where are some recycling centers in Columbus,OH?

We are trying to save the world and get money at the same time so we would like to know where the recycling center is so we can do so.Also if anybody went to the recycling center before how much trash do you need to get at lease $100?

The Expert answers:

There are 9 recycling centers in the Columbus area:
http://local.yahoo.com/results;_ylt=ApTsfQbreyVoWN4DukQNjJiGNcIF;_ylv=3?p=recycling+center&csz=columbus%2C+oh
Typical hours are: M-F 8-5 SAT 8-12
though many are not open on Saturday.
You may get between $0.30 – $0.40 per pound of Aluminum.

Thus for $100, you will need about 300 lbs.

John asks…

Do Recycling Centers Clean and Resell Wholesale Beer Bottles?

I am looking to purchase 5,500 beer bottles monthly. Does anyone know if you can purchase cleaned, used bottles and where to buy them from?

The Expert answers:

Recycling centers just recycle, they don’t clean anything. They sort everything into various categories (paper, aluminum, glass, metal, electronics) and then sell it to the appropriate buyers.

For example, with glass…anything that is glass gets put into containers and sold to companies who will grind it up, melt it, and normally make it into glass pellets for smelting into other things.

No one is going to be able to supply 5,000+ used bottles of the same type per month. You will need to buy new ones BUT…the cost of the bottle will be included in the cost of your product (at ~20¢-33¢ each for bottles and cap). The thing to consider is even new bottles should still be washed before they are filled.

Richard asks…

Is there a recycling center in Laurel?

The Expert answers:

There are a few commercial recycling companies in Laurel that will accept specific types of recyclables. A list of commercial recycling centers and what they recycle can be referenced in the first link sourced for this answer (below).

In PG county, where Laurel is located, curbside residential pickup should be the norm. However, there are two additional ways to recycle or dispose of items that are not collected from households.

1) The Materials Recovery Facility (1000 Ritchie Road
Capitol Heights, Maryland) is a county-owned recycling center that will likely accept direct dropoffs. They can be contacted at 301-499-1707.

2) Non-recyclable household hazardous waste (appliances, batteries, chemicals) is accepted from residential users on Sundays (7:30am-4:pm) at the Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill (11611 White House Road, Upper Marlboro, MD, 301-883-5045)

Last buty not least, freecycling is a great way to find new homes for reusable items. Check out freecycle.org for more information.

Mary asks…

What was East Germany like in the early 1980’s, specifically 1984?

The Expert answers:

Compared with other Soviet-dominated countries in Europe, East Germany had a high standard of living. Compared with free, western European countries, East Germany had a poor standard of living. And, of course, East Germans had none of the individual freedoms and human rights that were common throughout the West. The combination of economic and political disadvantages is why so many East Germans kept on trying to escape to the West.

However, to put the best possible light on East Germany in this period, here are some factors in which it might have seemed – at least to some people — superior to the West. East Germany prioritized elements in daily life such as education, healthcare, housing, and employment. Education was thorough: but heavily tilted toward technology; and also closely supervised by political officers in an effort to spread propaganda, effectively a program to brainwash students into believing in the superiority of the communist system. Healthcare was universally available and ‘free’: but the same was true for most western European countries; and East German medical practices and facilities were less advanced than those in the West. Housing was provided to everyone: there were no homeless people; however, the quality of housing was markedly inferior to western norms. There was no unemployment in East Germany: everyone of working age had a job; but many jobs were sinecures, not truly required for the functioning of the economy, provided merely to maintain statistical full employment; liberty to change jobs was limited; and high performers were not adequately compensated.

Sports of all kinds were heavily promoted by the East German state, as a means of gaining prestige in international competitions. East German athletes won a hugely disproportionate number of medals at Olympic games, well ahead of the much larger West Germany. There were, however, very strong suspicions of systematic doping by East German athletes, particularly using anabolic steroids to enhance performance. The doping was carried out, secretly but fully authorized by the government, under State Plan 14.25.

East Germany was one of the first countries to introduce a nation-wide recycling program, SERO. However, this was not due to environmental concerns; it was to conserve scarce resources. In fact, environmental pollution by East German industry was, by western standards, very dire.

The cost of many goods in East Germany, as a percentage of average monthly income, was very high indeed. Here are some examples (but from 1989, not 1984): –
Color TV: West Germany:38% / East Germany:588%
Washing machine: 48% / 365%
Car(VW Polo/Trabant): 1143% / 11765%
Beef,1 kg: 0,7% / 1%
Jeans: 3% / 15%
Women’s shoes: 4% / 14%

The people were not free to choose their government. In elections the ballot paper given to voters contained only one candidate: the person chosen by the Communist party. To vote “yes”, the voter simply took the ballot paper, made no changes, and dropped it into the voting box. To vote against the chosen Communist candidate, the voter had to cross out the candidate’s name, then take the ballot paper to a separate, public voter box. To vote “no” in this fashion was considered an act of defiance. At the least, any person voting “no” would be put under close surveillance by the Stasi (Secret police): one could also expect to be demoted at work, or expelled from college.

East Germany did allow around 1,000 people per month to emigrate legally (as opposed to attempting to escape, at risk of death). Most legal emigrants were retired or sick people, judged to be of no further productive use to the East German economy. However, it could also be dangerous to apply for an emigration permit. For example, in early 1984, Pastor Wolf Quassdorf was jailed for attempting to emigrate; and numerous people were arrested for putting a sign with the letter “A” (for ”ausreisen”) in their windows.

Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause “computer slow”.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you’ve installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it’s Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

Fund Raising ideas….?

(Basic Idea)
I need some fund raising ideas.

My schools student body is looking to employee Japanese and Tagalog instructor for a class once a week after school. Are shitty district is pretty much broke due to the fact are state is having finical problems. Me and two others have started a campaign to raise money.

Currently are only ideas are pretty much 1. Recycling and Car Wash.

Please any ideas would be appreciated.
I’d also like to add soliciting is extremely limited at the school.

The Expert answers:

In my opinion, I think you are asking your question in the wrong place. Due to current financial situations for everyone I think it might be best for you to go out and ask the community this question. What services you can do for them and what do they think you are worth.

Example: Send out a flier with your contact info on it explaining your idea or what you are trying to do. Ask them what kinds of jobs they need to have done around their homes or community and how much they think it would be worth for you to do it.

You might even goto the local churches or even the government center or agency.

gaming pc build?

hi i want to build a pc that can run games like arma 3, rust, dayz and titanfall. i have already got most of the parts from recycled computers. i have a budget of $350(until i get a new job). i would like to be able to play these games with a frame rate over 30 and between mediam to high settings. these are the parts that i am thinking of buying.
amd a10 6800k
msi fm2-a55m-e33 motherboard
i already have
corsair vengance 8gb ddr3 ram
antec 900 case
350w antec psu
open to any suggestions

The Expert answers:

David hytmen claims he’s a critic, but after seeing him here on multiple occasions as well as the answers he gives, i’m very skeptical. The fact that this answer seems copy-pasted makes me even more apprehensive. PC piracy is rampent, but this goes for movies and music as well, and people without gaming pcs can do this, so i would think it’s even more rampant. People play on PC because it does offer better visuals, and many mods are perfectly legal: some developers even offer kits to the public.

Tangent aside, if you’re looking for budget parts, go for a radeon graphics card. You should be able to find an HD 7700 series for much less than 100 during a newegg sale. That’s usually the bottleneck for running games. Also, if you can buy two 4-gig sticks of ram so your computer runs in dual-channel mode: it’s slightly faster. Good luck.

I wanted to take the time to tell you a little about the site that i have been participating in lately. The name of the site is www.points2shop.com. This isn’t a ‘Get Free Things’ site. In fact, nothing in life is free. However, this is a site that you can use to EARN things that you would otherwise have to pay for.
I know, you’re probably thinking ‘How is that possible!’ well, its possible because advertisers place their links on the points2shop website. Then members like myself go and complete the offers that we are interested in. When i do an offer, points2shop gets paid for bringing me to that advertisers website. When points2shop gets paid, they give me a portion of that payment so that i can then get things from amazon.com. I can also play games and enter loteries to earn money as well. Referrals also allow you to make a lot of money.
If you need to know more information you can check their forums where members post the things that they have received for earning points on the points2shop website here.
Thank you for taking the time to read this information and i hope to see you earning points soon!”

Maria asks…

Help selecting branch please?

I’m 19 years old, in good shape, 6’2″, 170 lbs. I have been training with a former Navy SEAL to post PST scores high enough to get a SEAL contract. This whole time I have been thinking that I’m going to join the Navy obviously. However, it occurred to me that if I fail out at BUD/s, there is no garauntee that I will get my back up MOS which is a Corpsman (hopefully I can go FMF). I don’t want to end up stuck on a ship with a job that I hate. I want to serve my country in this war.

I explored the option of signing an 18X enlistment with the Army. Basically, I would enlist Infantry, go to basic training, AIT, Jump School, then Special Forces School barring completion of the previous schools. The reason I like this option, is that if I don’t make it through Special Forces training, I’ll be sent most likely to the 82nd, or another Airborne Infantry unit. Meaning that I will almost certaintly get deployed.

I am very driven, and I’m not planning on failing at anything I do in life, but I just want to go with the option that gives me the best fall back plan. Also, please don’t think I’m stupid for wanting to go to war. My Papaw served in WWII and recieved a Puple Heart and Bronze Star as well as being MIA at only 19 years old. My uncle served in Vietnam, my dad served in Desert storm as an MP, and my cousin has served 2 tours in this current war, 1 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan (all of which were in the Army). I feel like it’s in my blood to be a soldier and I’ve wanted to do it since I was a kid. If anyone can give me advice from personal experience or general knowledge I would love to hear it. What should I do? Thanks for all serious answers.
Why can’t someone ask for advice without getting bashed? Cyber bullies need to get a life. Everyone and anyone who is in the military is doing their part and has my respect, some jobs are just not what I want to be doing though. If you don’t have a serious answer to help me with my situation, then go back to your gay porn site. Thanks to the people that are helping though.

First off you say you want to serve in “this war”. I assume you mean Afghanistan. We are supposed to be leaving Afghanistan in 2014. That is 2-3 years from now depending on the month we actually pull out. You haven’t actually joined the military yet. Give 6 months to a year for your application, sitting in DEP and waiting for your ship date. Then basic. Then tech school. These can vary in lengths but I’m going to use SEAL’s as an example. 2 months for basic training, 2 months for BUD/s prep, 3 week intro to BUD/s, each of the three phases is 7 weeks. Then you are off to other training like static line jumps, sere etc. All in all it takes well over a year to become qualified. Then pre deployment training with your unit. That takes a couple of months. This doesn’t include any extra wait time for waivers or if you get recycled in a class. Now its been 2+ years. Now I’m not all knowing. I just want you to see that you could pick the most dangerous combat job there is and it would still be possible that you will never serve in “this” war. Obviously training times for different branches and different special forces differ but you get the idea. We are the US though and undoubtedly you will get to go somewhere sooner or later.

As far as advice goes, this decision is yours and yours alone. Would Army special forces satisfy you in the way that being a Navy SEAL would? Is having a good back up better than having the best 1st choice? If you want to be a SEAL then do it. Yes the odds aren’t in your favor but up to 10% of BUD/s classes graduate. Why couldn’t that be you if you have the determination?

Some things to think about are the fact that the Navy has jobs that aren’t always on ships like EOD and FMF corpsmen. Of course if there are Marines on ship (which there always are) then their corpsman can be with them. Even SEALs are regularly deployed on ships so that they can be close by if they are needed. Chances are if you are in the Navy you will be on a ship sooner or later no matter who you are.
The Army will guarantee you won’t be on a ship but it still won’t guarantee that you will get the job you want or even that you will deploy.

Sorry I don’t have an answer here but like I said it is your decision to make. Hope I gave you something worth thinking about. Good luck to you.

Natural vs. Synthetic?

I have to write a persuasive paragraph on the following question:
What should be the job of a scientist?
Pick one to argue:
a) Create more synthetic substances. Fore example: synthetic elements, genetically modified food
b) Study substances that naturally exist.

I pick natural substances, but have no idea what to write

To get this typed in glass verses plastic into the yahoo question search i hope it helps.
Q Is it true that the EU obliges us to change from glass to plastic bottles?

A No, it is not true. No one is obliging us to change from glass to plastic bottles. And certainly no such agreement was reached during negotiations.

Statements made to the effect that we will be obliged to change to plastic bottles and that consequently we will have a mountain of plastic to deal with, are not correct. In fact, they are also misleading.

First, a background to what exactly we are talking about.

One of the sources of waste comes from beverage bottles. We discard mineral water plastic bottles, beer cans and glass bottles from imported beer and wine.

On the other hand, with regards to soft drinks, for a number of years now, Malta has only allowed soft drinks to be bottled in re-useable glass bottles, metal containers or kegs.

This ban on plastic has the effect of limiting waste because we use less plastic bottles. Instead, we use glass bottles that can be re-used thanks to an efficient deposit-and-return system that encourages us to return glass bottles for re-use.

When we return our bottles, we get our deposit back. And it is estimated that this system also keeps some eighty million plastic bottles out of the waste stream. From an environmental point of view, therefore, this system works well. If anything, it needs to be extended to all types of drinks, not just soft drinks and to all types of bottles, not just glass.

However, the ban also has the effect of protecting our local soft drinks industry against competition because in practice it blocks imports of soft drinks.

As a result, it also has the effect of limiting consumer choice. Maltese consumers are limited to soft drinks that are made in Malta. At a price. Statistics show that Malta is one of the most expensive places for soft drinks. The price of the category of drinks that comprises soft drinks is thirty percent (30%) higher in Malta than it is in the EU. Prices in Malta are even higher when compared to wealthier countries such as Luxembourg, Austria, Italy, Spain and France. And, of course, higher than all candidate countries. Soft drinks are only more expensive in Scandinavian countries.

Of course, competition is likely to push prices down.

This is where the EU comes in. If you are part of the EU, or if you are part of a free trade arrangement with the EU for that matter, then you must allow free trade. There can be no restrictions to free trade. This applies both in the context of membership and even in the context of a free trade arrangement with the EU. You either have free trade or you do not. In free trade you cannot keep out competition by banning plastic bottles.

Which is fine if we want free trade with the EU. But free trade can here conflict with environmental protection if all types of bottles are freely allowed to be sold without any consideration for what happens to their packaging.

Unless something is done to prevent the potential damaging impact. And something can indeed be done. For instance, under EU law you cannot just dump plastic bottles into the waste stream. Plastic should be recovered, separated from other waste and recycled. On this point, Malta negotiated a transitional period until the end of 2009 to reach a minimum 15% recycling target for plastic.

Specifically on the use of plastic bottles, during negotiations Malta first requested to maintain its beverage container packaging regime and therefore effectively retain its ban on imported soft drinks. This request was not accepted because the EU argued that Malta could still address waste problems using other means. It was possible to ensure that lifting the ban would not lead to an increase in waste.

It was therefore agreed that Malta would keep the ban on plastic bottles until the end of 2007. This would give the Maltese authorities enough time to adapt the beverage container packaging regime and it would give local industry enough time to adjust to competition.

There are different models that can be used for a system that prevents bottles from ending in the waste stream. The deposit-and-return system that we use today is one such system which can be safely retained.

But consistency dictates that any new system should be all-inclusive and not just limited to locally-produced soft drinks. It should cover all types of bottles, not just glass.

Along with a mandatory deposit-and-return system, fiscal measures may be introduced to favour one type of packaging over another on the basis of its impact on the environment. In our case, this would mean that any eco-tax would be higher on plastic bottles than on glass bottles. This could encourage consumers to buy glass bottles and pay less tax. As a result, it would also lead to less plastic bottles being used.

The next step is for this new regime to be designed. Clearly there will need to be consultation with stakeholders. And serious political will is required to give the environment the priority it deserves, especially if local industry decides to switch from glass to plastic.

But the experience of other countries shows that, provided that they are implemented effectively, these systems can work. And you can have free trade in drinks without a mountain of plastic bottles.

Fml…I’m so lost idk what to do?

So here’s the deal. A few months after I got married my husband found out he was going to The Philippines and left shortly after. He talked me into getting out of the military and following him there. I love to travel and I loved him even more so I got out and got ready to move. Shortly after he left he began having affairs with the local women. Apparently some women over there throw themselves at men in his situation and the temptation was too much for him. I confronted him and, of course, he denied it like the slimy, lying pos he is….but after I gave him names and some other humiliating evidence he finally had no choice but to admit to it. It was all tearful and pathetic on both ends. I had my heart ripped out and he was caught. So anyway he gave me the whole ” Im stupid, ill never hurt you again, I don’t want to lose you” speech and I am ashamed to say I bought it. Things were rocky for a bit. I hated what he had done and I didn’t respect him as a man for being so weak and after that being so cowardly as to lie after he was caught. He tried hard from way over there to win back my trust and although he never got it back I dropped it and started to move on. A few weeks before i was supposed to fly out there he started behaving strangely, and although this time I haven’t dived in full speed to get proof of his second round of infidelity, I know he was up to no good and I think he just didn’t want me to get there and find out that the cheating never stopped. I cut myself off from everyone and everything. Literally. I lost myself in grief. I stopped eating, sleeping, leaving the house. I lost 40 pounds (and on me that made me a bag of bones). My hair even started to fall out. Stress and heart break really took a toll on me. One day I decided I had let myself care too much and I decided to pick myself back up and move forward. I found a really good job, started eating again and working out. My hair started to grown back in. It’s still a bit thin but it looks a lot better. Then I ran into my high school sweet heart and things were good. I didn’t want anything serious with him but he is very handsome and kind so he was just what I needed at the time. I tried very hard to keep things light with him but as most women know….the way to get a man to want to commit is try your damnedest not to commit so there you go. He is super great but he is leaving here in a year and will be gone a lot. His job is like that. Not really what I want in a relationship bc every single committed relationship I have been in has always been with a man who is gone constantly. I have never ever ever had a relationship where we both live in the same city the whole time. I’m done being the one left behind. Soooooo then the sequester happened and I was laid off. Along with hundreds of others. Now I am unemployed and I am having a very difficult time finding employment that I can pay the bills here with. I can take a lower paying job but I would definitely lose my house. And guess who is on there way back stateside….the cheating husband with his candy words and promises again. Oh he is full of promises, excuses and apologies. I don’t buy a single word coming out of his mouth but the situation is that I kinda need him and he knows it. Financially I mean. The high school sweet heart…argh…I am behaving so childishly and I know it. I stopped responding to his phone calls and texts. He keeps trying to get ahold of be but I’m being silent. It’s horrible I know but I just don’t know what to say to him that doesn’t make me sound crazy. My husband is coming back and he wants to come home to me and ” work it out”. I don’t want to work on anything but financially I need him to come home. I feel so stuck. And I feel like high school sweet heart will think I was just blowing smoke up his rear which was never my intention. I know this was crazy long but I can’t talk to my friend or family about this.

The Expert answers:

The fact that you are going to take back a man that has disrespected you so much and hurt you in the past because of hard economic times speaks volumes about your personality. Take yourself out of the equation and put instead a daughter you love dearly, what would you advise her? , what would you tell her about the man that she is thinking of bringing back? . I’m sure you will tell her that it’ll be DejaVu all over again with him. The lies, the deceptions and the headaches will be with her forever, right? You need to reinvent yourself again, and this time be good at it, don’t recycle what you already discarded. Even though you’re going thru a rough period, you will get over it, but please don’t start with old baggage. Let the past where it belongs and don’t make things worse than what they are. You have made bad choices when it comes to picking a mate, do not repeat the same mistakes again. Meet new people, look for different career options, be more social, read books that will help you become a better person. Hopefully you’ll find the right path in your life, you have the brains and the motivation. Some people say “I am one step away from becoming someone better”, instead of saying, “today I will make step number one on changing how I live my life” Similar idea but with a ddifferent approach. Best of luck.
