Recycling Around the world… HELP!?
Okay, so I’m doing a school project about recycling around the world. Are there any websites that tell you specific facts about different continents that recycle? For example, I need recycling facts for Europe and Asia. I want to know how much they recycle each year, and what else they do to help or not help.
Thanks so much!

How should I begin my persuasive speech about recycling?
I’m giving a speech persuading people to recycle. I need an “attention-getter” to start off with to get the audience to pay attention. I was thinking of collecting some recyclable items that were found in the trash or as litter and dumping all of them out on the table to begin. Then I would say something like if all of these items were recycled they could have powered a television for 6 hours or (insert another fact.) Suggestions please! Thanks!
The Expert answers:
You need a hook. Try using an anecdote or quote. It should be interesting and usually works 😉

Sandra asks…
can someone make me a 5-7 sentence speech on why we should make recycling mandatory?
extra facts:
25% of adults dont recycle every three in ten of 18yr. to 30yr olds recylcle abd 19% of seniors dont recylcle
approxmatley 60% of trash that is thrown away is recycable
The Expert answers:
Yes, I can.
Steven asks…
Today our Recycle Cart was emptied by Curb Tender not by Recycling What reason for this?
Usually, Curb Tender automatically empties regular trash, not recycle material. But this morning as I watched, the automated arm pick up the blue recyclables I realized they in fact did not also pick up our regular trash but drove off only with the stuff we put out for recycling every week.
The Expert answers:
The trash collectors work for the city and are union members. They don’t have to do the job right they just have to show up on time, pretend to work and pay their union dues to keep their high paying jobs.
Welcome to the wonderful world of public unions. Where you pay them extra to screw up the job. But don’t worry. One day they will retire and you get to pay them for not working at all.

How does recycling stop help stop global warming????????
I’m starting a recycling program at my school and one of my arguments is that recycling helps stop harmfull affects of global warming but i’m not really sure how to show the info i found to a high school and still keep them not only awake but also intrested in the topic. Does any one have and kool facts that might catch teenages and students eye on this topic?
The Expert answers:
It creates less pollution to recycle an item than it does to create something from scratch. Thsi is because mostly – the processes that involve making something from scratch releases more CO2 than the processes involved in recycling.
Cheers.

How does one contact Yahoo about non-recognition of password. I have already done two hours of recycling thro?
Have already spent two hours being recycled through your aide memoire system for forgotten password recovery. Your prompt response will be appreciated. AOL have a telephone number, not a call centre, which handles problems like these.
So far, the Yahoo operation does not appear to be very satisfactory. In fact, it’s disappointing. H.A.Gavin(hgsmanser)

Chris asks…
If I don’t believe in global warming, but agree with recycling etc, shall I just go along with the concensus
I do approve of recycling and improving our treatment of the environment and how we live. I think fear of a vengefull ‘Earth God’ that we have to sacrifice our carbon offsets and ‘not anger lest he smite us’ is a good incentive for us all to ‘straighten up and fly right’ literally.
But the solar activity evidence, and the lack of heating of the troposphere, the fact that they used to grow grapes in greenland in the middle ages, make me feel uncertain about the links with manmade global warming.
Should I just go along with it? at least we will get a better planet in the short term out of it, even if we aren’t REALLY saving the planet by driving less right?
The Expert answers:
There is no harm done by going with the “global warming” belief. If they are wrong – you helped to make th earth last longer due to saving energy and keeping it green and clean.
On the other hand, if they are right, it may already be too late to do much about it. But I would still do my best to shrink my carbon footprint.
The earth is an amazing place and we should respect it as such. I drive my family nuts by checking their trash for recycables
We can do a whole lot better – europe and japan are already decades ahead of us in terms of energy efficiency.
Escalators don’t run if no one is on them. You pay for grocery bags but most people have reusble bags. Cars have 1 liter engines
and people have mass transit – suitable for them since thei don’t hav spread out suburbs. Once gas costs $6/gallon here people will finally start thinking of what they are wasting.

Robert asks…
Discuss the possible ways to slove environmental problems.?
State what sort of things we can do to help
The Expert answers:
The most important thing perhaps is open and honest discussion – without the agendas of scientists budgets etc being allowed to cloud the picture.
I know your question is about environmental problems in general BUT to give an example, the global warming myth (that co2 cause temp rise when in fact is IS the opposite way around) has been allowed to run until now because any scientist wanting funding can easily obtain it – IF they are going to do more work on the problem. Once it turned out that the problem has NOTHING to do with CO2 emission, funding will start to dry up.
Too many jobs are involved in perpetuating myths. For example, although refilling of milkbottles is environmentally friendly, other glass recycling uses more energy to collect / sort / crush / melt / reform than simply making a new one from scratch – and sand is not something we have a great shortage of.
Waste paper recyling does more harm than good, paper quickly mulches down and is recyled naturally. Yet the bleaches, sorintg, collecting and re-pressing of waste paper makes a third-rate product with more energy being used than using virgin wood. AND……as the trees are grown ONLY for making paper and are 100% sustained, there is ZERO benefit from a forestry point of view.
So first of, you need to dispense with some of the myths – and there are a LOT of them around.
Next off, I guess is making it easier for people to be more environmentally aware – there is almost an attitude that greener has to be “harder/less good” and it IS usually more expensive.
Let’s see…. A ream of bright white virgin paper at £3 or a ream of greyish paper that has ben used before, the re-pulkped, bleached a bit and then sold for £5 – though it does have a nice picture of a tree on the front.
See my point.
We need to stop with the pointless and expensive and focus on things that would REALLY make a difference.
Encourage better home insulation, penalise companies that use excess packaging – (sealed plastic bag inside a metal foil dish inside a cardboard outer inside a cellophane wrap)
Years ago, confectionary was wrapped in paper – now it has to be plastic. Anyone hear of problem being caused when it was just (biodegradable) paper?
A bit move to limit the number of different materials would make the recyling of more products possible – some plastic containers have a loyethylene body, but use a PVC top – so the two MUST be manually separated before recyling.
Soft drink cans are sometimes part steel, part aluminium – ALL aluminium would again make recyling more cost effective.
This could turn into a 20,000 word essay very easily – but I am not going to do all of your homework for you – but what I am trying to get over is that before you worry about things in too much detail, you MUST get rid of the hugely misleading myths.
Some recycling at the moment is VERY counterproductive to the environment – the recycled paper being one of them.

Maria asks…
My school issues are affecting my health?
It all started when I was told I was suspended for next tuesday (Today). This caused me to go into panic when I first heard those words. On the Friday before my meet with the principle I had been in last period study hall when I decided to sclean out my locker. The teacher we have study hall with allows 3 people at a time to their lockers to clean them. We take her recycling bin out into the hall to dispose of all loose papers or unwanted items and such. It was already a half hour into the study all when we did this and the recycling bins get cleaned out at 12 pm each day. It was about 2:30 so all of it would have to wait to be disposed of till the next day at 12 pm. I am an artist and I am indeed a “Furry” . For a commision I was requested to do a nude picture of someones character for a reference sheet. The result was a simple feminine body shape with some fur markings. The only thing on it that was slightly wrong for school was breasts and nipples. It was not posed in any pin up kinda thing or anything like that. Just a simple, arms out to show detail, legs together, kinda of thing. It had gotten mixed in with my school papers so I guess I had just not have been paying attention when packing my homework up for that night and scooped up ALL the papers on my desk at the time. I found it in my backpack and decided to get rid of it since I figured I could draw much better detailing and make it look better than it did. A few minutes later the recycling bin had gotten too full between the 3 of us emptying our trash into it so we kicked the papers down, making the drawing surely go deep to the bottom of the trash and be very crumbled. Skipping ahead to after the weekend i began to feel sick and i stayed home for 3 days after monday because i felt fine on monday until that night. On the day I got back I had gone about my day normally until 3rd period and then the teacher said the vice principle wanted to see me. I was confused as to why i would be called down like this so I spent my whole walk to the office scraping my mind for anything i did wrong, missing too many days of school,my haircolor (Its dyed with multiple colors which isnt in the handbook for a Catholic school),or something else? When I sat down he showed me the picture and my heart sank. The first thing he said was that the study hall teacher was NOT snooping and In my mind i asked myself “Then WHAT WAS she doing!?” and he began his speach on how these were not appropriate for school. My art style is very distinct and my artwork has been on hallway walls enough that people know me as “that artist girl”. It was no error it was indeed mine. I explained to him how It was not supposed to be at school and he said it was still inappropriate. The teacher that found these pictures not only strongly dislikes me for multiple reasons (She,herself, is very very crooked by telling us not to go for our dreams and that if we do we will crash and live a poor life) but all students seem to have issues with her. Anyways, I recieved a one day suspension (Today) and no one will listen to me. Ontop of all this im getting 4 Fs on my report card that same day and that made my guardians furious ontop of all this. They must come to the school on Friday to see the picture and in a result the stress of all this is making me not notice that i dont eat for an entire day and when i do eat I feel very sick afterwards. I cant stop thinkig about this and im very very worried and my guardians say that ill probally have to change schools and im going to flunk and all these things. No one but my boyfriend is on my side. This is a catholic school. What should I do…? And no, I am in no way lying and I tried to be as descriptive as possible to ensure a good answer. Please help me. I need to know if this is harrassment or something..?
The Expert answers:
What blew my mind was when you said your teacher tells students not to follow their dreams because they will crash and burn!! Bitter, much? Unfortunately, a lot of teachers HATE their jobs and their lives in general. I’ve had a lot of “gems” for teachers (I too was in a Catholic school grades K-3) in my day… And here’s the deal, I guess. Unfortunately, Catholic schools are going to be assholes about expressing ones self. I mean, they make everyone wear uniforms, you all have to believe in the same thing… It’s very oppressing and sad in my opinion. Someone with such an amazing talent and personality like yourself shouldnt have to go through this! At a public school, teachers are pretty laid back, in fact they almost go as far as to not even give two shits about students unless they’re jocks or preps. Vice principals will usually always be assholes, though. I was once given a Saturday detention for something that wasnt even my fault (long story but it ended with the girl’s mom actually serving the detention with me and the other people she got in trouble, haha) and when the VP asked me if I had ever had a detention before, I said, “no.” This was my senior year and she knew this. She smirked at me and said, “well, I think it’s good for ALL students to experience this.” WTF.
You say the study hall teacher just so happened to find this piece of paper in the trash… I find that very odd. Of course there was snooping going on, they’re assholes. It was in the trash, it wasnt on display or anything and even if it was, it’s a DRAWING!!! The unfortunate thing is, they will not negotiate with you in a Catholic school. What they say, goes. It sucks. My best advice to you would be to just talk to your guardians about the whole situation, and tell them your perspective. It’s all you can do. I know you’ll be nervous the whole time they’re at your school, but maybe if you try to explain to them passionately how you feel and what’s been going on, they will understand.
Sorry things cant be better for you. I wonder if you can convince your guardians to just transfer you to a public school. I think you might be a little happier there!
Lisa asks…
Why should I believe the government (that uses nuclear weapons and DU) when they say that they care…?
…about “carbon emissions” because it pollutes the planet and is bad for our health? But DUs and nuclear weapons are not bad for our health and the environment?
This is the same government that outsources American maufacturing jobs to the third world so that they can be pollute the land and air as much as they want and contaminate the food and water supplies, turning nice countries into toxic landfills. Some of these poisonous foods and goods come back to us as cheap imports. Why should I believe my government cares enough to mandate made-in-China, mercury, “dirty energy” cfls and are rationing and raising prices of tax paid water and power for my own and the “planet’s” best interest?
Dirty energy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CVLa_tRslY
The Expert answers:
As far as I am aware “your government” has only ever used 2 nuclear weapons, an no one who is still alive today could be blamed for that. You seem to be ignoring the fact that since Regan in the 80’s there has been a continuing effort to reduce the number of these weapons, this only stopped in the last 8 years when you had an idiot in the White house and a Russian Chuck Norris in the Kremlin. In the short period Obama has been in office reduction talks are back on the table again.
I think you will also find that it is private companies not the Government that is outsourcing American manufacturing jobs to China.
Cfl’s? Sorry that’s nonsense, I have seen first hand the machines used to recycle cfls, they are sealed units that crush and separate the materials, including the mercury. If we have such things in little old Australia, I find it hard to believe you don’t have them in the U.S.
You will find a good number of the stories about cfl’s track back to energy companies as although the savings are small per household wide spread use is actually going to cost power companies 10s of millions of dollars a year in lost profits when spread across an entire population like the U.S.
Ken asks…
Are they (the government) going too far?
In a nut shell, do they want to criminalize owning a garden? Will growing a vegetable garden become the new crime? Can someone point me to some additional facts on this?

Thanks for this link Tinman12. I found it very interesting indeed that Rosa DeLauro is married to Stanley Greenburg of Monsanto no less. Sounds like an inside job to me.
Big gov would just love to get their hands on the small farmers markets that are just pulling in the big bucks (tongue in cheek statement). What companies like Monsanto don’t want to see is the growing popularity of organic farming and the small 2-10 acre truck farms. People are sick and tired of buying fruits and vegetables that come from unknown countries.
I don’t advocate tobacco or smoking but it has been taxed out of existence. Why aren’t Twinkies or Ding Dongs taxed like tobacco? Too much of that kind of food will clog arteries thus leading to health problems too. Oops there I go…some congressman might read that statement and decide we need a Twinkie tax.
I’m glad that we have saved seeds for years and recycled them. We grow tomatoes that the seeds have been in the family for generations. It’s the same with our peppers and green beans.
We need to put a stop to this senseless kind of government. Monsanto wants nothing but huge factory farms supplying our food. I come from a long line of small farmers of which lived to ripe old ages. They grew their own livestock and food. They knew what they fed their animals and used natural, not chemical pest control on gardens.
I will be following this bill and writing my congressman to let him know how I feel about this.
Thanks
Richard asks…
why SHOULDN’T parents be held responsible for crimes committed by their children???
So far, I’ve come up with the fact that a minor can do community service in order for the parent NOT to be held responsible. Also, minors have somewhat the basic knowledge of right from wrong. What are other reasons why minors should be held responsible for their crimes instead of their parents?
The Expert answers:
THe juvenile should have to pay restitution and do community service. If there is a monetary restitution to be paid, the parents have to pay because the minor has no job or money.
If I were the parent, I would pay, then insist the bratty juvenile kid of mine would lose his allowance, take jobs like cutting grass, shoveling snow, washing cars…whatever, and turn the money over to me until he’s paid me back.
My son and one of his friends broke two windows at their elementary school – in the summer – throwing rocks. They were caught.
Each window was $150.00 to replace. My son had to apologize, in person, to the principle and dean of students and to the police officer that caught them. We paid for the new window to be put in. Then, my son’s allowance was terminated and he was required to cut grass, haul wood, recycle and other things – and give us all the money…until the $150.00 was paid in full back to us.
He was 10 years old……
His buddy’s parents just paid for a new window and grounded him for a week.
Interestingly enough, my son is 44 years old and that was his only brush with vandalism and the law. He grew into a fine adult. His friend has been in jail more times that I can count and has served 2 years in prison. He still lives at home with his parents when he’s not in jail.
It is important to hold kids responsible for their actions.
James asks…
Why are American consumer-sheep so convinced that computers are so ENVIRONMENTALL FRIENDLY compared to paper?
The UNU found that “The average 24 kg desktop computer with monitor requires at least 10 times its weight in fossil fuels and chemicals to manufacture, much more materials intensive than an automobile or refrigerator, which only require 1-2 times their weight in fossil fuels.”
Then take into account the damaged caused by producing the energy required to power the computer and the environment cost of those massive, hot, and power-hungry server farms that hold those emails you opted for over paper.
Now, will you continue to boast about your misguided attempts to make yourself feel better by being environmentally considerate? When’s the last time you recycled a computer? You recycle your paper products, at least, I hope.
I like how people agree with others out of ignorance and reluctance to accept the trut. You yanks are pituful.
WebFerret’s answer sounds nice, doesn’t it?
I love how he talks about what’s possible and legal rather than what’s actually practiced in reality.
Also, check your facts, you asscakes.
Even though a relatively small sever farm of 50,000 square feet will, in 24 hours, use about 57 oil barrels worth of energy (4 times more energy that the average American consumer-sheep’s house will in a year) he says there is no large energy demands for a server farm. That’s what I’m talking about. Weak.
@WebFerret:
Thank you for this sourceless discussion. I’m wary of posting links because yahoo censors out questions with links to some competitor’s sites, especially big news sites. If you are so serious about credibility, and you’re clearly not, you should be posting your own links are at the very least should be confirming that my figures are not fabricated.
ISP are just a small part of the equation. How many years have you been out of work? 50,000 is VERY small (RELATIVELY) now in 2012. Those big data centers you say are ‘close’ to the same size are twice to several times larger than a 50,000 sq ft one. Apple and Google should each have at least a single FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND sq ft (TEN TIMES) centers in NC alone. I’m aware of smaller 330,000 facilities in Oregon owned by apple. How is that close to 50,000? Like I said: Relatively small. Even the Google facility in NC is relatively small apparently. The QTS Data Center is nearly twice as big as google’s
The Expert answers:
Actually the argument made is the fact that a single personal computer can contain easily more information (equivalent to number of books) than an entire public library. Easily. So comparing the cost of creating a single computer does less damage to the environment than creating over half a million books and other print materials. (estimating 2 meg/novel) And that is just on a single hard drive. On a multiple hard drive system it becomes much more so. (Not including the storage space of storing the files on blue-ray/DVD/CD… Doing so could easily allow a home computer with a series of blue ray discs to store the entire written portion of the library of congress… Over 34.5 million books/printed materials.)
We are not even talking servers here. And the computer only uses power when it is on, when you go to call up the information.
Now I am not claiming that computers are not themselves environmentally friendly… Just that you need to look at sheer massive capabilities of the storage media involved. Compared with the amount of damage producing the same amount of works in print causes.
Mind you, I personally prefer the feel of an actual book when I am reading. Just wanting to keep the conversation accurate.
BTW a server farm is normally not that massive and power consumption wise uses not that much power. Computers comparatively use very little power to operate. The largest expenditure is actually for the monitor, which uses as much as a small TV.
And I am curious from when your study is from, the newer monitors are actually much less damaging to the environment. The worst part of a computer environmentally speaking is the battery/power supplies they use. And recycling a computer is very easy… First off one form is called upgrading (which is what most people do with their desktops) which allows the same case to be used over and over as you switch out part. Second, you actually have to recycle parts on most computers as it is illegal to put them in the trash in most countries. (There are special centers you normally have to send them too, as you will be fined if you just take them to the dump to throw away.)
Response to OP:
I am sorry but you have just proved you are full of BS on this. Let’s talk real numbers here then. (Some of us actually work with computers you know)
First off a “relatively small sever farm” is not 50,000 square feet, that is just BS. Average server room is only 10 x 10 to 20 x 20 square foot for a large nationwide company to handle all traffic. Heck even a large ISP (I used to work for one of the largest in the U.S. For years before I switched jobs) will not use a room anywhere near the size you are talking about.
… Editted to allow more space for later response…
You are playing a game by trying to use the numbers from large server farms and exaggerating them to try to prove a point that is false. The actual impact on the environment of a personal computer is less than that of the same amount of impact from replacing everything the computer is used for from paper generated equivalents.
And I love how you tried to put words in my mouth on my original post… I was using the specific information on a single computer and how it is more environmentally friendly and the amount of power used for it, not that of the power consumption of a server farm… And even that you got wrong.
Btw the only server farms that are even close to the sizes you were throwing out are ones for like google or the like… Ones that host literally hundreds of millions of websites at a time (you know using up less resources than an equivelent number of physical stores by uncounted times.) And there are litterally only a couple handful of those in the world. (Heck the number in the U.S. Alone could be counted on one hand. And the U.S. Has more than any other country on this.)
Reply to OP:
Apparently you do not read what people post… I stated the google one was one of the only ones the size you are claiming… And that there are only a handful that size in the U.S. Total. And that those centers service hundreds of MILLIONS of users each. Which doing a non computerized version of the same services would waste much much more resources. And even then the actual server rooms are a very very small portion of the buildings…. Most is office space. Due to heat issues you CANNOT fill rooms that big with servers… They will get cooked.
A Data center is NOT a server farm…. It is an office with a small percentage of the building having servers.
I still work in the industry (just not at that ISP)… And if you are going to keep trying to deflect the conversation and lying, I am going to say good day to you.

Going green tips =} what exactly is it?
So I have been reading a lot of people going green . So I thought I would give it a try so if any of ya have any great tips .that ya have done at home or even great web site that can help me understand more on going green .
The Expert answers:
Well you say recycle and people think taking there cans and plastics and putting them in different trash bins . But any time you have something and find a good practicle use for it then you are truly recycling . I needed to enclose my carport . Had the money to do it . But i used other materials to do it . Old siding left over and scrap wood . And news paper to insulate . In all i spent maby 40 bucks on a job that will take 400 . And i dont have to keep it that way . I dont just throw stuff out . If it brakes and i cant fix it . I strip it down . And use what i can . Then the rest goes to the bin . You see people running around with those T shirts that say going green but most of those are not made here to start with . And most are not made from recycled material . And the synthetics that are so good for the environment . Well guess what they are not . If you truly want to go green help push for hemp to be put back into Americas production. Then you can truly say you are in the interest of keeping the word green . If you dont know what hemp is look it up . It will not get you high . It is referred to in the bible as manna . And the only reason it is illegal today is due to Roman influence . It was made first illegal in Rome . You seen the movie 3000 . Well it was that war that prompted the Romans to make it illegal . It was a failed attempt to starve out the people into submission. And it was THE main product of food and manufacturing in the USA prior to the late 50s . Fords first car was built entirely from it and even the fuel and oil . It needs no pest asides or herb asides . It will grow in any part of American soil . In fact it will grow in almost any climate . It will shut down company’s like the ones that make round up . And many more . But it will open up more jobs than it will cost . And because we wont need those harmful chemicals the world will be better off . And as a bonus it is a natural insect replant . But thanks to our beloved goverment we are robed of it and forced to accept what they will allow .
David asks…
Why Indian Govt is hesistant to close Alang Ship yard, though the workers there are exposed to asbestosis?
Asbestosis is a form of lung infection(cancer kind) when workers deal with asbestos. It has been well established medically that asbestos kills.
All international Engineering constructions do not use asbestos.
Asbestos were used in ships in olden days, and now to destroy the ships, one has to remove the asbestos. Recently Ships from Europe were transported to India to Alang ship breaking yard and there was an international warning regarding asbestos in these ships.
There are even facts like a village of workers in Gujarat working in Alang yard have lost their lives to asbestosis and whole village has widows
Occasionally the news and warnings come in news papers and everyone forgets the whole issue.
Why is our Govt like this?
The Expert answers:
Alang is a census town in Bhavnagar district in the state of Gujarat, India. It is the leading centre of the worldwide ship breaking and recycling industry. Close to 99% of the materials from the ship are recycled.
“Safety is our motto” reads this welcome sign at Alang, a controversial statement. The shipyards at Alang recycle about 50% of the ships salvaged in the world. The yards are located on the Gulf of Khambat, 50 kilometres southeast of Bhavnagar. Visiting Westerners complain that before shipbreaking began there in June 1983 the beach at Alang was pristine and unspoiled. However, locals say that the work means the difference between an early death from starvation and a reasonably paid job by local standards with a steady income that can be used to support their families.
Large supertankers, car ferries and container ships are beached during high tide, and as the tide recedes, hundreds of manual laborers dismantle each ship, salvaging what they can, and reducing the rest into scrap. Tens of thousands of low-paid jobs are supported by this activity, and millions of tons of steel are recovered.
The salvage yards at Alang have generated controversy about working conditions, workers’ living conditions, and the impact on the environment. One major problem is that despite many serious work-related injuries, the nearest full service hospital is 50 kilometres away in Bhavnagar. Alang itself is served by a small Red Cross hospital which offers only limited services.
Almost one in every six workers could be suffering from an early stage of asbestosis and are at serious risk of contracting lung cancer, according to an expert committee set up by India’s Supreme Court.
A shipyard at Alang is possibly the model for the shipyard described in the Iain Banks novel, The Business (1999). A documentary on the industry in Alang entitled Shipbreakers was produced by Michael Kot in 2004.
A more modern and safer ship-breaking yard is located nearby at Pipavav.
In January 2006 Alang became the center of an international controversy when the Supreme Court of India temporarily prohibited the French ship Clemenceau from entering the port. [1]
[edit] Demographics
As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Alang had a population of 18,464. Males constitute 82% of the population and females 18%. Alang has an average literacy rate of 62%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 89% of the males and 11% of females literate. 7% of the population is under 6 years of age.

can i be a catholic and believe in reincarnation?
because i believe in reincarnation – that most souls/spirits are “recycled” lol. like say my great great (+20) grandfather look almost liked me… and to this day, i am living his soul. you know what i mean? i just believe in reincarnation based on family tree / ancestors.
so is it ok i’m a catholic but believes in reincarnation?
ohh.. ok… noo it was my way of thinking.. i generlly dont ‘believe’ in it.. i just think of it… lol sorry for the misunderstanding… but i guess i have to believe the bible, if its in it, then its true.
The Expert answers:
From the beginning Judaism has traditionally accepted reincarnation as fact: “Behold, all these things does God do — twice, even three times with a man — to bring his soul back from the pit that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.” (Job 33:29)
There are numerous biblical reference for reincarnation. Besides the most obvious (Truly, literally, you must be born again… No one goes up to heaven but he who came down from heaven), there is “Who sinned, THIS MAN or his parents, that he was BORN BLIND?” which is a clear indication that past-life karma was accepted as real by his disciples. Jesus did not correct them, because according to historical fact, Jesus believed in reincarnation and karma.
According to the bible Jesus’s answer was that the man was born blind so that he could be healed by him. Now it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that this answer applied to only this particular blind man whose path crossed that of Jesus.
The old standby “it is appointed that man dies once and then face judgment” makes no sense as an argument against reincarnation. Reincarnationists do not believe that “the man” returns after death. Reincarnationists know that it is the spiritual energy of man that returns to inhabit a new “man” (new body). Jews knew that; Jesus knew that. You have to wonder what do the critics think survives death to “face judgment”? The “soul” of course. And it is the “soul” that reincarnates, not “the man.”
This judgment is Judaism’s Gehenna, the original biblical concept of after-death residence of souls, where the soul of the individual faces and contemplates his past life, the mistakes he made, the good things he did, the things he achieved and did not achieve. It is a place of judgment and introspection, which is completed before the individual moves on.
Reincarnationists (at least those not bound by the superstitions of eastern dogma) believe that the dynamic of reincarnation is free will (yours and those around you) and that we learn by the choices we make and in contemplating the choices we have made.
“Be ye therefore perfect even as your father in heaven is perfect,” Jesus instructed his followers. He didn’t say ‘hey, do your best,’ or ‘if you just believe I existed that’s enough…’ He said BE AS PERFECT AS GOD IS. Jesus indicated, according to the bible, that absolute perfection is within the reach of every human when he made the statement, YE ARE GODS.
Anyone with a functioning mind should be able to comprehend that perfection and godliness cannot be attained in a single lifetime.
Early Christianity fully embraced the truth of reincarnation. The emperor Constantine fashioned a type of Christianity to suit his purposes, which included conquering all he considered his enemies. He redesigned the concept of Jesus as a type of soldier figurehead who would help him gain greater military powers and defeat his enemies, claiming to have had visions of that sort. Although Constantine’s Christian bishops refused to accept this new, revised Christianity, the emperor had his way through brute force and established the corrupted Christian church we have today. All this is *factual history* which can’t be denied other than by manipulating the truth.
Christian Gnostics were all reincarnationists. History scholars not poisoned by church revisionists consider Gnostics to have been the descendants of the original Christians who were grossly slandered and later persecuted by corrupted Christianity. Gnostics were the true inheritors of the teachings of Jesus. One of these teachings was the secret doctrine Jesus referred to in Mark (4:11 and 4:33-34) – see “source” below.
The bible records only the parables, not the secrets of the “mysteries”.
“Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables.”
“And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it. But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.”

Is it illegal to take aluminum cans to California basically importtyem my uncle has a recycling business but they buy it here for like $1.20 lbs and in Cali it’s like$3.50 so is it illegal or where can I call and ask
So I made some phone calls to California and they said it is illegal to claim the deposit for the cans that were issued out of California and it’s legal to bring in cans from out of states will the recycling business buy they is soly up to them because they would loose money since they’re worth less for example we buy them Here for 1.20 and in Cali 1.80 so they loose 60 cents per pund but my uncle is still going to try with his own risk
The Expert answers:
It’s illegal to take Arizona cans to California and claim California deposit reimbursement.
It’s not illegal to take Arizona cans to California and claim regular scrap value reimbursement, which is signigicantly less than $3.50.
Every once in a while you’ll hear of some people who have been arrested for bringing out of state cans to California:

Recycling for money!?
I know they pay for aluminum cans, but will recycling centers pay for any other materials (plastic, paper, etc)? My cousin told me they buy tin, but only like a few cents a ton so its not worth it.
I have also heard of places that will buy used clothing–and I don’t mean consignment shops or those ones that buy kids or name brand clothing only… Does anyone know anything about that?
Thanks! I’m trying to make some quick money. My uncle just made almost 400 dollars selling aluminum cans and I already have a few bags full. LOL!
The Expert answers:
There are also places that will pay you for plastic water bottles and plastic soda bottles. (at least in California!!)
Also metals can be recycled but there is a big problem because of that with some metal objects being stolen!
Good luck!
Robert asks…
CRV? (California Refund Value)?
Where do I take my recycles to?
What can I recycle? (Cardboard? Paper? Plastic? Glass? Or what?)
The Expert answers:
CRV means California redemption value. Any thing you buy that is marked CA CRV you will get paid money for returning them to a recycling center. These can be found in your local phone book under Recycling . Most of the CRV are things like soda bottles beer bottles or cans and some plastic drink containers. This is because when you buy them you are charged a few cents per CRV item, so you are really just getting back what you paid. Other things can be recycled such as plastic, paper, and glass not marked CRV at a recycle center marked for these kinds of recycling items. Sometimes you can recycle them at the same center other times not. What ever your reason is for recycling, its great for the environment and I have been doing it for years. You can get more info about all that can be recycled from the recycling center itself. The people are very helpful.

Ideas? Recycling?
What neat ideas do you have to cut down on the amount of household wastage? Have you come up with any little tricky ways of recycling things in your home?
Here are a few i thought of….
Gardening Pillows……Use those plastic bags you inevitably end up bringing home when you forget to take your cloth ones shopping by stuffing an old pillow case full of them ( overstuffing works best) and stich it shut…this creates ideal pillows to cushion your knees when working in the garden.
Old records….place the record atop a heat proof bowl and heat at full in the oven, the record will melt and create a cool bowl for any use..( under pot plants, fruit bowl, etc..)
Paper….pulp and set in brick molds use in the fireplace….
Wogga Rugs…use old woolen clothes to make big thick blankets( 2-3) layers all darned together and put in doona cover…
Rag mats…
I have heaps more..if you are interested email me…
Can you share anything you do?
Thanking you!
The Expert answers:
I do all the usuals. I also pick up garbage when I walk my dog, and I make sure my husband and son don’t throw away anything in the garbage if it cand be recycles. I teach my adult ESL students the word “recycle” right away, we recycle in the classroom, I am proactive in stores, teaching anyone who will listen to look for the little triangle on the bottom of bottles of soaps and prescription bottles, etc, because that means it is recyclable (it is amazing how many people don’t know that), I guess my main thing, other than the usual active recycling, is being a teacher. I can’t help it, I talk a lot when it is something important!
Great Question sis! BB, LM )0(
Donna asks…
Do you really take recycling seriously?
I have watched so many programs on the Discovery channel, the History channel etc… that talk about how bad the Earth is right now with garbage everywhere. Just watched a documentry on how the oceans are full of plastics and how fish, birds and other animals are dying by consuming these man made materials…
The Expert answers:
<>
The yellow sack in the cellar is for all rubbish that could be recycled by that particular system available here in Germany, all paper goes into the blue bin outside the front door, old batteries collect up in a carrier bag in the kitchen, and easily biodegradable waste goes into the compost heap in the garden. Oh, and non-deposit glass jars go into the carrier bag hanging on the bannisters.
I wouldn’t say I take it seriously, but I try to be organized. Other bits of garbage get sold at flea markets.

Nancy asks…
Tips on how to recycle and what you can recycle in your house?
The Expert answers:
How I recycle is when I go to the supermarket, I normally use paper bags, (since I have no use for the plastic ones). What I do is I use the paper bags as a recycle for my paper goods inside my house. When It gets full, I bring it to my recycling bins in the garage. For the glass and plastic, I have a old Clementine box that sits on my counter. When I use a can of corn or beans or something, I put it in there. It works till it breaks. However, I put soda bottles in a garbage bag and use them for a deposit or give them to bottle drives. You can recycle many things, but as you see I reuse the paper bags and Clementine box. When you see a triangle on the plastic, look at it and if it looks like a 1 or 2, it can be recycled. Turn off lights when you aren’t using them to reduce Global Warming. You can create a compost in your yard to make fertile soil for your outdoor plants. Put corn husks in there, pumpkins, leaves, dead plants, anything that can be broken down that’s a plant thing.
Here’s a list of some things you can recycle: soda cans, beer cans, newspapers, spare scrap paper, cans, wine bottles, cardboard, magazines, catalogs, white pages from the phone book, white envelopes, shampoos, detergent bottles and aerosol cans. To find out more you should call your local recycling plant.
It’s very hard to start recycling, and I’m glad you are willing to try.
William asks…
how does recycling help stop global warming?
i recycle but i dont understand how it helps stop global warming. is there anything else i can do to help? thanks 🙂
The Expert answers:
Wow, how does recycling help? Let me count the ways. First, understand that the various types of ‘hot’ gases that are heating up the planet include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, etc. These gases create higher temperatures, as they emit more energy than simple oxygen or nitrogen and they harm our protective ozone layer that keeps much of the sun’s heat and harmful radiation from the surface of the planet…this is a more detailed discussion for another day. So here are some basic benefits of recycling:
1. It reduces the required amount of new natural resources which includes reduced mining for metals, plastic materials, etc.
2. By needing less natural resources, less earth need be harmed by digging these materials out of the ground
3. With fewer raw materials needed, there is less strain on the environment from the refining of these raw materials
4. Recycling also reduces the amount of ‘stuff’ in landfills
5. Plastic is very difficult for the mother nature to recycle and it takes a very, very long time to breakdown a single plastic bottle
6. By reducing landfill waste, methane gas is also reduced, as methane gas is actually far worse for the environment than CO or CO2
7. In areas where garbage is shipped by water to their final destination, there is pollution from the transport of this garbage as well as a significant amount of trash that miraculously ends up in the ocean. This has had a terrible impact on wildlife even on the other side of the ocean–think birds choking to death on bottle caps, fishing line, and variety of other recyclable trash..typically plastics
….And the list goes on and on
The bottom line with recycling is 1) less energy is used, 2) fewer natural resources are used, and 3) it reduces the impact on the environment..whether it be reducing landfills in number/size or in helping to avoid unwittingly killing wildlife, recycling is a very good thing.
The best things you can do are as follows:
1. Use cloth bags for your groceries. Find them online or at your local grocer (some grocers offer them for a miniscule fee of $.25 or $.50 whereas retailers charge as much as $100 for designer labels)
2. Avoid using bottled water. Buy yourself a few nice containers for your water at work, gym, etc. And use your preferred type of water filtration system (clear2o, Brita, etc.)
3. Always recycle your plastics, metals, etc.
4. This is often overlooked, but nevertheless a big problem…recycle your electronics. These items have all kinds of poisonous heavy metals that leech into the groundwater
5. Methane gas is a real problem, to reduce these harmful emissions and to speed the natural process of decomposition, get a composter at http://www.naturemill.com/index.html. This is a very cool little piece of recycling equipment that actually turns out terrific potting soil.
If you follow these suggestions, you should have a bin for plastics, metals, electronics, and a composter for your organic material. This is about as green a setup as you can get without going way over the top. Hope this was helpful.
Sharon asks…
Do you put out more than your neighbor?
for the garbage man to pick up? How many bags does your family average per week?
The Expert answers:
I recycle everything I can…so usually only one bag!
Lizzie asks…
Can you recycle in Australia?
I was in Oz this summer (Melbourne and Sydney) and the only recycling bins I could find (for plastic, cardboard and paper) were in our hostel! Is there no recycling programs? Do households have recycling bins? Or is the trash sorted?
Hi everyone,
Thanks for all your answers, I never knew all that! =D
I suppose it was just a confusion for our group of travellers, since we didn’t see any recycling bins in public in both cities; but I’m so glad to hear the Aussies recycle. Oy Oy Oy!
The Expert answers:
We have three garbage bins in NSW.
A green one for your garden refuse, like lawn clippings, branches, etc.
A red one for every day trash, food scraps, plastic bags, pizza boxes, etc.
A yellow one for recycling, paper, cardboard, milk cartons, plastic bottles, etc all things recycling.
Many individuals in suburban areas have worm farms or compost heaps as well.
Household appliances such as lounge suites, fridges, etc can also be picked up by council and recycled. Usually leaving them on the front lawn for a week with a for sale sign will see them disappear over night.
We have charity bins for recycling clothing. We also have charity stores where you can take appliances and furniture for donations as well.
We have planet ark which is used for recycling old xmas and birthday cards.
We have bins at the supermarket for recycling our used shopping bags, we have also introduced calico bags for shopping as well which are growing in popularity.
Donald asks…
Why is it important to recycle?
Why is it important to recycle?
The Expert answers:
Why is it important to recycle? That’s a great question!
1) Recycling allows us to, in a sense, re use what we own. So if you can’t think of a cool art project to make tht old paper towel roll into, then throw it into your reclying bin.
2) So then it allows recycled material to be made into other things we need. Like tote bags, or some shirts, and other things like that.
3)Also, it’s important to recycle because it makes things NOT go into the landfills. Landfills is where all your old garbage goes to.
4) So here are some things you can recycle: Pop cans, any card board, WATER BOTTLES (or just stop using them ever), and paper in generial. Check what your local dump or recycling center will accept. Also another good thing you can do is donate old clothes to places like Goodwill, that’s just a different form of recycling.
But dont’ forget, there is two other things in the triangle. Make sure to reduce, and reuse. We’re trying to keep as many things out of the landfills as possible.

Where do I get a recycling bin?
I’m all for recycling and at our house we recycle cans and bottles by going down to walmart but how do I recycle paper and plastic bottles at my own house? Where do I get those blue recycling bins and once I get one, do I just put it on the curb and somebody automatically recycles it for me? Or is it part of my trash pick up?
Thanks

You can get one from your local shire. They’re always free of charge.
A trash bin is used just like your regular rubbish bin. Where the rubbish bin goes is where the recycling bin goes.

David asks…
Computer Recycle bin.?
I threw out Skype because it seems to slow down the computer,
and when I wanted Skype again I could not find it in the Recycle Bin ?
Any suggestions ?
The Expert answers:
IF you simply disable and deleted the Skype icon on the desktop, it will go to the recycle bin, however, finding it won’t be possible when you emptied the recycle bin just after deleting it. But if you uninstaller it, it is not possible to recover it except using windows’ system restore. But if you like a faster and easier way to get it back is just to download it again and install it.
John asks…
Where do the files go after you empty the recycle bin?
Just curious of where the files go after you empty the recycle bin.
The Expert answers:
Actually, what you think of as files are actually pointers to segments in your memory containing the information within the file.
In other words, when you see “Mydocument.doc,” this “file” is being pointed to by the icon. In the memory, it is a set of binary data: 01001011001010 and so forth. When an item is “deleted” and sent to the recycle bin, the binary remains on the hard disk. Even when the recycle bin is emptied, the binary stays on your hard drive until it is replaced by something else. Files emptied from the recycle bin can be recovered because of this. The only way to completely delete a file is to use a file shredding program, which not only deletes the pointer to the file, but it also sets the values in that file to all equal zero.
Richard asks…
i deleted my recycle bin on my desktop?
i empty my recycle bin yesterday and i must have deleted the bin itself on accident. how do i get it back?
i know that you can delete a short cut, thats what i’m using as of right now. i did a search for it and it didnt come up with anything
The Expert answers:
Here’s how to fix it. Right click on the desktop-click personalize-on the left side of the menu under Tasks click Change desktop icons-the Desktop Icon Settings box will pop up, under desktop icons put a check mark in the Recycle Bin box, click Apply-click Ok. That should fix it. A lot simpler than using System Restore.
For the next option, go down to your taskbar and right click in any open space. From the menu that pops up, click on Toolbars, Desktop. The word “Desktop” will then appear at the end of your taskbar with a double arrow beside it. Right click on those arrows and you will see an option for the Recycle Bin. Next, drag and drop that Recycle Bin icon to your desktop. That should reinstate your icon for you, but if you’re still having trouble, try this. Right click on your taskbar again and go to Toolbars, New Toolbar. There should be an option there for the Recycle Bin as well. You can then drag and drop that icon to your desktop. Doing either of these three things should bring your Recycle Bin icon back and you can get on with your daily computing!

Lizzie asks…
Do you recycle?
If so, what items do you normally recycle? I have always recycled cans and bottles, but I am really wanting to start recycling any items that are recyclable.
The Expert answers:
Basically most recycle facilities recycle by number… There is triangle on the container and most places can handle number 1 or 2 plastics. Look for your number “before” you buy so you’ll know that you can recycle.
The whole key minimizing impact is to stop buying single use items. Only buy things that you can recycle or reuse! If your facilities don’t recycle what your store sells, complain to the store and the manufacturer and don’t buy it. Take responsibility for the item from purchase to reuse or recycle.
Checking out your local facility by phone and inquire which recycle numbers that they handle… Also ask about motor oils, special days for small appliances, computers and especially how to handle small batteries and old batteries and tires.
They should have flat box recycle and newspaper, magazine, clear, green etc which you are likely familiar with. It’s very unfortunate that fast food places use Number 5 and such because many places cannot recycle those.
Place large appliances like stoves in the local free-cycles because people make a living collecting scrap metal and you will just make their day with one of these! Let these people take your cans while you are at it since that means less time to recycle facility for you and more for the scrap metal guy!
There may also be a free-cycle outdoor wood burner guy or gal who will take any and all scrap wood to heat his home and water.
Free-cycle as much as you can! Shop at Goodwill for nice long lasting durable items… I just bought a nice percolator (now back in style) for like $3! I added a GE switch to the plug end (for like less than $3) it becomes just like a $50 machine!
Recycle clothes at Goodwill and also buy there, quality stuff… Those old styles just keep coming back and no one will be able to buy an outfit like it.. How’s that for fashion!
We go to the recycle place to obtain newspapers and paper FROM the recycle place for our farm. We also grab newspaper coupons which we promptly give away to the local coupon swap.
We have a small farm of quail within the city and our dogs eat just about any and all of the unusable waste from the farm… Quail poop? We use all our leaves for quail bedding which is then composted with other non-edible table scraps.
What goes to the curb at my house and farm is the newspaper that lines the dog shed and the related dog poop conveniently wrapped in the paper bags that the quail feed comes in. I save the string on the bags for craft projects.
Payment for trash pickup in the city is mandatory.
Jars we get from “free” coupon or very cheap offers are used to sell home-made feed or home-made all quail meat dog and cat food to our customers.
We recycle/reuse rain water for the garden and use our personal wash water for first rinse on quail pens and equipment.
Laundry soap containers? I make my own laundry soap in a reusable 5 gallon drywall compound bucket… If I get a coupon for “free” laundry soap, I save the empty container and refill with my own laundry soap to sell to customers inquiring at the farmers market.
Many cans are cleaned and reused to hold feed and depending on what was in it.. Water for chickens etc.
Unrecyclable plastic wrap and wax paper, etc can go to our local cheese maker every week at the market who has an outdoor furnace that triple cycles the plastic burn gas until barely anything but water and carbon and heat for hot water comes from the outdoor burner.
Chris asks…
How does recycling help the environment?
What does recycling do to help?
The Expert answers:
Recycling helps in lots of ways that might surprise you. Aluminum cans for example, are made from ore that is mined in large open pit or strip mines. The overburden from the ore deposit is stripped off and stored so it can be replaced, but it still disturbs the hydrology, the biological organisms that lived there, and takes decades to recover even if restored properly.
Aluminum smelting is one of the most energy intensive refining operations that exists. Refining aluminum takes large quantities of energy, typically from fossil fuels.
Recycling aluminum saves or reduces these impacts, besides saving a non-biodregable material from filling up the landfill. Recycling all other metals has a similar benefit.
Recycling glass has a similar energy benefit. Each tonne of glass recycled saves about 315 kg of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere from refining operations.
Recycling paper saves forests, but it also saves electricity, water, and air pollution. Recycled paper takes between 28-70% less energy than making new paper. Contrary to what some believe, recycled paper is not re-bleached and when it is less hazardous forms of oxygen are used instead of chlorine, which reduces the amount of pollutants like dioxins created by paper manufacuture.
Plastic manufacturing uses about 8 percent of the world’s oil consumption. Recycling that reduces oil consumption, energy consumption, reduces landfill space, and reduces several air pollutants like sulphur dioxide. Recycled plastics can be used in clothing, construction materials, and various other applications.

Does your community recycle?
Does your school recycle? Do the beaches you go to have recycling bins? How about your favorite mall? Do you recycle scraps of paper at home, or just the plastic bottles?
The Expert answers:
Does your school recycle? 40% of people recycle paper 0% of people recycle other stuff
Do the beaches you go to have recycling bins? No
How about your favorite mall? Only in the food court but hardly anyone uses the recycle bin but me
Do you recycle scraps of paper at home, or just the plastic bottles? I Try to recycle everything recyclable. I even take stuff home just to recycle. I don’t know why I do this.
Donald asks…
Do you recycle?
do you recycle, why or why not?
The Expert answers:
I recycle.
It’s kind of the way i was raised.
I don’t look at something with the little recycle sign on it as garbage, i look at it as a recycable.
It’s kind of my upbringing really.
Throwing a plastic bottle in the garbage can stays on the concious for a few hours.
Then again, i really feel like i’m helping out.
I’m starting to get a little extreme with my recycling now,
but if people could just throw the stuff into the recycle bin instead of the garbage,
i feel there’d be that much less waste produced.
Laura asks…

My friend told me that Americans are really bad at recycling but I think she made it up. So would all homes have like a recycling bin and a normal bin?
And would many people own compost heaps?
Would there be recycling facilities in schools and workplaces?
Thanks 🙂
The Expert answers:
Yes, we definitely recycle. My family has a regular trash bin and a recycling trash bin. We reuse all our water bottles as much as we can and then recycle them. Most of our store-bought food containers have recycling symbols on the bottom and if they do, we throw them into the recycle bin. My school also has a recycling bin. I went to Ireland recently where they were pretty big on recycling and America isn’t as into recycling as Ireland is but we do care about it and we definitely recycle.
Jenny asks…
Recycling?
It is my understanding that now almost anything can be recycled including food waste which can be composted. So my question is this, is there anything which it is impossible to recycle?
Thanks.
The Expert answers:
Actually, a LOT cannot be recycled, and in the case of things that can be recycled, it’s simply not feasible in many places.
For example, many plastics (like the ones with the higher recycling numbers on the bottom of the product) are not recyclable with the technology we have now. Others are recyclable, but only with certain (sometimes expensive) technologies. And still others (like pop bottles we all recycle) can only be recycled once before the plastic cannot be converted again.
In other cases, some things are just too complicated to pull apart to be recycled. A car, for example, has a ton of metal, plastic, fabric and various other chemicals that cannot be separated from each other to be recycled.
But don’t be discouraged. A lot of materials, like paper products, aluminum and glass, are easily recyclable, sometimes indefinitely. And companies are working on the technology to make more and more things recyclable.
Lastly, there’s a reason “reduce” and “reuse” come before “recycle.” Make less waste and reuse what you have before you turn to recycling.
Mandy asks…
Environmental impact on recycling?
What is environmental impact and economic and social issues of recycling?
The Expert answers:
The act of recycling itself needs energy. Just think, machines need energy to run itself. The energy required to process material into a new material varies depending on your starting material.
And even though for the average consumer the process of recycling does not have any direct costs, think about the companies that have to invest in recycling methods. Recycling is VERY costly and for companies this is a strong reason they refuse to recycle.
Even though you did not ask this, I must say that I believe recycling is a good idea. There needs to be more direct funds invested to the research of recycling systems, waste-to-energy methods, and sustainable design. More research into the process will lower costs and environmental impacts of recycling. It is the same idea about computers–which were initially ridiculously expensive relative to the wealth of the common man when they first came out but now can be seen as reasonable in our day and age.
Mark asks…
What kinds of recycling are there?
Just give me as many different kinds you can think of
ie: cellphone battery recycling, printer cartridge recycling

Helen asks…
Recycle. All you know, please.?
Please… Help!.
Can anybody teach me about recycling?.
– Numbers under the bottles
– Boxes, etc.
What Exactly can be recycled?.
Thank You very much.
The Expert answers:
Recycling takes materials from the “waste stream” (things on the way to garbage dumps) and puts them back into the “manufacturing stream” (things that will be sued to make consumer products).
What you can recycle depends on your area. For example, my state has deposits on soda bottles and cans. You can get your deposits back by going to the supermarket with your cans and bottles and putting them into a machine that readies them for transportation to a recycling center. In addition, my town has curbside recyclable pick up, which means that once a week, a truck comes by to pick up my paper, cardboard, tin cans, water bottles, etc. If these options aren’t available to you, then you should look for a nearby recycling center and see what they take; many will give you some money for your recyclables.
Paper and cardboard can both be recycled. Watch out: Paper plates, napkins, tissues, or anything else that involves food or bodily fluids cannot be recycled.
The numbers for plastics indicate the type of the plastic. Simply put, #1 plastic can only be recycled with other #1 plastics. Many places will accept #1 – #3 (the most common plastics) together and sort them themselves.
Most metals are recyclable. Just like plastics, recyclers need to avoid mixing them together. Mixing alloys (of steel, for example) leads to a weaker product. It is important to try and recycle metals. For one thing, metals can be toxic if they leak from dumps into water supplies. Additionally, it usually takes half as much energy to recycle metal as it does to produce new metal.
Rubber tires can be recycled. They can be turned into asphalt or even playground substrate (the stuff you walk on).
Electronics should all be recycled. They contain some very valuable metals and often have very toxic components. (These toxic components can leak from dumps into our water supply; it is actually illegal to send these toxins to dumps). Most computer and computer accessory (like printers or music players) manufacturers have free recycling through their websites. It is also easy to find recycling for cell phones and batteries (both rechargable and alkaline).
Of course, don’t forget the other two R’s: Reduce and Reuse. Reuse is just as good as Recycling (since they’re the same thing in the end).

Charles asks…
Global warming changes bad for the US?
How can instituting any of the following changes possibly adversely effect the US?
Reduce oil and fuel consumption in our homes and cars.
Reduce traffic on the road by car pooling.
Reduce cars on the road by replacing them with bikes and scooters.
Recycle everything that can be.
Use less energy in our homes, lights, electronics.
Waste less water, plant more natural ground cover (strawberries for example) instead of grass.
Stop cutting down forests and instead create tree farms.
Restore old lands and structures instead of developing new ones.
Lessen the urban sprawl and build higher structures.
Eliminate inefficient street lighting and install efficient and subdued street lighting (hooded, pointing toward the ground)
Plant and harvest our own gardens and crops.
Establish more preserved wildlife parks (widen boundaries and create new ones).
Create incentives for every home to use Solar energy and wind power.
*I want honest and thought out answers* – Do not troll.
The Expert answers:
I totally agree with you. There is no way that conserving and reducing waste can possibly be bad for the Earth, living creatures and plants.
I would say that the government should require businesses that have parking lots to build garages if they will have more than one hundred cars parked in their lot. That would greatly reduce the sprawl of malls and even the local shopping centers. It would also reduce the amount of land a business would have to buy to build on, which would in the end increase their profits by reducing property taxes.
Gary said that the suits would lose money, but in fact they will do exactly the opposite. Most companies do not look at the savings in paper costs by not printing every document and the reduced mail cost by using email. They also do not count the reduced energy costs by efficiencies. It was corporations that first converted to fluorescent lights because they use less energy.
Take care,
Troy

Susan asks…
can u please help me make one title please???????????
my essay is about Pollution in California…
i thought one title (tell me if its good please)
—Title—–>>>-Pollution – The Worst Killer of the Human Race
—>or should i say serial killer
i dont know please help me
thank you in advance
—incase u wanna see my essay here it is
In recent years, pollution in California has increased due to the lack of environmental awareness as well as the lack of citizens commitment to protect our natural resources. There are many reasons that people create pollution. Also, it is easy to see that pollution is increasing day by day and not many people is doing anything about it. Moreover, Only humans can try to lower down the pollution, however most of them are not willing to do anything about it.
The citizen’s of California generally aren’t aware that they are creating soil pollution by dumping their waste where they are not supposed to. Soil pollution usually results from different human activities, such as waste dumping, use of agrochemicals, mining operations and urbanization. Californians waste more stuff than they actually use, as a result, people create soil pollution. For examples, people use a lot of pest-killing chemicals, like fumigants, but they do not know that too much of these chemicals can make their land polluted. Additionally, soil pollution can cause some very serious problems. People often developed coughing, wheezing, muscle aches, and headaches because of the chemicals they are using. Also, respiratory and other health problems, such as asthma and disruption of menstrual cycles are the most dangerous disease that people can have from soil pollution. As a result, by putting limits on chemicals, lands can be secure, and numbers of people getting sick and even dying can be lessened.
Ocean pollution is a major problem that is affecting the ocean and California, too. Nowadays, people dump much of their waste into the water. Oil spills, toxic wastes, and dumping of other harmful materials are all major sources of pollution in the ocean. Sewage as well as domestic and farm wastes often to pollute rivers and dams. Moreover, ocean pollution causes a great deal of health problems. Pollution in the ocean directly affects ocean organisms and indirectly affects human health and resources. Some of the leaked gases, for example leaked Nerve gas in the ocean, are the most dangerous because it kills everyone that comes in contact with it. Consequently, people should learn more about the ocean pollution because if they are more informed about the pollution in the ocean, then they will more know how to stop the pollution
In a California that is becoming increasingly industrialized, and also where more people can afford to drive cars, air pollution is becoming a larger problem. Air pollution is the major concern that people need to be aware of. Vehicles are the main sources for polluting the environment. The older cars get, the more pollution they create than the new ones. Other man-made source that creates pollution are industries. Furthermore, diseases are also transmitted through the air in pollution. Respiratory problems, cancer, heart problems, asthma symptoms, and allergy symptoms are very usual and scientifically established result of air pollution. Children and elderly people catch those diseases very quickly. This can be very annoying and dangerous to some people. Therefore, California needs to enforce stricter regulation, otherwise air pollution will become an uncontrollable problem followed by many risks that could potentially threaten humans.
In conclusion, Pollutions can lead all the living species to very hazardous situation. People should recycle all the stuff that is not needed. Also, reusing and reducing can be very helpful. Finally, pollution is unstoppable and unpreventable, but at least people can do is lessen its affects by knowing more about the pollution. People should ask themselves that what consequences they have to live with in the future if the pollution get out of their hands.

Who is the suspect…….
Maria asks…
Poll: which of the following would you be willing to do to prevent GLOBAL WARMING?
Energy is produced to generate electricity and to keep us warm. Most energy is produced by the burning of fossil fuels, like coal, oil and gas, which release carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Fuel burnt in our cars also releases carbon dioxide.
As an individual, you have little control on how your energy is produced. However, you can control the way in which you use that energy. Using less energy means less needs to be produced. Hence less carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere.
There are a number of ways that you can help to save energy in your home:
Say no to plastic bottles, etc… as much as possible.
Air dry your clothes. I live in Mexico sometimes, and yes it does not hurt to do this!
Turn off lights and appliances when they are not needed;
Re-insulate your walls and lofts, or eventually pay someone to do this.
Have a shower instead of a bath;
Fit double glazing;
Turn your heating down. (Turning it down by 1°C saves 10% on energy bills.)
Are you willing to advertize or find at least 2 other people to carpool with for the next 5 to 10 years? Yea or ne?
Eventually….. I know this is hard but eventually Buy a Hybrid Car
The average driver could save 16,000 lbs. of CO2 and $3,750 per year driving a hybrid
At present in the UK we produce 16 million tonnes of household rubbish a year. 90% of this waste is dumped into landfill sites. Landfill waste produces the second most important greenhouse gas, which is methane. If we can recycle more of this waste, the need to mine raw materials will decrease and less waste will need to be buried as landfill.
Road transport is the fastest growing sector in the UK. A quarter of carbon dioxide emissions comes from road transport. By using public transport, and by cycling and walking more, we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released by our cars.

I’m going to talk about it to the principle and ask if we can do a relay for life sorta’ thing, ya know? So i can fund for the bins. Good luck & peace<3
Sharon asks…
for 10 points could you please reword this?
When you recycle you are breaking down the materials of a used product and using those materials to make something new. Recycling is important because it:
Conservation of non-renewable fossil fuels – Plastic production uses 8% of the world’s oil production, 4% as feedstock and 4% during manufacture.
Reduced consumption of energy.
Reduced amounts of solid waste going to landfill.
Reduced emissions of carbon-dioxide (CO2), nitrogen-oxide (NO) and sulphur-dioxide (SO2).
Saves energy.
Conserves natural resources.
Prolongs the life of resources made from the first product.
Reduces the amount of waste being sent to landfill.
The Expert answers:
Recycling is important for many reasons.
Recycling saves energy conserves natuaral resources and prolongs the life of resources made from the first product
When you recycle you are breaking down the materials of a used product and using those materials to make something new by which
reduces amounts of solid waste going to landfilss and the total waste being sent to the landfill.
Plasitc production uses 4 as feedstock 4 during manufacture 8 of the worlds oil production which leads to conservation of non renewable fossile fuels
Recycling also leads to reduced emissions of carbon dioxide co2 nitrogen oxide no and sulphur dixide so2
All of which save energy

Your Questions About Recycling

Mandy asks…
Why do some recycling centers ask you to remove the caps off the plastic bottles and others do not ?
The Expert answers:
The ones that leave the cap on probably are just burnt in an incinerator. Having generally the same product (plastic) makes it more efficient. People often throw all kinds of crap in recycling collection sites. The product needs to be really clean for it to be worth the effort to recycle it into new, quality materials. Not enough people care enough to recycle correctly so it all can be reused.
Betty asks…
Where are some recycling centers in Colorado where you can get paid?
Preferably grocery stores with places where you can get a receipt for the amount of cans you put in, but anything is ok
The Expert answers:
Go to www.earth911.com to find local recycle centers.
James asks…
How Much Do Recycling centers give you for can openers?
I mean those little things things that you have too pull so that it can ope cans?(:
The Expert answers:
Recycling centers give you nothing.
Scrap yards give you about $0.50 per pound.
Nancy asks…
What recycling centers are there in New Mexico that recycle glass?

Just enter in your zip code and the material you have to recycle. The site will then give you a list of the closest recyclers near you.
Michael asks…
Are then any recycling centers that will pay you for old newspapers in New York City?
I have a ton.
The Expert answers:
No, NYC won’t pay you to recycle any of your stuff. It’s actually the law out here that you recycle. If you don’t, you get a fine when they throw your trash out.
Charles asks…
What is the best way to find the recycling centers where you can recycle bottles and cans and get money back?
The Expert answers:
You can check for those sites in the yellow pages of your area. It’s a good way to save the environment. Good luck!!
Maria asks…
How profitable are recycling centers?
I am thinking of opening one (and may I add this just ocurred to me recently) because aside from opening a business that is profitable the idea of having a positive impact on our environment appeals to me, however I have no idea wether it would be a sound investement.
The Expert answers:
It would be a credit to the environment but there are a lot of headaches with business and I wouldn’t open one.
Daniel asks…

Jobs on Bins (refuse/recycling collection)?

David asks…
What are some examples of Green Jobs and how do they help our environment?
I am researching environmental issues around the world and would like some more information on green jobs.
The Expert answers:
Waste disposal is one of the biggest green jobs out there and consists of more than removal of household refuse. It can include hazardous and non-hazardous industrial wastes as well as biomedical and nuclear wastes. While it seems relatively simple that we simply remove the wastes from companies and put it somewhere, one must realize that most environmental companies strive to recycle as many materials as possible to ensure they do not end up going back into the ground via landfills. I’m still working on my website, but take a peek if you have time.
Helen asks…
Jobs in need?
Can anyone tell a 5th grader sorts of jobs i can do to earn $50
The Expert answers:
At your age, it is highly unlikely that any business will hire you to do something that pays some wage, like delivering newspapers for example.
However, ordinary people often have ordinary needs that can be done by other ordinary people.
If there is something you can do, have the strength and stamina to do, the tools to do the job, then consider how to do that for other people & get paid for it.
For example cut grass
you can go door to door in suburbia & offer to do lawnmowing in their yards
remember that you will need to clean the lawnmower, there may be costs to do the work, so you need to earn more than your financial target
plus you will have competition
If you have siblings, and have watched over them, and know what to do to change a baby diaper, clean up after them, tolerate their minor indiscretions, can cope in an emergency, you could try out for baby sitting
If you live in an apartment complex, and are handy with something … Fixing computers … Whatever it is … Make that known & you may get odd jobs with payment
There are recycling places that give a small amount of money for each aluminum can turned in. Find such a place, find out what their rate is. Ask if it is Ok to crush the can first (easier to transport more in a trash bag or box or whatever)
Go down side of highways with trash bag … Pick up what you know the recycling place pays for … Wear gloves … You might also visit picnic areas, rest stops, & raid their dumpsters for cans.
Warning … If you get ride in someone car, do not be picking up beer cans, or other alcohol containers … If police stop a car, where people have empty beer cans, they assume the car occupants been drinking it, do not accept the recycling story,
John asks…
what are some problems with recycling?
like what would it be in the future for our recycling industries
The Expert answers:
I don’t understand the sentence fragment after your question. But to answer the question, here are a few:
-recycling can require a lot of energy in the transport and processing of materials, which may outweigh the benefits such as conserving energy required to produce new materials
-recycling certain products requires the use of chemicals which may be harmful to the environment (such as paper, which is often bleached with a compound containing chlorine–this is a good reason to look for recycled paper not processes with chlorine bleach)
-finding the money to recycle can be difficult in some areas, especially those with low population densities. If there isn’t enough recyclable material to make the processing worth it, a recycler’s job becomes more difficult to fund.
-recycling certain materials simply is not economically feasible in some places (in western Montana there is no place to recycle glass. You can have it crushed and re-used, but I know of no recycling facilities in western MT)
hope that’s a good start. Do some research based on what I provided and you will find better information.

recycled paper!!!!!!!!!!?
what are some good reasons to get recycled paper??
The Expert answers:
Quality

Financial
Environment
The Future
The average American uses 9 trees (750 pounds) worth or paper per year.
In 2005, the amount of paper recovered for recycling averaged 346 pounds for every person in the U.S.
About half the trees cut down in North America annually are used for making paper.
Paper accounts for ~30-40% of landfill waste.
More than 90% of the printing and writing paper made in the U.S. Is from virgin tree fiber.
Old Growth forests make up 16% of the virgin tree fiber used each year to make paper products.
Nearly a ton of new recycled paper can be made from a ton of recycled stock compared to the 2-3.5 tons of trees required to make a ton of virgin paper. This is one of the reasons recycled paper results in lower solid waste byproducts and uses less energy, water and chemicals .
The timber industry has in all likelihood wiped out more habitat and more species per unit of production than has any other industry.
Producing recycled paper causes 74% less air pollution, 35% less water pollution, and creates five times the number of jobs than producing virgin

How do I recycle books?
I’m getting rid of a load of old books. They are obsolete and no second-hand book store or charity shop is going to want them. Is it possible to recycle them?
The Expert answers:
Yeah as long as they dont have plastic covers or anything, averything thats papaer/cardboard on the book can be recycled – you might want to like tear the books into smaller pieces – about four and then put them in a paper recyling bin and your jobs done ^_^

Is there a good paying job for 12 year olds?
Is there a good paying job for 12 year olds? My brother wants to earn more. Please answer…
The Expert answers:
One of the most common questions on “Yahoo Answers” comes from young people looking for ways to make money. I totally understand the question and the various responses with the traditional answers of babysitting, online surveys, lemonade stands, paper routes, etc. While the traditional ways of making money may work for some people, they certainly won’t work for everyone so it’s time to think outside the box and dare to be different.
In most states it’s illegal to hire minors (under a certain age) for employment. For some states that is somewhere between 14 and 18 depending on the job, the duties and the products or services being sold. The best resource for your situation is a chat with your local school’s guidance officer or Board of Education. These resources will be able to help you get a work permit, explain the laws and rules, and sometimes help you find employers that are seeking part-time student help. Let’s face it… it won’t hurt to ask.
Now for those who aren’t able to legally work for an employer, don’t give up! You can, at any age, work for yourself and/or your parents. There are limitations such as selling drugs, alcohol, body parts and other products but that leaves a lot of things that you CAN sell and/or services that you can provide.
Your local library is a great resource. Check out books like “Fast Cash for Kids” by Bonnie & Noel Drew. Talk to the Librarian for other referrals. You might like “The Richest Kids in America” by Mark Vincent Hansen… what a great book!!!
Check out the services of Junior Achievements at http://www.ja.org. Junior Achievements is a legitimate organization that works with teen entrepreneurs. You just might “click” with their website.
You will need to do a little homework before just dashing into a business of your own. You will want to find out about local laws and licensing. You might want to learn a little about marketing, accounting, selling techniques, advertising, taxes, etc.
Here are some ideas for money making that you may or may not have thought about for yourself… washing windows, recycling, teaching, tutoring, writing, crafts, selling online, fixing and selling skateboards or bicycles, refinishing furniture, cooking or baking, washing cars, growing and selling flowers or spices or even goldfish, printing tshirts or calendars, selling bumper stickers, energy efficient lightbulbs or programmable thermostats, shampooing carpeting, making and selling non toxic cleaning products, selling books or music or video games, or performing as a clown or other character or … as you can see the list goes on and on.
It’s really important to DO something to get your business started. It’s great to think about things and plan how you’ll spend your money once you earn it but you’ve got to start doing something in order to take action. Learn how to write a business plan and then concentrate on writing it. You can’t reach success if you can’t describe it.
I started working at 12 selling calendars door to door from fall to winter every year and I raked in a lot of money just fifty cents at a time. But I didn’t sit back waiting for the money to find me and you shouldn’t either. It’s time to learn about yourself, your industry, your customers, your suppliers and your business.
Every journey begins with a single step.

The Expert answers:
I admire your ambition. You are commended for your “go get ‘em” spirit.
Ask your Mom about getting “working papers”. Most young people need these to get any kind of job working for someone in a shop, mall or store. OR
This is THE SAME general list I give to members of my family, children of my friends and I send to just about every young person wanting/needing some extra money. If you are doing any of these, you’re that much ahead of the game, aren’t you? NO ONE is going to walk up to yo and ask you. YOU MUST get out there and ask others. Most of them will tell you, No”. Don’t get mad or give-up. Just keep on asking. Keep on going.
ALWAYS LET AN ADULT YOU KNOW, KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AND WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
1] Doing errands for those folks who aren’t able to quite do things for themselves. Going to the store, getting something from a neighbor, etc.
2] Doing chores for your neighbors. Sweeping floors, doing light cleaning, dusting, etc.
3] Cutting grass.
4] Raking leaves.
5] Shoveling snow and ice from sidewalks, steps, driveways, carports, etc.
6] Cleaning up yards.
7] WITHOUT expecting any money or “pay” from parent[s], relative[s] or guardian[s], doing chores around home or their business.
Honestly, YOU DO NOT ASK, “How much are you going to pay me?” OR YOU DO NOT ASK, “How much am I getting paid?” OR YOU DO NOT ASK, “How much?”
Why? Simply because you live there and that wonderful person is giving you a home, clothes to wear, food to eat, giving you the opportunity to use a computer to ask your question and other things, isn’t she?
Why? Simply because you live there and that wonderful person is giving you a home, clothes to wear, food to eat, giving you the opportunity to use a computer and ask your question and other things, isn’t he?
Why? Simply because you live there and those wonderful people are giving you a home, clothes to wear, food to eat, giving you the opportunity to use a computer and ask your question and other things, aren’t he?
8] Collecting old newspapers and recycling them. Before doing this, you better check with an adult about this.
9] If your area wants a deposit for glass bottles, plastic bottles and/or aluminum cans, collecting these and taking them back for the deposit. Before doing this, you better check with an adult about this.
10] Have a garage sale or a yard sale of the things you don’t need, want or use anymore. Ask an adult about this.
11] Look into getting a paper route. YES, you get paid money, BUT you do not get to keep and spend all the money you collect. You MUST pay for those newspapers you deliver. You MUST ask you paren[s] OR guardian[s] about this.
It doesn’t make any difference whether you work for yourself or work for someone else. You MUST pay yourself first. What do I mean? Each and every dime – ten cents – you earn, this is what you should do AND in this order:
1] Give 10% or 1 penny to your favorite charity. Give it to your church, temple or mosque. If you don’t have a favorite charity, talk with your parent[s], relative[s] or guardian[s] about charity. This is extremely important. When you give to and for others, you get back – many times what you give. It doesn’t happen “overnight” or right away, BUT IT HAPPENS. DO IT!
2] Put 10% or one penny into a savings account for yourself. Please don’t touch this money. Let money “grow” by earning interest and providing you with more money.
3] Spend 10% or one penny on yourself. Why? Because you worked for it, You earned it. You deserve it. This could go toward whatever you mentioned in your question.
4] 35% or three and one-half pennies should be put aside to pay your taxes. If you aren’t paying them now, you’ll be paying them soon enough.
5] 25% or two and one-half pennies you should use
A] for your gas, oil and upkeep for your lawnmower [sharpening the blades, buying the tools you’ll need, etc.];
B] snacks, something to drink or to have while you’re babysitting.
C] Getting the other important items you will find you MUST have and cannot do without – or you might get into deep trouble if you don’t have them. [Ask some adults. They should be able to tell you.]
6] 10% or one penny for a “rainy day”. JUST in case an emergency comes up and you HAVE TO HAVE some extra money to get somewhere or do something or buy something you forgot to buy.
Do these things each and every time someone gives you money. No matter how much or how little it is, do it. This is all part of budgeting and managing your money. When you take proper care of and properly manage your money, your money should take care of you. It doesn’t sound like much, does it? BUT when you take that dime and multiply it by ten, this equals $1.00. The percents stay the same. The amounts go up.
I’ll do the same things I just did with a dime – only I’ll do it using $10. This time I won’t use the explanations. [please stay with me]:
1] Give 10% or $1 to your favorite charity. DO IT!
2] Put 10% or $1 into a savings account for yourself. Please don’t touch this money.
3] Spend 10% or $1 on yourself.
4] 35% or $3.50 put aside to pay your income taxes.
5] 25% or $2.50 for the same exact items I described above.
6] 10% or $1 for a “rainy day”.
I’ll do this again. Now, I’ll use $100. Same percent. Nothing changed except the amount.
1] Give 10% or $10 to your favorite charity. DO IT!
2] Put 10% or $10 into a savings account for yourself. Please don’t touch this money.
3] Spend 10% or $10 on yourself.
4] 35% or $35.00 put aside to pay your income taxes.
5] 25% or $25.00 for the same exact items I described above.
6] 10% or $10 for a “rainy day”.
Suggestion: I want everyone to know I DO NOT own any portion of this man’s estate, nor am I associated with him or any one else connected with him in any way. I am not part of the publishing company or an agent or anything else. This man does not know me from Adam AND I don’t know him. I know of him and the wonderful book he wrote. THIS IS NOT SPAM.
You and your friend should each buy a copy of this book:
“The Richest Man in Babylon” by George S. Classon
Its very easy to read. Its very easy to follow. You can write in it. You can make notes in it. All you have to do is to read five [5] pages – Let’s count
1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 pages of this book – or any book – each and every day.
OR You can leave it sit on the shelf, on a table or on the floor and let it collect dust.
Suggestion: Journal every day on your computer. What you learned and what you were taught. What to do and what not to do.
Here are the two old sayings:
A] “The only stupid question is the question you don’t ask.”
B] “So, you thought — and think — education is expensive? Just wait until you try ignorance.”
Ask your parents or teachers about these.
TRUE STORY: When I was about 8, 9 or 10, I wished for something or I wished I could do something or I wished one of my terrific aunts would come home so we could do something.
I said my “wish” loud enough for my wonderful Grandmom to hear. She stopped what she was doing (making bread, I think), took-off her apron and washed her hands. In a very sweet, matronly way, she took me by the hand and led me to the living room. Grandmom sat in Grandpop’s chair and pulled me very close.
As though she was telling me a secret, she said softly, “I’m going to tell you two things I think are important enough for you to know. Number 1, I love you. No matter what you say or what you do, I‘ll always love you.”
I was playing with my hands, looking down at them. I glanced up and looked at her smiling face. I said, “I love you too, Grandmom.” She said, “Yes, I know that. And number 2: Wish in one hand and pee in the other – then see which one gets filled first!”
We hugged. She hugged me a lot harder than I hugged her. She went to the kitchen. I continued whatever I wasn’t doing.
I invested my time in you and in your dreams. I gave you some suggestions and a light down a path. As you can see, you have other choices, don’t you? The rest is up to you.
AND IF you doubt one word of this answer, please print a copy of it and show it to your parents, teachers or anyone else you might think may be on your side. Those folks might just agree with me or perhaps you.
I have much, much more. This is enough for right now.
Thank you for asking your question. I enjoyed taking the time to answer it. You did a great job – not only for your information, but for every other person interested in reading my answer. Thanks to everyone for reading my answer.
I wish you well!

Do you get money for recycling steel cans?
as well as paper and glass?
The Expert answers:
Usually these items are paid by weight. Whether your local recycling warehouse handles steel will need to be asked. If not, try a junk yard.
Chris asks…
How to raise money when your 14 years old?
I want to raise 550 dollars my birthday is coming up and i want to get money from that but not all (that’s way too much to ask for) I want to know any way i can get some money recycling anything
The Expert answers:
Paint the front of your neighbor’s house for $250 if she buys the paint and brushes.
Organize neighbor’s garages for $10 apiece.
Find an elderly person who lives alone and needs help cooking and shopping.
Caddy at the local golf course. You go home with money in your pocket every day. You have to take proof that you are 14.
Joseph asks…
can i make money recycling in austin, texas?
where can i recycle and get paid to do so? i used to do that in california, but i’m not sure if they have something similar available here.
my current residence doesn’t do the regular free recycle pick-up, so i figure if i have to drive might as well make some money!
The Expert answers:
You can make money recycling anywhere. There are some really big scrap yards in texas. Do a google search for
scrap yards in your area. I started out going to auto salvsges and paying them to let me pick scrap copper wire from
their junk cars. Then i’d take it home and burn it to clean it. Then i’d sell it to the local scrap yard. I’d pay $8 per
garbage bag full, which would equal $30 to $40 worth after i sold it. Just use your imagination and you can really
cashin. I’ve doing cell phone recycling for a while now. It’s probably the most unknown recycling business right
now. A person can make alot of money in this business just by picking up old cell phones. I stumbled upon it in a
cell phone recycling review. I havnt made the $60,000 a month they claim, but i made $687 my first week. Thats
not bad at all. If you’re interested in it, i’d recommend checking out the insiders secrets to recycling old cell phones.

Carol asks…
How can I make money Recycling?
I gave many, many, many items in this house that are recyclable from bottles, old cell phones & boxes from applianceses. Can someone tell how I could make a profit from recycling besides cans because I don’t buy soda? Thank you.
The Expert answers:
Unless there is a deposit on the bottles, nothing you’re saving is worth anything. Sorry but that’s the truth.
EDIT chris
You’re average Pickup load will get about 9 mpg so say fuel is 3.50 you’ll quickly see most of what you recycle isn’t work the gas to go get it and haul it to the recycling center.
Steel was last time I looked $250 US a ton
Cardboard was $10 US
Glass $25 – 40 per ton if you separate it into the different colors, mix color glass is almost worthless.
Even if you assume that you don’t have to go get the stuff, you have to bundle it, and in most cases deliver it, even if you had a place close by (say 10 miles) and you average a gallon and a half of fuel for the round trip, and with two trips per ton that 3 gallons of fuel which would cost $10.50 so you’re losing money on cardboard, you’re only making $15 to $30 on glass. Now don’t forget you have to bundle it and in many cases that requires you to crush it, so you have some cost for that. And lest assume you want to make ONLY $50 per day that’s 6.25 for an 8 hour day. So for Glass you’ll have to sell about 2 tons per day if you assume only a hour for each trip you’ve burn up half a day, just loading and unloading and delivering the stuff.
Having sold steel, you can’t mix types, it has to be “packaged” the right way or you take a huge hit on price.
Beside have you EVER load a ton of anything? You either have equipment (more cost) or spend a lot of time moving your stuff around. Bottles for example, if you don’t have the equipment to crush them into bail would mean you’ll be making many, many trips back and forth to the recycling center and burning up any money you’d make selling the bottles.
Yes there are things worth the time and effort, many (most if you separate them) metals, but not only do you get a good price but in many cases they will come and puck up for little or no cost to you.
Edit 2
Your average car weighs right around 1.5 tons in different metals, plastics, glass, if you have the time and equipment, cars and truck can turn a profit, that’s why I said most metals. You make far more taking it apart then you do just hauling it to a junk yard. So let’s say 1 ton of steel $250, the catalytic converters can bring up to a $100, the aluminum, copper etc, might bring in another $100 so for one car you have $400 to $500, assuming you don’t sell parts, much more if you do sell used parts. So there is good profit in it, if you have the equipment. From the sound of it you have a tow truck and the equipment, and a place to dismantle the cars, (which in many places must be done inside out of sight and the car can’t sit outside at all)
“…discouraging her to recycle “
I’m pointing out the FACTS, it’s not as easy as everyone makes it sound, nor is there such a great profit in it. Notice the original poster (OP) stated “…profit from recycling besides cans…” the OP wanted to make a PROFIT. If you’re in it to make a profit then you skip thing that you can’t make money on. Most things people take to the local recycling center they get NOTHING for them, and many times that stuff winds up in the landfill.
If you want an easy way to see if something is worth recycling (again for PROFIT) put a ton of it in your front lawn and see if anyone will steal it. A ton of paper, glass, bottles, will stay there, a ton of aluminum cans GONE, a ton of catalytic converters GONE.
And with the exceptions of metals, in many cases better for the environment NOT to recycle, it’s been proven time and time again. And Yes I can provide proof of that, you should watch Penn and Teller’s Bullshit on recycling.
BTW the market for scrap is way down.
Thomas asks…
Can you get money for recycling cardboard?
The Expert answers:
YES!
Benefits of Recycling:
· Save Money: Since old corrugated cardboard (OCC) is bulky and takes up a lot of space in dumpsters–especially if unflattened–businesses that generate large volumes of OCC may find it cost effective to bale or compact the material. And, depending upon the market, businesses make actually make a profit on the sale of collected OCC. At the very least, businesses may eliminate disposal fees by preparing it for hauler pickups or delivering it (dropoff) to a recycling facility.
· Provide Social Benefits: Donations of reusable corrugated boxes can be made to charities for reuse, or to school recycle/reuse centers for creative and educational purposes. See “Donation Information” below. Also, recycling OCC reduces the need for new paper from virgin pulp, which in turn decreases the amount of pollution generated in paper production and creates jobs.
· Divert Material from Disposal: OCC is a bulky, highly recyclable waste. Keeping this material out of the waste stream will mean saving landfill space in areas where disposed materials are landfilled and reducing pollution through avoided incineration where waste is incinerated.
BEST PRICE
To get the best prices for OCC and to ensure proper recycling:
· Separate any contaminants from the corrugated, including strapping, plastic bags, Styrofoam®, food waste or floor sweepings. Dealers pay the highest price for clean corrugated.
· Remove any boxes that should not be recycled, especially any that are contaminated by toxic or hazardous materials. Boxes cannot be recycled if they have been treated with plastic extrusions or laminates, wax coatings, etc.
· Some dealers and mills will accept loose material, but large bales are generally preferred.
Sandy asks…
Can you recycle paper for money?
and if you can is there one in Compton?
The Expert answers:
Paper can and is recycled for money, You also can do the same if you want to invest into equipment for packaging. Paper is sold in various grades recycling mills who when sell to actual paper mills. Each bale of paper weights at or near one ton. The whiter the paper the more it is worth. The more color or ink on paper requires more chemicals and mechanical processing which lowers its cost. If you can sort the grades correctly and bundle into 2000 pounds then approach a paper broker who is middle man between mills and he will offer you a price. Paper prices change daily but have seen total white paper scrap sell for 135- 150 dollars per ton. News paper print sell for 50 dollars per ton which is the lowest grade of paper. So yes you can make money but will take money and storage to get started.
John asks…
do you get good money by recycling cans?
about how much do you get and how many do you have to collect. I need the extra money and well I know a lot of people that drink sodas and throw their cans away. shoul I do it
The Expert answers:
The recycling center pays per lbs. I took my cans, plastic bottles and glass to be recycled today at Tri-CED and I got $49.21.
For plastic I got $0.92 per lb
Glass $0.11 per lb
Cans $1.57 per lb
FYI: This was one month’s recycling for a family of 6. The rates vary from recycling centers. I’ve heard of places paying $2.25 lb for cans if you have the coupon from the Penny Saver Paper.
Happy recycling!
David asks…
Make money recycling pop cans?
My town doesn’t have a recycling program, but I would like to recycle pop cans to make a little money. I know it doesn’t make much, but it’s better than wasting the aluminum. Anyone know if there’s somewhere I can send the pop cans to or a website I could check out? Thanks
The Expert answers:
Aluminum is one of the few recycled materials that does make financial sense. It really is cheaper to melt down old aluminum (cans or otherwise) than to make new aluminum from bauxite (aluminum ore).
First you need to find someone who will buy the aluminum from you. Try googling alumimum plus the name of your state. Ormet corporation for example recycles aluminum in St, Marys, West Virginia. Then contact them and ask how much they pay, where you must deliver the cans to, any other terms (min or max amounts, etc.).
Then you can figure out how you will get your aluminum, how you will get it to your buyer, etc.
Good luck.

Can I earn money by recycling paper?
so today I was at a place recycling bottles, I noticed there was a spot that said “paper” I was like (O_O)……. cuz I know that I always have paper I can recycle and I can make a couple quick bucks, I’m 13 and I wanna know that if I recycle my old papers (like magazines, old homework, newspaper, etc…), how should I recycle this stuff and how much do you estimate I would get…
MAIN QUESTIONS:
how can I recycle paper
what paper should I recycle
can I make money doing it
The Expert answers:
You would need a truck full to make some money plus paper is very heavy. You’ll earn more with glass bottles, jars, & tin cans; scrap metal, but copper & aluminum will get you more specially aluminum cans. Plastic drinking bottles & 1 gallon plastic juice or milk jars can earn you more than news paper.
If you don’t want to just give them away, reuse your news paper for wrapping or turn them into paper bags. You can protect fragile items with crumpled news paper if you don’t want to use styrofoam peanuts for packaging.
