Lizzie asks…

How to restore Recycle Bin?

I accidentally deleted the Recycle Bin icon and I’m trying to restore it back. Help?

The Expert answers:

I got in a hurry and did the same thing one day. I haven’t been able to restore it since. I have tried the method that others have recommended and have had no success… The thing is at least you can do a disk clean up and delete or retrieve any files that you put in there. Just start the disk clean up and highlight the recycle bin and view files…

Joseph asks…

computer help, opening recycling bin?

other then by clicking on the desktop icon ..
are there any other ways to open the recycling bin ?
the “start, menu .. etc” all disappeared on my computer,
& i need to empty the recycling bin out.
there’s no start.

The Expert answers:

I am not sure I understand. Is you start is still on your screen or is it gone also? If start is there you can go into programs then accessories then system tools and then do a disk clean up. It will delete files from you recycle bin. If start is missing also try Ctrl ALT and Deld and see if it does not pop up.

Daniel asks…

l have lost recycle bin?

I have lost my recycle bin. How can I restore it so I can delete what is in there?
I didn’t put in my original question that I have WindowsXP. I would like to retrieve my recyle bin. I have followed diffrent instructions, but nothing works.

The Expert answers:

Here’s what you need to do if you have Windows Vista, if you have XP or Windows 7 then it may be slightly different.

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Personalization

On the left, under tasks, you should see ‘Change desktop icons’. Click that.

Now tick ‘Recycle Bin’

EDIT: Ok, try this:

1. Right-click an empty area of your desktop
2. Select Properties
3. Click the Desktop tab
4. Click the Customize button
5. Click Restore Default
6. Exit all windows and restart your computer

If it still doesn’t work then edit your question again. 🙂

Thanks and I hope this works,
Jamie.

Betty asks…

Help lost the recycle bin?

While I was about to delete my files I deleted the recycle bin by mistake how can I retrieve this please?
I had package premium vista on my laptop.

The Expert answers:

It is in your start up file .right click start up and check items in the view it says if you want classic or ordinary switch to the one that is not chosen and go back into the first opening of the start.you will see your recycle bin

Michael asks…

Accidentally deleted my Recycling Bin….?

I have windows vista and i accidentally deleted my Recycling Bin desktop icon…. how do I get it back??

The Expert answers:

HOW DID U DELETE YOUR RECYCLE BIN!?
Any way i will help
download tweakui
it will restore it

James asks…

recycle bin problem.. :(?

when i delete a file it is not going to the recycle bin.probably someone at home changed the stting. is it possible it possible to direct the files being deleted to another file? how do i get it back to normal? and how can i restore a file when its has been deleted and hasnt gone to the recycle bin?
please help!

The Expert answers:

If you´re deleting something from a disc that´s not C:/ then you can´t change it.
If you´re deleting something from C:/ Disc then go to the recycle bin and right click, then go to it´s properties. There will be an option to disable the recycle bin.

Hope it helped.

EDIT: Don´t download what the other guy posted, it may be a spyware or malware virus.
I mean, enabling the bin folder is easy enough to don´t need any other programs…

David asks…

computer recycle bin?

i don’t know but is there a program or something i can download that shows how the total space is in the recycling bin like they had it in yahoo widgets?

something like this http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/waste-basket

or this
http://widgets.yahoo.com/widgets/trash-bin-deluxe

that can replace windows’s xp recycle bin

The Expert answers:

If you want to see the total size of the items in your recycle bin, open My Computer and open C: Make sure that “Show hidden files” is checked in the Folder Options in the Tools menu. Then mouse over the folder called RECYCLER. This contains all files deleted on that drive, and will give you the total size of all items in the recycle bin unless you have more than one hard drive.

Helen asks…

how do you recover files from recycle bin?

i accidentally cleared my recycle bin and i really realllllly reallllly need those files back how do i recover them?

The Expert answers:

Its not impossible, you need a software which i am too lazy to look for you,
you see when you clear your recycle bin you’re not deleting anything hahahaha you’re just making file invisible or forgetting the original location of the file, there are software that can help you see these invisible items but it will only work if you deleted the things recently for example my recycle bin is full and so i clear it item A can still be recovered and when i clear again item B can still be recovered but item A is lost forever

btw there are also software that can act as an extension of your recycle bin and make sure you cant find anything you have already deleted even recent objects

now,can you explain more elaborately why psp is nerdier than a phone?i mean it can practicly do everything the phone can better but doesnt look that cool……so is that it?
Based on my question you answered

Laura asks…

The Expert answers:

Your Questions About Recycling

John asks…

How expensive is it to do either copper or tin crafts?

What kind of tools do I need?

How hard is it to solder metals?

Are there hole punchers for sheet metals? Of many sizes?

What’s the best way to get started?

What can I recycle copper out of, and where would I find that?

The Expert answers:

I don’t use tin or punch metal but I use copper in my jewelry making. You can buy copper at a metal recycle yard, I get scraps of copper flashing and wire. In my area, they charge about $4/lb. For usable copper at the recycle yard. You can also use electrical wire, like romex, if you strip the insulation off.

Copper melts over 1900 degrees so you need a torch to solder it.There are lots of utube videos to watch to see the technique. I use a regular plumbers torch, about $15 at a hardware store. You also need flux and solder. I spray on liquid flux for nonferrous metal, copper wire solder or silver solder (jewelry grade) from Santa Fe Jewelry Supply here:

http://www.sfjssantafe.com/baseitems.php?Gid=MB003&DepId=metals&ItemSet=Copper&r=type

After solder, you need to soak in pickle, which is an acid solution. The best source is PH Down (or PH Minus) from a pool supply. It is sodium bisulfate, which is the same as Sparex pickle from a jewelry supply but cheaper.

Then you will need tools to finish the metal. Various files, hammers, punches, stamps are fun to experiment with but you don’t need them all at once and they can be scavenged at garage sales and flea merkets. Polishing can be done with a dremmel and muslin wheel. I use White Diamond and Zam polishing compounds.

Have Fun! HTH!

Lisa asks…

What are some cool crafts to sell at a craft fair?

I’m 13 and I’m setting up a booth at a craft fair. I’m selling jewelry, magnets, christmas ornaments, and anything else I randomly make. What are some other cool crafts to sell?
I would really like some recycling craft ideas, like crafts made out of things like soda cans, water bottles, water bottle caps, milk cartons, things that you would recycle or throw out.
Thanks a bunch! 🙂
To the first answer: Crafts that would actually sell (no offense but I don’t think people would really want a replica of me lol), and aren’t very hard to make.

The Expert answers:

Hi Julia~
There is a site Craft by Amanda, i think is the name. Found her site a few days ago from Shutterfly. She had all kinds of crafts on her site! Alot were with recycled items. I hope I gave you the right site. If not, e-mail back and I will get the correct web address for you!

Chris asks…

What are some good crafts I can make with old calenders?

I have some gorgeous 2008 ones and I hate to just recycle them. Besides using them as posters, what else can I do?

The Expert answers:

You could make puzzels out of them. ( me and my cousins did that )
or if its like a beach calander, we took different pieces of a palm tree from different month pictures and pasted them together to make a collage of different palm trees to make a big one.

Mary asks…

Recycled items sold in Los Angeles?

I am looking for a store in Los Angeles that sells random used/recycled materials for art, crafts, building projects, home decor, etc. like The Rebuilding Center (http://rebuildingcenter.org/) or SCRAP(http://scrapaction.org/) in Portland.

The Expert answers:

Try google

Richard asks…

Good arts & crafts for kids?

My go to source would usually be the Hit Entertainment site for Art Attack but now Disney ruint it and now I’m looking for other websites for crafts for kids.
One of my favorite art attacks was the porthole one and I still kind of remember it so just to give an idea of what kind of crafts.
I’ve looked at some but they’re not all interesting, I’m looking for like, kind of recycle crafts and do it yourself, like using a handkerchief and ping pong ball for a fish or a balloon and cups to make papermache trousers. Something really fun and has the presence of how Art Attack is.
Thanks in advance, help is greatly appreciated.

both are pretty good, but I like the second one better. Hope this helps***

Sharon asks…

Where can I buy old circuit boards to use in crafts?

When I search online, it just says places for new circuit boards or where to go to recycle them.

The Expert answers:

Check you local thrift store or second hand shop, they usually stock pile old computers and electronics that no one wants anymore for real cheap.

Check your local recycling facilities, since circuit boards are made mostly of silicone most manufactures must dispose of them in specific ways.

Make your own –

David asks…

Crafts to kids to sell to kids?

I am looking for crafts that are low cost or made of recycled stuff (no cost) that kids 8+ can make to sell to other kids 8+.

The Expert answers:

Try paper beaded jewelery. Like roll up colored paper around a straw and glue it and cut it into segments to use as beads.

Sandra asks…

Free craft/recycled materials?

I’m looking for free crafting or recyclable material websites. Also, places to find fabric scraps are awesome. Thanks in advance!

The Expert answers:

I think if you tell me where you live I can help a little more.

One quick way to get started is to search your city or state with materials exchange.

Nancy asks…

What are some unique recycling crafts I can do?

Most of the sites I’ve found list things like using egg cartons to store game pieces in, etc. I don’t find most of those things very useful. I was thinking of saving bottle caps and sort of turning them into a bottle cap collage where it spells out words. I’m looking for more unique craft ideas, similar to that concept. Especially idea’s revolving around coffee containers, because I’ve been saving them up and I have about 10 or 11 laying around. (Right now being used as change buckets and ammo storage for my husband’s guns.) Any ideas at all? Links to sites? Thanks!

The Expert answers:

I believe altered art is something that would interest you 🙂 Here’s an article about altered art collage:

Chris asks…

I need help with this really difficult problem?

I need help getting china, america, and the uk to form a pact to disarm their nuclear arsenal and use the radioactive resource for nuclear power to begin construction of electromagnetic rails guns for compete space based recycling of consumed products.
So that our economic system has a more visceral waste management system, and so that jobs can be generated, and also so that our true calling as humans can become a realization instead of a carrot used to prompt us to war.
Got any grant suggestions that don’t require an online course?

The Expert answers:

Given that you mention specifics, my dream has long been a unified, global economy, but too, in that regard a walk across China can be very long, measured in miles and time.

What we have wrought, will be dissolved or expelled. Evolution has not always been gifts given without greed taking back in the same sense.

So where are we now, with the loss of sense, thinking angry, our best defense? Our footfalls will be imprinted in fossilized stone, when nature recaptures, transmutes the world again as virginal, freshly grown.

Joseph asks…

I need help recycling in Houston!?

I want to recycle as much as I can, including glass bottles, of different colors. I’m in Clear Lake City, TX area, but they said they consider glass a hazardous waste. I call the city of houston, they give me waste management, but it’s a never ending cycle, no one gives me a straight answer where I can recycle glass. Please help, I want to go green as much as possible. I’ve even switched to cloth diapers for my baby. 🙂

PS The websites give me disconnected numbers, store numbers, but no answers to glass.

The Expert answers:

Houston has Neighborhood Drop-Off Sites that will take glass containers (but not plate glass because of the materials added to the plate glass)

Neighborhood Drop-Off Sites
Another alternative for neighborhoods without curbside recycling are neighborhood drop-off sites.

Items accepted at the Neighborhood Drop-off Sites and Neighborhood Depositories:

* Newspaper, magazines, office paper
* Glass food & beverage bottles and jars (No ceramics or plate glass!)
* Plastic bottles & jugs (marked #1 & #2 only!)
* Aluminum and tin food cans
* Cardboard boxes (Must be broken down with packing materials removed.)

You can learn more about their recycling programs at this website:

Lizzie asks…

Do you know anything about Enviroment work stuff? I need help w/ my homework.?

Ok, i have to pick a topic and write about the enviromental areas in the business. I found a thing about wal-mart and what their doing to try to help the enviroment but I’m not sure about what topic to pick. What topic would u pick?
environmental regulations companies must follow

the cost to business associated with following environmental regulations

trends in handling environmental problems

new environmental problems anticipated in the future

identify current jobs that are related to the environment (such as waste management and recycling)

identify new jobs that may develop as a result of the need to solve environmental problems

identify the major environmental issues that business and industry must address during the next decade
Wal-mart site:
http://www.walmartstores.com/GlobalWMStoresWeb/navigate.do?catg=217

The Expert answers:

If you’re looking for some of the resources and issues, check out your local volunteer center for some resources. Since they match community groups and people with projects dealing with the issues, they have vast resources about these specific issues and how people, companies, and groups get involved to make a difference:

Here are some links to help you get started:
http://www.handsonnetwork.org/vca/citizen-academy/
http://www.volunteerresource.org

Several companies have seen the need within our local communities, and have provided support surrounding specific issues, like the environment. Wal-Mart is known to give back to the community, but there are so many other corporations that do this as well. Check out the different volunteer centers in your area to see who the sponsors are:
http://www.handsonnetwork.org/our-network/

These companies are also great resources for you to begin your research.

Good luck with your assignment.

I have to write a memo about one of these but I do not know how to find any of these threads could someone help please??Thanks…

First, conduct research on the Internet about trends and issues in handling environmental problems affecting business. You can obtain information about any of the following:

the cost to business associated with following environmental regulations

trends in handling environmental problems.

new environmental problems anticipated in the future

identify current jobs that are related to the environment (such as waste management and recycling)

Paul asks…

Environmental Science Questions?

I have a question about environmental science…….

1. A good example of source reduction would be:
A: Burning old tires to create usable energy.
B: Finding uses for discarded computers.
C: The lighter weight of aluminum cans as opposed to years ago.
D: Installing air pollution control devices in incinerators.
E: Increasing the percentage of paper, glass, and aluminum that is
recycled in the U.S.

In my book it says the source reduction is a strategy where industries can often design and manufacture their products in ways that decrease the volume of solid waste and the amount of hazardous materials in the solid waste stream.
It also says that it is the most underutilized aspect of waste management and that it is accomplished in a variety of ways, such as substituting raw materials that introduce less waste during the manufacturing process and recycling and reusing wastes at the plants where they are generated.

I just don’t comprehend the question. I don’t think the answer is B or D but correct me if I’m wrong. Can you please give me a detailed explanation of the answer as well.

Thank You So Much
B doesn’t make since. Because the definition of source reduction states that it is all about reducing waste at the source of the product when it is made. Not after it has already been made.

The Expert answers:

B finding uses of a discarded computer.
Since, today computers are being used extensively in every field its better to find the uses for them and computers are being discarded heavyly.

Helen asks…

When you delete something from your computer, where does it go?

I understand that there’s questions about this already. I’ve read through some of them but I still don’t quite get it. LOL, like…when you delete something in Windows, for example, it goes into the Recycling Bin. If you PERMANENTLY delete it, where does it GO?

Does it go into some Cyber Waste Management or vanish into air or does it just stay in your hard-drive and take up little pieces of space?

The Expert answers:

It stays in your computer, but gets written over.

Think of it like a tape recorder. If you tape something on it, then go to tape again, it will bring you to the available (empty) place. Then if you want to delete something, you actually record “NOTHING’ over the spot. So it becomes blank and empty.

This is how computer forensics can still find things on a computer that you think are deleted. If the place it was stored is not written over again, they can still retrieve it.

As a user, we dont get to put the stuff in a certain place, the computer does that.

The Expert answers:

There are hundreds of links to the regulations that apply to business and industry.

Env Regs: RCRA, CWA, CAA

The cost: Start at approx $5,000 per permit. How many permits required depend on the industry and business. This cost can easily hit $100K per year in the blink of an eye for a plant with 300-500 employees.

If the business is a RCRA generator (a photography developer), then they will have to comply with all RCRA laws. It is not an easy process. An auto body repair shop will have RCRA and air permits (if they have a paint booth).

An industry will have to comply with Title V air permits if they are a huge discharger (much more than $5K per year).

New Problems: Industrial Hygiene in the work space (mold).

New Jobs: Environmental Coordinator or consultant for industry.

Industry trends: Looks like there will be a push to reduce emissions to air. Other trends include waste minimization.

Your best advice should be to hire a QUALIFIED professional environmental consultant to perform an environmental audit of your business to see what you lack.

Your Questions About Recycling

George asks…

why do we have recycle symbols when recycling is so low on our priorities?

seriously everything ends up in the landfill when landfills should be empty like a desert

The Expert answers:

Not everyone’s priorities. The symbols are there so those of us who care can take advantage of them. It’s like you going to school. If you want a good education, you can get it. If it’s as low on your priorities as recycling is, practice saying, “Would you like fries with that?”

Donna asks…

Why are the recycling symbols so small and hard to read on bottles?

The Expert answers:

I worked in plastic molding factory’s for a few years . Well it’s not a big issue to most people to see the symbol but the molds are small the same size as the bottle or object and it cost like $150,000 dollars to make a mold the more detail in the metal mold the more money it costs.

Laura asks…

Can i recycle a container that is marked Recycle symbol 6 ps?

if i can help the earth by a little bit itd be great 😉
thanks

The Expert answers:

You’ll have to check with your local recycling center. Where I live we can only do #1 & #2 plastic.

Susan asks…

What does the recycle symbol with a tick in the center mean? This symbol in on the base of my electric kettle?

The Expert answers:

Just means that its recyclable.

I assume the base of the kettle is plastic? Also the metal inside would be able to be recycled.

Joseph asks…

Can anybody tell me where I can get the recycle symbol to use in a document?

The Expert answers:

Here take a look at these

http://images.google.ca/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=recycle&btnG=Search

William asks…

Where do i buy the blue recycling bin from?

I am looking for the blue recycling bin, the typical blue kind with the symbol on the front, i want a narrow kind, for the house. i would prefer to buy it at a store instead of online, but if its cheaper online i dont mind buying it from there as well. 🙂
thanks!

The Expert answers:

Home Depot carries various recycling bins in different sizes.

Richard asks…

What does the recycle symbol with a tick in the center mean. Many thanks?

The Expert answers:

It is most likely either a number 7 designating the type of plastic or a marketing tool indicating the material is recycleable.

Paul asks…

What number plastic is a container with multiple numbered recycling symbols on it?

I have a yellow Tidy Cats Scoop for multiple cats 35 lb tub that I’d like to recycle… but it has multiple numbers on it! It has a number 5 (PP) in the triangular recycling symbol, then it has an arrow pointing downwards to another triangular recycling symbol with the number 2 (HDPE) in it. Then on the other side of the bottom, it has a clock-looking symbol numbered 0-9 with an arrow inside pointing to the number 0. It has another clock-looking symbol numbered 1-12 right below it with an arrow inside pointing to the number 11. Can someone please explain to me what number plastic this is and what the heck these symbols mean? I was thinking perhaps since the container has a handle with a grip and they’re too small to put numbers on, they decided to put the numbers on the bottom instead. The lid was a #5. There are three separate places that I go to in order to recycle different plastics, so I have to have them separated by number.

The Expert answers:

I find them useful for storage, The handle is likely polypropylene, and the lid and main portion are likely to be HDPE.

HDPE has a slight oily feel to it.

The other info there is just specifics on the plant that made the items, the day the time, etc. Just quality control noise that leaks through sometimes.

Mandy asks…

what are names of recycling companies with websites?

I need to know the name of a site I used to write a paper a long time ago, the site talked about recycling paper – breaking down the fibers-, recycling car tires into new tires and rubber powder used in sidewalks and artificial sports pitches. I don’t know the name of the website but it had a symbol of a sphere shaped like the earth with latitude and longitude lines marked on it. i need help as soon as possible.

The Expert answers:

There are tons of recycling companies with with websites. It would help if you said what area you are in.

How would the enforcement of recycling positively affect the economy?

It goes along the lines of getting the most out of our scarce resources, but I was looking for something a little more in depth.
One of the most important things in economics is getting the most out of your scarce resources. I’d think recycling would be part of that. Not sure how recycling would close down plants and factories. You’d think it would open more places of employment if everyone began to recycle.
One of the most important things in economics is getting the most out of your scarce resources. I’d think recycling would be part of that. Not sure how recycling would close down plants and factories. You’d think it would open more places of employment if everyone began to recycle. Please be more specific.

The Expert answers:

It wouldn’t. People in manufacturing would lose jobs and recycling costs more then garbaging stuff.

So, now you have a bunch of empty factories and jobless people and you have to have them pay more in taxes to recycle.

Economically, recycling is terrible.

Sharon asks…

Non-recycling Damages to air…What are these damages?

What are the damages of non-recycling to our air…

The Expert answers:

When you do not recycle then all those things get put into landfills. There are several reasons why this can damage the air.
For one thing if you recycle a plastic bottle then that means less plastic has to me created from scratch. Which means less harmful gasses and other by products of the production process get released. Plastic is made from oil we are already hearing about the shortages of oil left on our planet.

When items go to landfills they also overtime will release harmful gasses into the air, soil, and possible ground water.

I have been to landfills only twice in my lifetime and I hope I never have to go back. I am not talking about the nice little trash collection sites – I am talking about the large landfills full of all sorts of items that could have been recycled which would have saved that land for other uses.
Recycling also provides jobs.

James asks…

What’s the best Job and worst job you’ve had?

what was it????

my worst job was sorting recycling. wtf the stuff people put in their recycle bins is hillarious. putrid filth. /me shudders

The Expert answers:

My best job ever, being a paramedic, we get to save lives and make people feel better. My worst job…being a paramedic, we have to try to save people who are going to die no matter what, or we find them already dead, and have to tell the family that they are dead and we can not bring them back.

Nancy asks…

How do I recycle my Chinese cell phone for cash?

I really want to recycle my chinese cell phone!!! I already bought a new tmobile sidekick 2008 and so i don’t need this one anymore. The thing is, I bought this phone off of ebay for about $150. I already went to most of the “recycle your old cell phones for cash” websites, and obviously they mostly just have the most popular brands. When I’m trying to select my manufacturer, there’s no “other” also!!! When there is the “other” option, my phone ends up to be of $0 value.
How do I recycle it? It’s a Cect k630i (not sony ericsson)
(it’s a good phone: mp3 player, bluetooth, 2.0 mp camera, touch screen…..)
any help would be great!

The Expert answers:

I think u can ask ur friends if they want to buy but if it didnt work u can keep it and use it when something happend to ur new cell
good luck in ur recycling job i hope it do the magic

David asks…

should recycling be mandatory?

i need arguments for my persuasive essay. and also opinions with details. thanks!

The Expert answers:

I believe it should be mandatory. People can learn to recycle effectively. The natural resources we have are declining.
Recycling will give more folks jobs in the long run, think about it.

Recycling gives us less trash filling up landfills, another declining precious commodity–land.

Yes. In answer to your question–yes, it should be mandatory.

Charles asks…

How does moving to a low carbon economy create jobs?

The Expert answers:

It starts with money.

You can give incentives to those that are low carbon (lower tax rates, tax breaks, cash incentives) and/or penalize those that are high carbon (fines, higher tax penalties).

Then, there is an incentive for people/companies to put in the effort to become low carbon. Even if it is just to save money. This money is used to pay for the labor required to make those changes.

Imagine if we just threw our garbage on the streets and we were talking about getting out of this mess. There are jobs created to clean the existing mess, jobs created at treatment/landfill/recycling centers, engineering jobs created to come up with new innovations and lower cost solutions, as well as jobs created within each company to handle their own garbage.

This situation is one we are facing today. A lot of work will be required to make changes in every industry to become lower carbon and to manage and regulate carbon emissions. It is just a matter of funding those jobs.

Lizzie asks…

Recycle Bin problem.?

In my recycle bin i have a file folder called AIM. I can delete everything in my recycle bin accept this file folder. When i click empty recycle bin nothing will delete. i have to separately delete them but still cannot delete aim file folder. If i click delete it wont, empty recycle bin wont work, restore wont work. Why can’t i delete this file. I really want it delete

The Expert answers:

Install a free cleaner called Glary Utilities ( http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html ) to remove junk files and/or remnants of installs (there is always some) and use it in “safe mode” (for a better cleanup job).

Recycling wood and making a present?

My family has a picnic table that is starting to rot in a few places. Its been in our family for 50 years, and it was hand made by my grandfather. He’s turning 80 soon, and we wanted to make him something from the table. (The pieces that aren’t rotting) But we don’t know what to make for him. We were thinking maybe a picture frame, but we’re not very good with wood work. Please help, it would be really nice to do something like this for his 80th birthday!

The Expert answers:

At a craft fair, I saw a vendor used recycled barn wood to woodburn a portrait on. He did custom jobs by taking a photo and transferring it to the wood. If there are artists in your area, one of them may be able to use the woodburning technique or paint/etch his portrait (or him and your grandmother) onto a piece of the wood.
That would be a very personal gift!

If he likes fishing or something, you could mount a favorite item (fishing lure, old reel, etc.) on a piece. Paint the edges black or gray because where you cut it the wood will be very light colored. My grandfather loved poems. It would have been good to decoupage his favorite poem to the wood. Or a family heirloom doily.

Facts about aluminium?

Hi,
I need some interesting facts about Aluminium
Like who found/discovered it, and how, or/and history of it. Recycling it, or does it have effects on the environment,
Thanks if you can help,
Thank you thank you thank you!Xx

The Expert answers:

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal’s low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are very important in other areas of transportation and building. Its reactive nature makes it useful as a catalyst or additive in chemical mixtures, including ammonium nitrate explosives, to enhance blast power.

Steven asks…

why do americans not care about their astronomical rate of consumption?

Why are Americans so jaded to the idea of reducing, reusing, and recycling the things they buy? Are they even aware that almost every environmental problem can be traced back to us and our insatiable appetite for goods? Why do we not care, even if we know the facts? Do we feel like we deserve it? Do we not wanna be inconvenienced? It is a ideology thing? Do we think its not our problem, or that we don’t matter? What is it!?

The Expert answers:

You are assuming everyone is? I bet you have at least one game console. Latest games?

I don’t, I have better things to do with my time.

What I find ironic is people such as yourself will laugh at what George Carlin talks about- yet much of what he talks about is not that funny if you understand and actually listen to what he is talking about. Sadly he is deceased. But he lives on on youtube, just enter his name and see what he has to say about radio and television- the content is called programing for a reason.

And you wonder why? I bet you fail to see the social engineering in your classroom as well. I bet you also fail to understand the problem of packaging. Yes, there is a problem with shoplifting, and that attributes to “some” of it, but not all of it. Have any drink boxes in you fridge? Why? People are often critical of others without paying attention to their own failings.

Sandy asks…

Can anyone counter point ‘Penn & Tellers: ” on recycling?

I was about to check my email when the yahoo answers selected questions were about recycling… so I ask you to watch this:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7734998370503499886&q=bullshit

and tell me why I shouldn’t believe what they say, with CITED facts from 2 independent sources.

>> Warning the following video uses colorful language<<
If that type of language offends you then you should watch this first
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3644072958341565007&q=bullshit+humbug

The Expert answers:

I guess nobody can.
I’ve heard this from other sources before, but it is very hard to make somebody believe in it.
Now I only recycle metals for energy saving and batteries and other things that is actually harm-full for the environment.

I believe the environmentalists are doing this because they want everybody to think about the environment and take responsibility for it and constantly be reminded of it. I don’t think the gains justify the means of lying though.

Lisa asks…

SAT grammar questions: What is wrong with these sentences?

“Mrs.Richardson has a daughter who is very much like her sister in appearance and in temperament, a fact that the family finds uncanny.”

“Taking empty cans and bottles to a recycling center is one way to reduce pollution; to reuse is another.”

Or are they correct?
Thanks in advance!

The Expert answers:

In my view, the first sentence is fine, and I’m something of a pedant where grammar is concerned.

The only problem I see is that it’s not clear whether “her sister” refers to the daughter or to Mrs. Richardson. Most people would infer that that the daughter is meant, and this is probably the case. To make the sentence slightly clearer, you could place a comma after “daughter,” but this is a situation in which a comma is not absolutely required.

You could also remove the repeated “in”: “very much like her sister in appearance and temperament.”

Then there’s the issue of whether “family” should be singular or plural. Experts do not agree.

In the second sentence, you need parallel construction: “reusing them is another”.

The problem with these exercises is that many good writers do not follow the rules to the letter, because their meaning is generally obvious. However, you need to learn those rules in order to break them effectively.

Donna asks…

Are some people uneducated about how recycling works?

I drive an automated recycling truck in my borough and I am amazed at how some people say they have “gone green” yet really are such wasteful people.

I was always the last person to care about recycling but after working for my borough and seeing how wasteful we really are, I saw the light. Here are some facts about my town…

I live in a town of about 35-40,000 people.

Our recycling program dumps about 35,000 lbs of recycles per day at the recycling center. We get $20 per ton for those recycles.Thats 4 trash truck loads.Had we have incinerated it, We would pay $80 per ton to dump it.

Everyday our trash guys pick up bags of clothes, good unwanted furniture and you can imagine what else. Many people today break their items purposely before putting them curbside because their attitude is they don’t want anyone re-using what they paid for. It’s kind of rediculis to think this way.Their are goodwill, veteran and other donation bins all over.Let someone needy have this stuff.
Donating unwanted goods is also a form of recycling and saves your town money. FACT: Towns that are not wasteful and have successful waste management programs pay less in taxes. My town shells out about $5,000 a day, $25,000 per week for trash removel.Thats just dumping fees! Add salaries and fuel to that. It’s a very serious problem and many of us are uneducated as to how it works. Sorry for rambling but I hope 1 person learned something here.

The Expert answers:

I think there should be a law on recycling at least the basics. Plastic bottles, cans, glass and paper. If everyone would at least just recycle those we would be in good shape. It would be nice if everyone did what you said too.

I actually have had a nagging question about recycling that you just inspired me to ask on here, will you check it out, maybe you can help

Sharon asks…

im entering an art contest and i have an amazing idea but the fact is i need to use recycled, green or environmentally friendly material.

if its not, what are some materials that are Green and can be used for sculpting and is melt-able?

The Expert answers:

Not really green.
Can use paper mache’ ( recycling newspaper) or real clay without additives, or composted material if project is needing soil type. Or corn or rice etc.

Hope it works out.

Linda asks…

Informing people on RECYCLING??!?

i am writing an informative essay on recycling…and i know it sounds easy but i’m having some SERIOUS mental/writers block. can anyone help me with some facts, opening paragraphs/sentences? i’d appreciate it so much!!!!

ps– this is for a communications class and i am a freshman in college
this has to be an INFORMATIVE essay, not a persuasive one 🙁 🙁 🙁

The Expert answers:

Heres an idea for an opening paragraph….. But please only think about it. I would hate to spoil your grade because i am only a 6th grader. I love to write and im a HUGE person on world peace and global warming. Maybe MAJORLY modify it or put it into your own words.

Because not everyone recycles, its is becoming a big problem for the world as a whole. Though it still seems to be okay when you look around and don’t see a recycling bin nearby, you apologize to the earth and get on with your day. Recycling is becoming a big part of essential everyday life. Many organizations concentrate strictly on teaching the youth of our nation alone to recycle every time they dispose of a recyclable object. This is mainly because so many adults of today do not bother to recycle because they were not taught it to be that important as a child. But the meaning of recycling to so many today mean to put something in green, plastic bin. But it means so much more than just that.

Can you start it off from there?

Sandra asks…

Wh8th grade Science: The Recycling Factory Science Project?

I have to do a science project and Have no idea where to start on this one!!!! I need some ideas on how to use these materials to produce solar energy, as well has how to separate the materials. Please help!! I want to hear your ideas to spark some of my own!! Thanks!!!

The Recycling Factory Project

Suppose that you are the new owner of the We Can Save Recycling Factory and you are looking for business. Your factory is powered by solar energy and it acts as a transfer station, where materials are separated and shipped, by truck, to a processing plant.

An official from San Fransisco, Mr. Smith, tells you that they have a dump truck full of recycled materials that must be separated, and they will pay you $5,000 if you can do it. Unfortunately, the job is made more difficult by the fact that someone has ground all of the materials into a fine powder, making it impossible to separate them by hand. Fortunately, Mr. Smith knows what the materials in the truck are, as well as their densities:

Material
Density (g/cm3)

Aluminum soda cans
2.7

Steel cans
5.7

Plastic bottles and jugs
0.95

Glass bottles
1.4

In your factory, you have the following materials at your disposal:

· A long conveyor belt

· A large tank that can be filled with water

· Another large tank labeled “Concentrated sugar water, density = 1.5g/cm3”

· Several powerful magnets hanging above the conveyor belt

· Several nets for skimming the tanks and scooping material from the bottoms.

Your job: Find a way to separate the four recycled materials. You may need to do this in several steps.

Part 1:

You will have to write a letter to the city official that describes your plan.

· Explain how your factory uses solar power to generate electricity, while protecting the environment.

· You describe what will be separated by each step.

· Your plan is understandable.

· You use correct grammar and spelling.

· Your letter is no more than three pages.

The Expert answers:

The Conveyor belt will transfer the material from the truck. The large magnests will pick out the bits of steel because it is magnetic. Then, the conveyor belt will go into the first water tank and all the plastic will float to the top because the plastic is less dense than water. Then the skimmers will skim it out. The conveyor will move it to the sugar water tank and the glass will float to the top because glass is only 1.4 density and the water is 1.5 density. The skimmers will skim off the glass and the remaining product is the Aluminum.

Charles asks…

How to? question about recycling?

How many tress do we save if we all use grocery recycling bags??

Also can anyone tel me why we should recycling??

The Expert answers:

We should recycle because the world has limited resources and by reusing them we won’t run out as quickly- it reduces the need for more raw materials. Also because if we didn’t , the landfills would keep filling up and where would we put all the garbage?!!?

Jenny asks…

Is there a recycle center in China that wants to buy plastic bottles?

shanghai

The Expert answers:

This is dated over a year ago, but perhaps you could give the number a call to see if they have information on plastic bottle recycling or to see if their service area has expanded.

Additionally, almost every place I go, I see people collecting plastic bottles. I put ours in a separate bag and leave them out for those who know where to go to recycle.

“Recycling hotline opens in Shanghai

“Residents in four districts in Shanghai now can call 400-620-9500 for garbage recycling, the first time such a hotline has appeared in China, Labor Daily reported on Monday.

“The hotline, run by New Jinhua Rubbish Recycling Center, offers services to residents in districts of Changning, Putuo, Hongkou and Luwan, the report said.

“The service includes picking up old appliances such as TVs and washing machines, as well as glass bottles and newspapers.

“People can also call 6234-8790 to order the service.

“Both hotlines only provide services in Chinese.

“Clients can also call 5218-0366 if they have complaints about the service, the report said.

“The hotline is expected to expand its network to Yangpu and Xuhui districts in the first half of this year, the report said.”

Carol asks…

on garbage day i saw a man going n everyones garbage, it was the recycleable garbage day ,papers, boxes?

bottles, cans ect.. the man had a green garbage bag full of w/e he was taking, i know he wasnt taking bottles either because i watched him in my next door neibours garbage as he picked, … man was decent and clean and average looking man, not a bum looking guy. also he parked his car down the street and left when done…i wil be watching for him next week, im sure he will be back. then i will report him to cops
ok people this was not a BUM nor was he taking bottles, im thinking he is looking for id theft, it was bills and peoples personal info he was taking. please read before you answer

The Expert answers:

Recyclables put out for collection are the property of the city, or whoever the recycling authority is, the moment they are put out for pick-up. Taking recyclables out of the box in a municipality that has a recycling pick-up is theft, and people can be charged. If there is no recycling pick-up, taking items out of regular garbage is a crime in some places, but not all.

Michael asks…

Any ideas on Recycling Projects? Help?

I need some ideas on a recycling project. I need them bad. I’m a 9th grader, my physics teacher wants us to do a project about recycling (paper, cans, plastic bags, hanger, anything). Its going to be projected in front of the school. so I need some creative ideas on a recycling project I can do… Help?

Thanx in advance.

The Expert answers:

I get recycling, but I prefer re-purposing. I have a large piece of art that would earn you an easy A if you have creative tendencies…it’s a huge shadow box-style frame (maybe a 4’x3′ frame) with a really beautiful art piece that is made entirely of “garbage”…it’s gauze, cotton, and the like…built up in a 3-D effect (like a carved oriental rug) and dyed accordingly…mostly it’s floral, because that what the style I decorated in at the time I bought it, and while I don’t use it anymore (it’s been over 20 years since I got it), I don’t toss it because I still think it’s really cool. Imagine what you could do with crushed or cut aluminum cans and similar materials…art made out of recycled materials sells for big money…maybe think about a yard sculpture from recycled aluminum or something like that? No only would you get an A for creativity and thinking outside the box, you might start a new career for yourself!

Thomas asks…

How to organize one’s garbage?

I live in a condo complex. As of March 1, they are getting rid of the big dumpster bins and now, individual owners are responsible for their own garbage.

New recycling and garbage containers were delivered last week to each individual homeowner.

Question: How to organize one’s garbage so as not to stink the garage?

Life was so much easier when we could just dump whatever in the dumpsters. Now, only certain things can go in recycling and the regular garbage receptacles and since mine is only picked up every 2 weeks, I’m afraid it will stink up my garage.

I have no problem with the recyclable materials. I will rinse off yogurt and milk cartons, anything canned I will rinse off, before throwing them out.

However, it all seems like a lot more work for us now that everything has to be separated.

Is there a way to do this free of headache and stress?

I am thinking of keeping 2 garbage containers “inside” my kitchen to separate things for a day or 2 before taking them out to the garage?

Thank you.

The Expert answers:

Glad makes a scented trash bag, they work well. A 13 gal trash can in your kitchen with those bags, and just tie it up and take it out to the garage when full. I don’t think pick up every two weeks is right, that could run into sanitation issues. You may want to check on that, it should be once a week.

John asks…

Why do we need to put garbage in plastic bags?

Why can’t we just fill up our trash cans with garbage and put that on the curb? Why do we need to have plastic bags at all?
Why can’t we quit using plastic garbage bags?
Animals get in the plastic bags when they are in the garbage cans. It makes more sense to just have much tighter lids and no plastic bags. Also, couldn’t we just fill up the garbage, bring it to the curb, the garbage gets taken, then we rinse out the container, and start all over again?

The Expert answers:

I live in East Riding of Yorkshire England and I asked our local council this question 6 months ago because their literature on what to put in the blue recycling bins said items must be tied in carrier bags.

The Council eventually agreed that it is a none sense to buy bags just to put recyclable waste in. So we haven’t used plastic bags for the last 6 months in either of our recyclable/non recyclable item bins. We have never had a problem with food smells as we compost peelings and avoid food waste.

Ask your local council, they may not object to you not using plastic bags. They probably haven’t really thought about the issue yet.

William asks…

How can you reuse plastic bags?

I use shopping bags like Safeway and Extra Foods for little garbage bags. But is there a better and maybe even a cheaper way to use them. Plus what about Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, La Senza, Victoria’s Secret, and Lacoste Bags? How can you use them again?

Help with this one too 🙂

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhnYIpkafQe00Rg445USnzLsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080919222431AAW87lS

The Expert answers:

Another way to reuse these is to use them the way that you used them when you first received them : go shopping again! Plastic bags do not decompose so a plastic bag 10 years after when you first used it is still the same plastic bag.
The easiest way is to use them all for shopping again when you go to the grocery store again or when you go buy clothing again.
Using them as garbage bags is also not a bad idea.

In the cycle of being environmentally friendly there are three steps,
REDUCE
REUSE
Recycle

I suggest that you first try to reduce the number of plastic bags that you require, this can be through steps such as using canvas bags for shopping, (canvas bags hold more and wont rip under a heavy load)
if you happen to forget to bring your canvas bags to the store the next best thing for those bags is to reuse them, either at the store again or as trash bags as you are doing now.
The final step is that if you don’t need them as garbage bags, and you have canvas bags for shopping, then you can recycle them. Safeway, Giant, and other grocers take these plastic bags and recycle them to make new bags.

I strongly encourage you to REDUCE your need for plastic bags by making the step towards canvas bags, some grocers even take a few cents off of your next grocery bill when you bring your own canvas bags.

Sharon asks…

where does the town recycling go?

Is it safe to recycle papers in your town’s collection? Probably being paranoid, but I just want to make sure what I throw is is really shredded safely.

The Expert answers:

You best to call your towns garbage collection department . They will have all the answers for you.
I put my waste paper in a clear plastic bag and it is picked up every 2 weeks with other recyclables. And yes shred any paper with personal information on it.

Daniel asks…

What do you think about using reusable bags for grocery shopping???

I just purchased a cute recycled cloth material reusable bag from WWF(world wildlife fund) at JC Penneys. The only thing is i would have to buy either one huge bag or maybe 2 bags for shopping. I don’t see other people do this in the city i live in….i hope the employees at Wal-Mart doesn’t think im trying to shoplift haha….anyway do any of u guys do this?????
Thanks for all your opinions i find it very helpful

The Expert answers:

No i don’t do it but many people should. Didn’t they say that plastic bags can last like 100 years or more as garbage. Besides the world wouldn’t let you shoplift with all the security available, especially walmart though it’s not impossible but you are not buying a cloth bag for that anyway. Really, who cares about what people think you are doing the right thing and sometimes it don’t seem like but you know you are. So Thanks for not using those plastic bags.

Donna asks…

How do i get my recycle bin back?

Well
i acidently delte my recycle bin while i was deleting the whole stuff
could u please tell me how i goin to get the recycle bin back?

The Expert answers:

Windows XP

(1) Right-click on your desktop.
(2) Point to “New”. Then select “Folder” to create a new folder.
(3) Name the new folder
“Recycle Bin.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}”.

Whoops Yahoo tends to truncate things so I’m not sure how to give you that except email me.

To resolve this issue in Windows Vista, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Personalization, click Personalization, and then click Change desktop icons.
3. Click to select the Recycle Bin check box, and then click OK.

Hey if you used a specific program to delete the recycle bin that would be helpful to know.

Chris asks…

recycle bin does not find .how can i find it?

recycle bin is not in desk top

The Expert answers:

The actual Recycle Bin, if you did delete it from Windows Explorer, should regenerate when you restart the machine. If you’ve just lost the icon from the desktop, here’s how to get that back:

For Vista (and maybe W7):

1.Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize.
2.Click the Change Desktop Icons entry in the left pane.
3.Check the Recycle Bin checkbox.
4.Click OK.

That should do it for Vista. With Windows XP:

There may be a more direct way, but here’s the only one I know of:

1.Download and install a freebie from Microsoft called TweakUI (see below for the URL). Install it on the desktop. It happens to be a nice tool, by the way.
2.Run it.
3.Click the Desktop entry on the left.
4.On the right, a series of check boxes for desktop icons should appear. The Recycle Bin should be one of them. Click it.
5.Click OK.

That should do it for XP.

Ken asks…

Recuva (pronounced “recover”) is a freeware Windows utility to restore files that have been accidentally deleted from your computer. This includes files emptied from the Recycle bin as well as images and other files that have been deleted by user error from digital camera memory cards or MP3 players. It will even bring back files that have been deleted by bugs, crashes and viruses.

George asks…

Is there a website where i can share stuff for recycle or reuse?

I want to get rid off some of my old electronics and books. These could be reused or parts can be extracted for other purposes. Is therea website where I can post this so that others can contact and collect it from me. Thanks

The Expert answers:

I found www.gr2o3.com an excellent FREE site to share stuff for reuse and recycle. Please check it out !!!!

Daniel asks…

What are some of the dangers of not properly recycling electronics?

The Expert answers:

Many electronics contain lead, which is not only a potentially deadly substance to people, but also to the environment. Many are shipped illegally to Asian countries where they are melted down or disposed of improperly. I recently watched a show which showed the dangers of improper disposal of electronics, and it showed where many electronic products are ‘recycled’, which was pretty much a hell hole of toxic waste. Plus, children are doing most of the ‘recycling’ and dying from lead poisoning they receive from working with it everyday. In fact, they showed a disgusting stream of lead and chemicals and one of the workers said, “This is where the children swim and play”. So, environmentally and humanly harmful!

Maria asks…

How do recycling businesses make money on old electronics?

How is this done?

The Expert answers:

Reuse the major parts, drives, RAM etc. Reclaim lead and gold from the boards.

Sandra asks…

know where I can unload my own junk at a junkplace/ recycle in dallas area? the hauling co. charge fees and?

they don’t disclose how much $$ until they arrive . I have 2 appliances, electronics, and wood furniture to haul.

The Expert answers:

Call Goodwill or Salvation Army. They will haul it away for free.

Chris asks…

Would you go to an electronics junkyard?

An electronics junkyard would be like a car junkyard where you can remove parts from discarded computers or other electronics, or even just take the whole thing. It would be a step in reducing E-Waste before industrial recycling methods are employed.

Would you pay an entrance fee, whereupon you could then take anything you wanted for free? What do you think would be a fair price to pay?

What would you look for in an electronics junkyard? Do you think it’s worth your time and effort to reuse components rather than buying them new?

The Expert answers:

No. Technology is updated so fast that anything in your “electronics junkyard” would be so obsolete it that it would be useless.

Michael asks…

Where is a good place to recycle/sell my broken SLR lens?

Recently, my Nikkor 55-200 lens stopped working properly. The focus motor quit working, so it’ll only take photos if it’s in manual focus. I bought a replacement lens because it was cheaper than actually getting it fixed. Personally, instead of throwing it out, I want to recycle it or sell it for it to be refurbished and re-sold. (Like how newegg.com sells refurbished electronics)

The Expert answers:

Buy My Tronics is one option:
http://www.buymytronics.com/Camera-Lenses/Nikon/Nikon-Nikkor-50mm-1-1point8-MF-Lens

You can also check Nikon’s Web page to see if they have a product recycling program.

Robert asks…

How do I know what I can recycle out of the everyday items I buy.?

Food products, electronics, and so on.

The Expert answers:

Another good resource is your local County website – they typically post a document with pictures showing what can and cannot be recycled for businesses & residences. Your trash hauler may also be a good resource.

Donald asks…

Is Gazelle.com a reliable site to sell used electronics?

It’s a site that buys your old electronics and says that they recycle them in efforts to go green. So do you think its a reliable site to give your stuff to? If not then whats a better option? Im trying to sell my ipod touch.

The Expert answers:

Sell it on Ebay WAY more money.,…..

Richard asks…

Website that gives money for electronics?

I saw a commercial a couple days ago on MTV and it was an ad for a website that gives you money for your old electronics like Xbox’s and iPods and phones ect. and then they recycle them to make new. What is this website called? Thanks

The Expert answers:

I don’t know the name of that specific organization but there are many that provide cash for recyclable electronics. Here is a link to an article on Yahoo called “How to turn your electronics into cash” that has tips for you on checking out a recycling program/company and companies that do this sort of thing. William asks…

Name a Good Non-Gigabyte Motherboard for My First Computer Build?

I need a motherboard that can support SATA, 2GB DDR2 667 DIMM RAM, an XFX GeForce 9600 GT video card, and Windows Vista Home Premium. The computer I’m building must be able to run Portal and Spore smoothly, have at least 2 PCI-Express slots (and a couple PCI slots), support an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 processor, and be as CHEAP and STABLE as possible.

This is my first build, I’m doing it to save money (I am recycling some of the newer parts from my current computer), and I need it to work the first time so my dad won’t mock me mercilessly for wasting time and money.
We had a Gigabyte motherboard once, and it gave us a lot of problems and failed after a few months. Someone else here on Answers has said that he has had bad luck with them too. I was told that it’s just a cheap Chinese brand, and I want to make sure I get something that won’t die on me.

The Expert answers:

Why non-Gigabyte? They are all I use…Gigabyte or Shuttle Barebones on all my machines.

Can’t help you, because Gigabyte makes the best boards for beginners and advanced builders.

I don’t work for Gigabyte either.

Robert asks…

styraphome and plastics?

I live in the country and burn styraphome and plastics.
I burn it because I don’t want to take up room in the landfills and polute the ground water. I don’t like to recycle because it is a waste of time and effort. It’s easier just to burn styraphome and plastics just to get rid of it, then and there. Why have it sit in the landfills for 2000 yrs? I have been telling others to do the same as me due to the landfill situations. We are running out of room for building houses! I also created a mini-bookets to encourge people to “Burn, not Build up trash” My question is this. When I see the black smoke go in the air, where does it go? I don’t see it land back on the ground.

The Expert answers:

The ozone has been getting better… You can sleep easy.

Steven asks…

Which of the following is not an advantage associated with recycling?

A) extension of available mineral resources
B) reduces energy consumption
C) saves unspoiled land from mining impact
D) the concentration of the most mineral resources
E) reduces the amount of solid waste requiring disposal,

A manufacturing system based on minimizing waste by industry is called?

A. recycling B. reuse C. dematerialization

D. mineral substitution E. sustainable manufacturing.

Thanks for the help I have asked a lot today here but just with the questions I really didn’t understand thanks again to those who actually have helped me and have taken their time thank you so much.

The Expert answers:

If you are really savy you can argue that B is not an advantage. It would shock people to find out how much energy it takes to recycle (transportation and melting down and chemicals used to get rid of contaminants) About the only item that is recycled on a wide scale bases that is efficient to recycle is aluminum. But the greenies don’t want to hear about it.

My guess is D the answer the teacher wants. D doesn’t make sense.
———-
I know what sustainable facilities are – buildings that are built to utilize ‘green’ energy and enviro friendly construction materials. I would assume the same applies to manufacturing. I would say E is the right answer.

Daniel asks…

Are mailing labels (from charities) recyclable?

Anyone who gives to a couple of charities knows what I’m talkin about. I get mailing labels from tons of organizations and would like to dump them in my paper recycling, but I don’t know if they’re recyclable. So I waste my time opening the envelope and throwing the labels away while putting the rest in the paper recycling bag.

The Expert answers:

No

Jenny asks…

Do you waste water, gas, and electricity?

I am very wasteful. I leave all of my lights, tvs, radios, and computers on 24 hours a day. I leave the water running while shaving, brushing my teeth, and washing dishes. I stay in the shower until all of the hot water is cold. I litter all of the time. I never recycle anything. What do you think of me?

The Expert answers:

I Think Your The Same As Me x)

Joseph asks…

what do you do with household waste?

A lot of people throw away food every minute and waste it, and half that that food is perfect. The biggest concern is plastic bags because they take along time to break down. The landfill sites are getting bigger and bigger over the last years and are polluting the environments. People are given red boxes for plastic, green boxes for cans, brown bins for cardboard, recycling for paper and green bins for waste. A lot of these recycled products would be useful for making every day products like news papers and books.

The Expert answers:

All our waste is recycled…………………..

Lizzie asks…

Is there any way to recycle pens?

The plastic in the pen is what I’m thinking of. I’m an artist and use a lot of pens. Many pens don’t say what kind of plastic they are, or if they’re toxic because of the ink. Am I wasting my time?

The Expert answers:

As far as I know you can’t recycle pens. You can reduce waste by purchasing refillable pens instead. You can also look for brands that are made with recycled content.

Charles asks…

Global Warming?

Global warming is said to be a huge problem in the world today, If you look around there is proof. The polar ice caps melting, and huge wholes in the ozone layer. Why is it people are saying it isn’t real? Is it because some people want to be lazy and not recycle? Or ride there bikes to the store instead of the luxury of riding in a car burning up gasoline? Do they not want to wake up and realize how much of an issue this is? Anyway and if noone does anything to stop it….what will happen 20 years from now?

What are your thoughts on global warming?

Explain why do you think it’s fake and isn’t real?
or
Explain why do you think it is real?

** I know I am going to get scolded big time by alot of people on here…so if you are just going to send hate answers or hate mail, I will not answer back..so you are wasting time**
Oh and also…if these vehicle companys are trying to be green and make environment safe vehicles like hybrids….Why are they over pricing them? A hybrid 2007 Ford F-l50 and A 2007 Silverado is almost $5,000-$10,000 more than a regular non-fuel efficient one. Why is that? wouldn’t you think they would make them cheaper to help with the enironment if they were truly worried.
crknapp79… Um, I don’t recall stating anything about land being swallowed by water…so don’t say “what grad are you in?” because you just made yourself look really dumb considering i said nothing on that subject.

The Expert answers:

Only about 20% of Americans think global warming isn’t happening. Those are the Americans most out of touch with reality.

There’s another relatively small percentage of people who think that humans aren’t causing global warming. Most of them are uninformed or misinformed on the issue, and only believe this is the case because they want it to be true, so they accept the misinformation without question.

My thought is that the current global warming is primarily caused by humans, as illustrated in this climate model plot:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png

The evidence that humans are the primary cause is overwhelming, and most climate science experts agree on this.

If we take no action, in 20 years we’ll be starting to see some of the worst effects take hold. Droughts, heat waves, water shortages, coral reefs dying, etc. Etc.
