Your Questions About Recycling

Chris asks…
I need help with this really difficult problem?
I need help getting china, america, and the uk to form a pact to disarm their nuclear arsenal and use the radioactive resource for nuclear power to begin construction of electromagnetic rails guns for compete space based recycling of consumed products.
So that our economic system has a more visceral waste management system, and so that jobs can be generated, and also so that our true calling as humans can become a realization instead of a carrot used to prompt us to war.
Got any grant suggestions that don’t require an online course?
The Expert answers:
Given that you mention specifics, my dream has long been a unified, global economy, but too, in that regard a walk across China can be very long, measured in miles and time.
What we have wrought, will be dissolved or expelled. Evolution has not always been gifts given without greed taking back in the same sense.
So where are we now, with the loss of sense, thinking angry, our best defense? Our footfalls will be imprinted in fossilized stone, when nature recaptures, transmutes the world again as virginal, freshly grown.

I need help recycling in Houston!?
I want to recycle as much as I can, including glass bottles, of different colors. I’m in Clear Lake City, TX area, but they said they consider glass a hazardous waste. I call the city of houston, they give me waste management, but it’s a never ending cycle, no one gives me a straight answer where I can recycle glass. Please help, I want to go green as much as possible. I’ve even switched to cloth diapers for my baby. 🙂
PS The websites give me disconnected numbers, store numbers, but no answers to glass.
The Expert answers:
Houston has Neighborhood Drop-Off Sites that will take glass containers (but not plate glass because of the materials added to the plate glass)
Neighborhood Drop-Off Sites
Another alternative for neighborhoods without curbside recycling are neighborhood drop-off sites.
Items accepted at the Neighborhood Drop-off Sites and Neighborhood Depositories:
* Newspaper, magazines, office paper
* Glass food & beverage bottles and jars (No ceramics or plate glass!)
* Plastic bottles & jugs (marked #1 & #2 only!)
* Aluminum and tin food cans
* Cardboard boxes (Must be broken down with packing materials removed.)
You can learn more about their recycling programs at this website:

The Expert answers:
If you’re looking for some of the resources and issues, check out your local volunteer center for some resources. Since they match community groups and people with projects dealing with the issues, they have vast resources about these specific issues and how people, companies, and groups get involved to make a difference:
Here are some links to help you get started:
http://www.handsonnetwork.org/vca/citizen-academy/
http://www.volunteerresource.org
Several companies have seen the need within our local communities, and have provided support surrounding specific issues, like the environment. Wal-Mart is known to give back to the community, but there are so many other corporations that do this as well. Check out the different volunteer centers in your area to see who the sponsors are:

These companies are also great resources for you to begin your research.
Good luck with your assignment.

Environmental Science Questions?
I have a question about environmental science…….
1. A good example of source reduction would be:
A: Burning old tires to create usable energy.
B: Finding uses for discarded computers.
C: The lighter weight of aluminum cans as opposed to years ago.
D: Installing air pollution control devices in incinerators.
E: Increasing the percentage of paper, glass, and aluminum that is
recycled in the U.S.
In my book it says the source reduction is a strategy where industries can often design and manufacture their products in ways that decrease the volume of solid waste and the amount of hazardous materials in the solid waste stream.
It also says that it is the most underutilized aspect of waste management and that it is accomplished in a variety of ways, such as substituting raw materials that introduce less waste during the manufacturing process and recycling and reusing wastes at the plants where they are generated.
I just don’t comprehend the question. I don’t think the answer is B or D but correct me if I’m wrong. Can you please give me a detailed explanation of the answer as well.
Thank You So Much
B doesn’t make since. Because the definition of source reduction states that it is all about reducing waste at the source of the product when it is made. Not after it has already been made.
The Expert answers:
B finding uses of a discarded computer.
Since, today computers are being used extensively in every field its better to find the uses for them and computers are being discarded heavyly.
Helen asks…
When you delete something from your computer, where does it go?
I understand that there’s questions about this already. I’ve read through some of them but I still don’t quite get it. LOL, like…when you delete something in Windows, for example, it goes into the Recycling Bin. If you PERMANENTLY delete it, where does it GO?
Does it go into some Cyber Waste Management or vanish into air or does it just stay in your hard-drive and take up little pieces of space?
The Expert answers:
It stays in your computer, but gets written over.
Think of it like a tape recorder. If you tape something on it, then go to tape again, it will bring you to the available (empty) place. Then if you want to delete something, you actually record “NOTHING’ over the spot. So it becomes blank and empty.
This is how computer forensics can still find things on a computer that you think are deleted. If the place it was stored is not written over again, they can still retrieve it.
As a user, we dont get to put the stuff in a certain place, the computer does that.

There are hundreds of links to the regulations that apply to business and industry.
Env Regs: RCRA, CWA, CAA
The cost: Start at approx $5,000 per permit. How many permits required depend on the industry and business. This cost can easily hit $100K per year in the blink of an eye for a plant with 300-500 employees.
If the business is a RCRA generator (a photography developer), then they will have to comply with all RCRA laws. It is not an easy process. An auto body repair shop will have RCRA and air permits (if they have a paint booth).
An industry will have to comply with Title V air permits if they are a huge discharger (much more than $5K per year).
New Problems: Industrial Hygiene in the work space (mold).
New Jobs: Environmental Coordinator or consultant for industry.
Industry trends: Looks like there will be a push to reduce emissions to air. Other trends include waste minimization.
Your best advice should be to hire a QUALIFIED professional environmental consultant to perform an environmental audit of your business to see what you lack.

You could talk about the cost to auto makers with regard to California’s zero-emission regulations, which I believe George W. Ended up scratching. I’m no expert on the subject, but it should be fairly easy to google.
