Is it illegal to take aluminum cans to California from arizona?

Is it illegal to take aluminum cans to California basically importtyem my uncle has a recycling business but they buy it here for like $1.20 lbs and in Cali it’s like$3.50 so is it illegal or where can I call and ask
So I made some phone calls to California and they said it is illegal to claim the deposit for the cans that were issued out of California and it’s legal to bring in cans from out of states will the recycling business buy they is soly up to them because they would loose money since they’re worth less for example we buy them Here for 1.20 and in Cali 1.80 so they loose 60 cents per pund but my uncle is still going to try with his own risk

The Expert answers:

It’s illegal to take Arizona cans to California and claim California deposit reimbursement.

It’s not illegal to take Arizona cans to California and claim regular scrap value reimbursement, which is signigicantly less than $3.50.

Every once in a while you’ll hear of some people who have been arrested for bringing out of state cans to California:

I am a resident of LA, and I broke up a patio made of concrete. Now I have chunks of concrete about a foot around. I was going to take the chunks to the dump, but it just seems to heavy to go to a landfill dump and It might got to expensive. Someone suggested I recycle the pieces of cement. I just don’t know where to take them. If anybody knows where I can atake the pieces of concrete, I’d appreciate it.

The Expert answers:

Here’s some info. On recycling of concrete. I also listed info. Of an L.A. – based concrete specialist that could advise you.

Ruth asks…

Recycling for money!?

I know they pay for aluminum cans, but will recycling centers pay for any other materials (plastic, paper, etc)? My cousin told me they buy tin, but only like a few cents a ton so its not worth it.

I have also heard of places that will buy used clothing–and I don’t mean consignment shops or those ones that buy kids or name brand clothing only… Does anyone know anything about that?

Thanks! I’m trying to make some quick money. My uncle just made almost 400 dollars selling aluminum cans and I already have a few bags full. LOL!

The Expert answers:

There are also places that will pay you for plastic water bottles and plastic soda bottles. (at least in California!!)

Also metals can be recycled but there is a big problem because of that with some metal objects being stolen!

Good luck!

Robert asks…

CRV? (California Refund Value)?

Where do I take my recycles to?
What can I recycle? (Cardboard? Paper? Plastic? Glass? Or what?)

The Expert answers:

CRV means California redemption value. Any thing you buy that is marked CA CRV you will get paid money for returning them to a recycling center. These can be found in your local phone book under Recycling . Most of the CRV are things like soda bottles beer bottles or cans and some plastic drink containers. This is because when you buy them you are charged a few cents per CRV item, so you are really just getting back what you paid. Other things can be recycled such as plastic, paper, and glass not marked CRV at a recycle center marked for these kinds of recycling items. Sometimes you can recycle them at the same center other times not. What ever your reason is for recycling, its great for the environment and I have been doing it for years. You can get more info about all that can be recycled from the recycling center itself. The people are very helpful.
